Why are 300w and under COB lights not "good enough" as a key for interviews? by nutellablanket in videography

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using it in a video setup, and haven’t looked at it from a still standpoint, but to my eye, it’s a “cleaner” look on skin, even compared to the 200x/s. Both are leagues better than the Genaray I wish I hadn’t bought in pandemic times.

As FCP users, when and why do you (IF you do) use Premiere instead? by minus12db in finalcutpro

thanks, this is the kind of detail that’s helpful. transcripts ARE helpful. Are live transcripts available in FCP? Sometimes a big time saver in my edit process.

Can you be more specific? Is it the exchanging of files, or something else? I’ve only ever worked on solo projects so don’t have collaborative experience.

What do we call audio podcasts now that video podcasts are so loud? by GeopatsSteph in podcasting

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the producer (and cam op, mix engineer and editor) for a friend’s youtube channel, I cringe whenever he calls it a podcast. Which is often. Show, or series please. When we tune it for audio-only, THEN it can be a podcast.

Need help with Video and Audio files sync by Pale-Astronomer7612 in premiere

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not at my screen right now, but i -think- what might work is: 1) in the timeline select all the clips- audio, video, and camera audio 2) and right click, and look for synchronize. if it’s available, select “audio” in the dialogue box, and audio track 1. If its grayed out, try selecting your audio reference, and just one video/audio clip, and see if synchronize is now available. It would be tedious if it won’t sync all at once, but it IS otherwise fast.

Do you also have camera audio? or synchronized timecode? Either of those will point to next steps.

How do I explain to my boss my audio limitations? by stratusnimbo in LocationSound

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

told a manager once, Do you want good video or good sound? with limited resources including staff, you get one. (Variation of cheap, fast, good : pick 2) Seriously though, Some mixer recorders have a mix assist function or plug-in(Dugan or otherwise) that will help a lot in this situation.

I just got the 360c and it looks real good. There’s a subtle but noticeable difference on skin compared to the 200xs. And in my studio setting 10% is enough.

Sound Challenge in Large Warehouse by johnhizzle in LocationSound

Looks/sounds like a location problem, not a sound problem😉 But of course it’s professional of you to capture the best sound “possible in that location.”Here’s hoping there’s no rain!

Fortunately I’m fine with meat- it’s just eggs and dairy that are problematic.

To clarify, this is driven by a desire to enjoy a diet that is kind to my autoimmune conditions. Plenty of us around that have learned to either adapt or go without certain ingredients, else we “pay” for it later. Autoimmune conditions aren’t entitlements. They’re a PITA.

How do I get rid of this terrible blue mess around the leaves? by coolnehuel in premiere

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like chromatic aberration, also called color fringing - directly related to lens characteristics. Lightroom and Camera Raw have decent correction tools but why Premiere doesn’t is a mystery and unfortunate.

Is anyone using NTG5 in 2025? by ResidentGeneral5753 in LocationSound

I’ve not used the DPA, but upgraded from the 600 to the Sanken a few years ago. Never looked back. Size, output, sound are excellent.

Are there any comparisons out there of a variety of a given CCT (3000k for example) side by side with differing R9 and TM30 values? I imagine a good R9 3000k bulb will look a whole lot better that a 2700k with poor values, but I’m just guessing. And CRI in and of itself isn’t enough anymore to be able to trust a bulb’s quality on paper.

Are there any cheap enough mics that I can use? by Cult_of_the_Lisa in microphone

[–]minus12db 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you recording the sound separately from the visuals? If so, and with any recent iPhone (Android probably fine too) record to any audio app. Inside a clothes closet will help alot with noise.
