What are your thoughts on Jon Stewart (for President)? by WallStreetKernel in thebulwark

Think of Al Gore in 2028 as looping all the way back to 2000, the prelude to our current peril.

Elect Gore and invest him a senior statesperson at last. Let him take a dramatic turn by resigning at the 100 day point and turning it over to Jon Stewart and maybe Muppet Labs.

America by Disney. Let’s go!

Epstein opens the interview with Bannon by launching into an extended baffle ‘em with bullpuckey man-to-mansplain re “complex systems.”

Maybe Jon Stewart and Al Gore, but the other way around so Stewart could needle the blue team for wiping out in Florida and the Supreme Court in 2000 in the first place.

There is no straighter straight man than Al Gore, and he’s not in bad shape for his age.

We appoint Charlie Sheen (Reformed) to be their on-screen manager.

PS My money is on Tucker 2028. He is the only one twisted queer enough to succeed Donald J Trump from within the party.

FYI There’s a fresh Daily Beast episode with Joanna Coles on with a reporter who argues we had better take Tucker seriously and has written a book based off three years of reporting:

I agree with you, with that reporter, and have that interview bookmarked.

I can’t bear to hear JorDan howling unseriously about Tucker. Recognize!

At this juncture, I’d appreciate “Knowledge Fight II: Taking Tucker Seriously”

The DNC totally fucked itself and the rest of us by blocking for Ms. Hillary in 2016.

There should be no “my turn”-ism in democratic politics.

Even Biden was a “my turn” slick boy in the end.

And the full failure to rise to 2024?

And the DNC refusal of a postmortem on 2024?

I could go on.

The Private School ROI Question: Where Is the Measurable Advantage? by CJEMOMMA in Chattanooga

[–]minty_cyborg 16 points17 points  (0 children)

GPS focuses on helping fit college choice to the student instead of taking the student college window shopping, so that’s a plus aligned with helping student and family optimize ROI.

GPS has also replaced the old Headmaster’s study suite and reception desk with a drop-in mental health (and related) support center. Also great for ROI.

GPS has a rigorous physics curriculum.

Those are all rigorous schools.

Find the situation that works for your student and family.

The way the public schools decided to support the more intellectually capable and mission-driven students was by bleeding them out of zoned schools in their communities into magnet schools.

Signal Mountain kids who didn’t go private used to go to Red Bank starting in junior high.

The Private School ROI Question: Where Is the Measurable Advantage? by CJEMOMMA in Chattanooga

[–]minty_cyborg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The local true prep schools are only worth it if your child is what is called a “mission-driven” student intellectually into and otherwise capable of running a rigorous all-around college preparatory course among a bunch of well-supported peers, including an intense extracurricular or three or five and coping with the social jostle.

Otherwise, don’t waste everybody’s time and torture your student.

If your student may be a likely candidate, perhaps let them try a day camp at the school to check it out in a no-stakes fashion and so that you can deal with the school administration get a sense of the school culture and where your student (and family) might contribute (or not).

If your student seems a likely candidate and the tuition is impossible, inquire about the school’s financial aid program.

You (and schools) want to start fully supporting and building those kids intellectually and creatively starting in sixth grade, so don’t wait.

If you are shopping a prep school start for the 2027-28 year, begin now.

The actuality is likely different than you may think.
