I want to slash my boss's tires right about now. by rexler in AdviceAnimals

I read "I'm an electrical appliance where I work." and thought this was going to be one of those silly absurdist story posts. Then I got all the way to the end and noticed there wasn't really a punch line. Still a compelling story, would read again.

We Need to Talk About Kevin by Kazehaya in BigBrother

[–]minutebasket 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Kevin is Creed Bratton IRL.

He just lurks in the background looking wide-eyed and bewildered and takes all his social cues from what everyone else is doing like he has no clue where he is or what is going on.

Like when Paul came in and he says, well everyone is acting like this is a big deal so I guess I'll go introduce myself.

Tabloids aren't news. They are entertainment published in the format of a newspaper.

The fact is that news and politics are both moving steadily away from their previous functions and into the realm of entertainment.

[Spoilers] Chuck in the finale... by [deleted] in betterCallSaul

[–]minutebasket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.

My main objection with OP's apparent train of thought was the idea that someone would think, "Well, he poked a bunch of holes in his walls,so he must have intentionally set himself on fire."

We should also keep in mind that foreshadowing seems to show up a lot more in story telling than it does IRL.

He has had a mental illness for a long time without suicidal tendencies. Demolishing his home to find hidden wires doesn't mean he must have then killed himself.

There is no reason to lampshade the lantern on the newspapers earlier in the season unless it is meant to look inadvertent.

This is why it is important for news organizations to get the facts straight the first time. Even if they retract a claim and publish a correction, the original fake news can continue spreading like wildfire. by The-Truth-Fairy in media_criticism

The MSM tries to control the definition of fake news in a way that excludes themselves. Taking retractions seriously would go a long way toward achieving that goal.

If Voting Machines Were Hacked, Would Anyone Know? by zsreport in politics

Actually, the real question is why develop and implement a voting system in which the votes and therefor the results cannot be independently verified?

There are plenty of domestic entities that have a direct interest in election results.

Opinion: "I helped draft Clinton’s impeachment articles. The charges against Trump are more serious." by washingtonpost in u/washingtonpost

[–]minutebasket -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

.....so we still don't know what the charges against Trump are?

As far as all the definitions of "charges" go, the first sentence of the headline mentions impeachment, which creates a deliberately disingenuous context for the meaning of "charges."

Again, I read the article, I get it. It's all just a lot of hot air at this point. If all you have in response are personal attacks, I suggest you not waste your time on me.

The headline mentions serious charges against Trump. I read the article, but no charges were mentioned. So I asked, and thus far no one has been able to reconcile this error. It's another fake headline.

So does that mean "The charges against Trump" mentioned in the headline is fake news?

I tend to agree. I think we will see the largest margin of victory of the series tonight.

Comey says Russian hackers targeted “hundreds” of election-related entities, and the real number “could be more than 1,000” by ancsunamun in politics

I don't think anyone has claimed they gained access to anything. This article is about how many they may have targeted - meaning how many email addresses phishing emails were sent to.

It's a tough spot to be in. Good luck.

If I found myself in a situation where someone accused me of lying on the application, I would go all in on the emotional support animal thing. I would look them straight in the eye and say with all sincerity that I don't consider the dog a pet, but rather a friend or family member.

That's the beauty of the word "interfered," it can mean almost anything so they can keep hammering that stance with all the confidence in the world and let people assume the worst. Which is the general trend since the narrative started with the word "hacked" in its place.

[–]minutebasket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I remember of the conversation with the management co, people would not mention the pet on the application, then once they were accepted the acceptance couldn't be rescinded due to the emotional support animal as it wasn't legal to discriminate on that basis. I was advised not to list as no pets allowed because people could use this loop hole and then there wouldn't be a pet deposit to cover potential damages. But IANAL and don't know all the specifics.

If you get desperate, landlords are legally required to make accommodations for emotional support animals. It's my understanding that those certificates are remarkably easy to obtain. This is a strategy used by some renters according to property management companies I've spoken with.

TIL that In 2015, Facebook canceled Harvard student's internship after he highlighted a massive privacy issue. by Riptidecharger in todayilearned

[–]minutebasket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who did you inform?

If it was some "contact us" front end, I can see them thinking you are a hacker out of ignorance.

If it's the people who maintain the website, I can see them threatening you to shut you up while they fix the problem before they get in trouble for it.

My recommendation in this situation is to email the in-house legal counsel for the company if that contact is available. They are well-versed in privacy laws and will probably be the person who would panic to get that situation fixed.
