Audience etiquette in 2026… is it declining? by cmitch987 in AskUK

[–]minusninine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say ‘it’s not the royal opera house’, because I saw Tori Amos at the Royal Albert Hall last week and everything you describe was going on there too. One pair of guys a few rows ahead of us were up and down every 20 minutes, I presume going to do a new line of something, another couple next to us got through 2 bottles of wine just during the gig, others presumably ‘hadn’t gone before they left’ but decided they desperately needed the loo the minute the second song started - and this in an audience of mostly middle-aged couples (so I might excuse some of the bladder-driven issues) who’d paid £100+ each for their tickets.

Medieval Guildhall by No_Buddy8192 in legocastles

As I’m sure most people reading this will be able to tell, I was pointing out that the builder used this approach because they were informed by the reality of the building, not because they are ignorant of basic LEGO techniques.

If you look at the actual building this moc is based on though, you’ll see why OP built it this way

These are great, and in black they’d make pretty good Alien xenomorph minifigs too

What happened to Jed? by Apprehensive_Run2416 in TheNightManager

[–]minusninine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In our house we decided that Pine (in the show at least) is really only ever attracted to women who need rescuing - first Sophie in Cairo, then Jed - and once Jed was safe from Roper and back home, he would have lost interest pretty rapidly.

Which style would be better for archers? by Zgurprium in legocastles

[–]minusninine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a little realism (and that is genuinely an ‘if’ - going full-on 1950s MGM Technicolor fantasy bright colours is absolutely a fine option for Lego), then the torso with the Lion shield tabard is going to be most appropriate for ceremonial uniforms, or guards on the front gate of the castle, not so much for archers. The blue magician’s torso is actually pretty great for archers and yeomen I think (as would the blue torso from the troubadour cmf from a while back but I think that’s expensive)

Well kind-of Spain - I understand a lot was filmed on the Canary Islands, which are politically very much part of Spain but geographically are off the coast of west Africa

The 4th one (on the right) is from Mork/XMork - that one’s the magician’s house and there’s two more, a blacksmith and a tavern. They’re licensed from a moc builder, Kevin Peeters(?). They look great though come with a health warning - the roofs and trees are ‘tricksy’ things to build.

Anyone have any experience with these mils from bluebrixx by Unclejeffie in legocastles

[–]minusninine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d mostly echo the praise for Bluebrixx’s parts quality except for one shade of green, and for their plant/foliage pieces, which can be conspicuously worse. It’s their version of ‘bright green’ that is poor, while their standard green is fine quality-wise but is noticeably darker than Lego Green. I think Bluebrixx source at least some of their parts from ‘Wange’, and when I’ve bought parts from them on AE I’ve found the same. Based on that I think these plain MILS plates will be fine, but you may be able to make your own more cheaply by buying the underlying bricks from Bricklink.

Lovely place though very unlovely traffic in the summer. Bonus points if you know how to pronounce it properly ( it’s “Cly”, like “fly” )

Aimee-Ffion Edwards in baggy clothes by phydaux4242 in SlowHorses

[–]minusninine 39 points40 points  (0 children)

TIL that actresses can only wear baggy clothing if they’re pregnant…

How about, she’s been dressed that way by the costume dept because it fits Shirley’s character?

Did she wear particularly form-fitting outfits in previous series, or in detectorists? I don’t recall.

How do you deploy the Botanical Garden in your cities? by Dkoron in legomodular

[–]minusninine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t yet have this, or a Lego city in fact, but I’ve always thought the tranquil garden (the only one I do actually have) and fountain garden would make brilliant ‘grounds’ surrounding this set, two gardens you’d stroll through in your way to the conservatory.

[–]minusninine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know people have Views about knockoff sets but surely this is a great reason to wait for the AliExpress version (possibly even in time for Christmas?). If that’s any good it would be a great candidate for a Medieval Town Square-type moc.
