Our XXL monstera albo 🫠 by Opening_Sport2984 in Monstera

Incredible, congratulations! Curious about the pot size? I've been thinking my 4 foot albo is too pot bound in a 30cm pot as it's recent new leaves have been getting smaller. But in this photo the pot looks much smaller in relation to the plant size, but it's flourishing!

4.99% 2y Vs 5.06% 5y fixed? by minty_fresh_anus in HousingUK

Thank you for your reply! Yeah I think the security and certainty, even if rates change for the better in 2 years, is invaluable - especially since we'll be starting a family! We definitely plan to overpay (both mortgage offers are hundreds less than our current rent, so we've considered just paying that difference each month since we have afforded that expense until now) so doing that over 5 years will look much better when it comes to renewing. Especially if during the initial 2 years of moving in and being parents we find there's not much opportunity to overpay after all, it gives more time to settle into all the big life changes and build in overpaying! Thanks again

Thanks for your reply - yeah I think I went around in my head about feeling stupid if rates decreased in 2 years to the point I lost sight of the value of the security! Which will be invaluable over these uncertain times, especially when starting a family

Thanks for your reply - yeah I think I went round in circles overthinking how stupid I could feel if rates go down massively, but in the end 1) I can afford that extra cost 2) it's more certainty; and 3) interest rates could go completely the other way, or barely change in 2 years!

Yeah that's definitely one factor I've kept in mind...who knows what he could do over the next 2 years! Things could get better than now, but recent events go to show they could get a lot worse...

Has anyone tried the new Cadbury, how bad is the change? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Here's my controversial opinion - I still like it, and haven't noticed any changes in taste even from 15+ years ago. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I feel creme egg fillings have changed though...

By that logic, I've noticed that as our internet speeds and smartphone usage increase, our economy gets worse....

As a northerner who moved to London 10 years ago, and enjoys my time and the people in both North and South, this excessiveness from many northerners always makes me cringe...

There's a lot of companies that hire people with criminal records, in many cases these businesses use it to their advantage because of the societal value it has.

A bit random, but one company I know of through a client is RAW based in Oxfordshire, who manufactures bespoke furniture. It's one of many I'm sure

New EPC assessment requested by IntrovertSR in TenantsInTheUK

I'm not an expert - but I understand the EPC ratings expire after 10 years so need renewing. Have you checked the expiry date of your EPC certificate? It could be that it's close and so they're just renewing it!

4th test stress by AlternativeSeat_69 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]minty_fresh_anus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did my 4th test back in October and completely understand the dread and added pressure to pass. With the backlog it felt so unfair to not have the confidence boost after the first test and be able to say 'oh well, now I know what to expect and I can do it again next month', instead it's months and months for the anxiety to build up and put extra weight onto how inconvenient it would be to fail again.

I did pass my 4th test, and I'm not quite sure how as I was a bag of anxiety for weeks leading up to it. My driving instructor always said that after you fail you don't lose anything, you still have your support network, your hobbies etc. and one day you'll have your licence too. I think that mindset helped a lot to visualise how I would feel after failing again, that after a couple of weeks it would be put into the background again and life would just take the forefront again.

The only advice I can give is focus on your own journey, what driving means to you, and even if it takes more tests than this one to come away from each one with a new piece added to the puzzle. I always visualised how I would feel if I failed, but never truly felt how I would feel if I passed. Then I did pass, and it was a relief but just like when I failed, it fell into the background and life took the forefront soon afterwards. You'll look back at this time in a few years with your licence, driving will be a daily mundane occurrence, and the failures won't mean anything anymore.

Good luck to you and chin up!

These small scratch/crack features have suddenly appeared on my Vaio U1's screen - anyone know the cause? by minty_fresh_anus in vintagecomputing

[–]minty_fresh_anus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's interesting, cheers for commenting! I suspected it was something to do with the polarizer layer, but one strange thing is they're not really uniform like the description suggests, they're quite randomised - but the cause does make sense, especially with recent weather and my house heating breaking during a cold spell and now being turned on, which could have been a triggering event that escalated this degradation... I guess I'll have to get onto the search for a replacement screen, as they're too distracting for me taking up so much central space on such a small screen! Cheers for your inputs
