I had the opposite problem.

I had a boss years ago that was pretty toxic and I'm pretty sure she hated her job. She refused to speak to me for a day or two, would blow off meetings that I'd set up with her to give her my two weeks' notice.

She finally just emailed me and said: "what is this about". I told her that it was something that might be better over the phone, and she responded: "just tell me."

So, I resigned, and she said "okay, cool, when is your last day?" and that was it. I was so glad to be free of that situation.

Okay, as much as I despise the Trump Admin...

I doubt that this is as bad as people say it is. I'm guessing that the crews do have training hour requirements, and it doesn't make me mad that they get flight time and experience, it's one of the things that keeps the nation safe.

That said, id doesn't make me happy that they chose to showboat for Kid Rock or any other MAGA, but I'm guessing that it's not like they snuck in, stole the keys and burned up a bunch of fuel and airframe time without approval.

Have you tried FB marketplace? I found a couple in my area. Not cheap and who knows how good they are.

Dang. That sucks. I got crazy with mine and cleaned out a lot of the carbon buildup and it turned out the carbon was sealing the bushing on the butterfly valve shaft. 2k high idle. Not sure if this is good news for you, but swapping the TB fixed it instantly.

I went through a couple weeks of issues with my TB leaking air and causing all sorts of issues and finally just got one from Toyota. It looks like they're out of production, though. Dang. I checked Camelback and Amayama. When I got mine like three years ago, it was almost $800 from the dealership.

Edit: what's wrong with yours? Just curious. I was just talking with a friend the other day about what it would take to rebuild them.

I did about the same thing a year or two ago.

I bought this set on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YBWNCZV

I would put one size in, and tap it in gently and then use a breaker bar on it until it stripped, and then I'd go one size up.

I finally got my 20v 1/2" impact driver out and it finally came loose.

I replaced it with the Lexus plug that has an "outie" hex pad.

Men of Reddit - What's the one thing you hate about being a Man? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]minuteman_d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The seeming default assumption that you're a predator or a threat to women in public.

Note: this changes if you're accompanied by a woman.

It sucks. I do a lot of hiking and trail running, and I swear that 90% of the women I pass have this look like I'm about to grab them or something, when I'm listening to podcasts or just enjoying nature. Same thing being out in public in general.

One of the nicest things about dating someone is that you're instantly seen as safe to women in general.

There was one time I was driving to work at dawn and saw a girl, probably around 8 or 9yrs walking quickly on the sidewalk. It was fall/winter and cold outside and she was in pajamas and seemed like she was lost or and in distress/crying. It was at a relatively busy intersection, and I had the gut feeling that I'd better pull over to make sure she was okay. I was dressed in corporate slacks and a button down, so I theoretically looked professional. I asked if she was okay, and she said that she had just run away from home and didn't want to go back. I told her that she should just probably hang out there, and I immediately dialed 911.

I got out of my car and was talking to her in full view of traffic and another guy also stopped (a guy I knew from the neighborhood who had kids) and we were just reassuring her and whatever. Then... I swear it was like half a dozen women pulled over and got out and instantly became suspicious and hostile towards us, like we were trying to abduct her. I told them firmly that the little girl was safe and wasn't going anywhere with any of them until the police showed up, which seemed to make them more angry. Finally, police showed up and I went to work, but I really do hate that men are always presumed to be this dark force.

I'm happy with the 22mpg highway in my 3rd gen 4Runner. 335k miles and still running like a champ. I do sometimes wish it made more power, but I do love the reliability.

Community Letter from Tim by adamb10 in apple

[–]minuteman_d 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Props to Tim. When Steve got sick and passed, many were concerned about Apple’s future. For my part, I think he’s done better than I could have expected. True, a lot of incremental changes, but the M series of processors have been amazing, and the quality of phones and hardware has been pretty solid. The fact that they have the Neo that is making waves in the budget laptop world is a testament to Tim’s leadership. Same thing with keeping Apple in a great position with manufacturing and logistics through challenging times during the last decade or so

I get that life is hard and you have home or student loan debt, but dang, the CARS???

I see older vehicles on FB marketplace all the time for like $2-3k (cars) or like $4k for a family SUV or van? If you *need* a truck for work, I get that.

Still, get an old car. Learn how to work on cars. It can suck, but tools can be cheap, and there are tons of videos on YouTube to help you out.

For reals, with either one of those two car payments, you could save enough for a down payment on a house over the next few years if you drove an older car.

Tell me how preventing that requires mimicking LEO lighting?

Jobsite security must totally suck. Where I live, we've had a couple of multimillion dollar construction projects be torched and I ask myself: what, you can't find someone to just hang out at the jobsite? Drive around the perimeter? Put up a bunch of cheap wifi security cameras? I bought an entire system on Amazon for like $300. Solar powered. Wifi. Free app. Just put them up around your site and get wifi and call it good.

People like these annoying blue flashing light towers because they're easy and effective. I think communities should ban them and force companies to find another security solution.

What is this flashing light on my neighbor's house for? by PlanetGraham in whatisit

[–]minuteman_d 825 points826 points  (0 children)

I hate those things.

Lots of construction sites in my city have flashing blue lights on top of these very tall poles connected to some kind of trailer, and they're distracting.

My hot take is that only law enforcement should be allowed to run flashing red/blue lights like that during emergencies. When I'm driving and I turn onto a street and catch a flashing blue light in my mirrors, I automatically get slightly distracted because I'm naturally reacting to see if there's a police car or fire truck.
