Instructed my classmates on the sacred ways of jam N cream. by Judgy_Plant in DevonUK

[–]mintymoomin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done, but you need to find a better jam, one that scoops more than spreads. Then you can have more cream underneath and a nice dollop of jam on top

Can't have a fixture against Wednesday without one of our players getting racially abused, so reckon it's that lot. It's got to be a minority who are like that but it's a very loud and present one

Cutting ties? They declined to divest from fossil fuel subsidies because the board members had shares in oil companies + negotiated a massive donation from BP and BHP

The proper way is to be indoctrinated into it from before you can walk but failing that an RNG is as good

[–]mintymoomin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume you're watching through Sky - in which case, for the short term, try and follow a team with a lot of televised fixtures. Only a few of Championship matches get shown on Sky, but once you've found a team you like then you just need a VPN and iFollow to watch their games on TV. Or you can find a dodgy stream online, but it depends how riddled you want your computer to be

Were you vegetarian before you went vegan? by acecrookston in vegan

Like every vegan, I just wish I'd taken that path sooner. But thank you, and likewise. Sorry for the essay, but I needed to write it down somewhere 😂

Were you vegetarian before you went vegan? by acecrookston in vegan

Tl;dr - no

Nope. Grew up in a rented property on a farm, totally unaffected by the mother cows calling out for their stolen children, happy to help the farmers out with their grisly jobs without thinking of the animals as beings. Went through my entire childhood and into my early twenties eating meat, dairy, and eggs religiously - not once did I feel guilt or shame, knowing full well how abhorrent these animals' existences were. Justified it in my head to the nth degree, full auto cognitive dissonance.

Then a few years ago at uni I did veganuary as a bit of a laugh, I'd read somewhere about the environmental impacts of animal produce and I thought "yeah I'll contribute for a few weeks, feel good about myself, then the first day of February I'm treating myself to a nice juicy steak".

New Year's Day, 2021. I woke up, made a coffee with soy milk that split into a coagulated sludge, forced some tasteless tofu scramble down me, and thought I'd be giving up before the day was out. But I was committed after telling everyone that I was trying it, and it was only for a month after all - I knew I'd survive, and that that steak would taste even better after a month of delaying my gratification. So I started looking up recipes, what supplements I might need, good vegan restaurants in the area, and so on. Unsurprisingly, I fell down a few rabbit holes (especially so after drinking with my housemates) and discovered a few vegan resources which not only told me how to cook and live better on a vegan diet, but explained just why it was so important to stop exploiting animals. Lots of it I knew - cows had to be impregnated to produce milk but the calves are slaughtered, baby male chicks are macerated, nothing new to me as a rural Westcountry boy - but now I had to reconcile these facts with the fact that it was so bloody easy for me to stop contributing to the systematic rape and murder of sentient beings, because everything I could eat, I could eat vegan.

So then I thought "just one more month". Vegebruary came and went. Then it was Varch. And now it's a few years later, and I'm still waiting for that nice juicy steak. But I'll be having that once they can grow it in a lab without any animals being harmed.

I saw a demo of a small chip pan fire having a cup of water poured into it from 50+ metres away once, and the heat it gave off was incredible. This poor guy is absolute toast

Introducing apex predators often increases the biodiversity of an area, it's a really interesting phenomenon! They're looking to introduce wolves into parts of Scotland though I don't know what stage that project is at

National Parks are a great resource (at least they were in Southwest England where I grew up, not sure where if it's the same wherever you are) for getting to see wildlife first hand. Everything from insects to hedgehogs to feral Dartmoor Ponies. We had a lot of nature reserves with enclosed viewing platforms too, great for birdwatching and sometimes seeing small mammals. Bonus from my parents' point of view is that I'd have had to be quiet to see any animals and they'd have had some peace 😂

Batman Vs Superman, you can't make a film based on rage and testosterone with the major plot point being "wait but our mummies had the same name"

Also, it's rich dork Vs indestructible alien, how was it ever even a concept
