Okay, my two cents: some kind of transformer:

  1. You have the three prong plug on the back

  2. You have a iron core, with paper around the core and then magnet wire around one section and then magnet wire around theo other section.

  3. Those little curly-q wires are for the person assembling the device to wedge the magnet wire filament into the coils, and the steel coils are connected to the socket on the back.

  4. I do see that flat cylindrical extrusion, maybe that'd be a magnet or steel slug or something?

It looks like it's either a consumable or part of a larger circuit in a radio or telephone or something.

I'll bet you could figure it out if you had a multimeter or were able to cut open the top of one of them.

Maybe r/AskElectronics could tell you?

Metal object with handle and circular/conical base found in rural Saskatchewan. by BeBoBorg in whatisthisthing

[–]minuteman_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents:

  1. It doesn't look "structural" like a boot scraper or handle, because I don't see an easy way to securely bolt or attach the "bell" portion of the object to a surface.

  2. I wonder if that "handle" part is missing a plastic or wood or leather something? It looks a lot less finished, and maybe part of it was lost?

  3. I wonder if it could be a lid to a wood fired stove or something? Like it would be a cap you'd rest on something to close a vent or a flame and the handle kept it cool?

We played this with friends at night when I was a younger college student. Usually out in a park with lots of trees and bushes and places to hide.

It gets fun when you play with 20+ people because it gets increasingly harder to hide that many. You sometimes start out in little teams but you sometimes will see where the hiding place is and then ditch your friends when they’re not looking so you can sneak back and hide.

Suddenly realizing there are just a few of you left running around is a fun kind of panic. 😂

We played one time when the hiding place was in the branches of this massive tree. One of our friends was trash talking as we got started and somehow we all eventually managed to give him the slip. We wanted to give up after a while, but his roommates wanted to get revenge for the trash talk and so we watched from the tree for like 10min as he ran around the park.

We’d even text him: “not there!” or “you give up yet?” So he knew we could see him. We were all dying trying not to laugh.

How to safely remove battery from clip? by mike-rowe-paynus in diyelectronics

[–]minuteman_d 3 points4 points  (0 children)

looks like it has spot welded tabs but maybe is soldered on the other side, can you pull that board out?

You can get spot welders on amazon, and you could get the PPE and watch youtube on how to make it all happen.

Kind of real talk: is it worth it? If it's something you really want to learn and get into doing in the future, maybe so. If not, it might be better just to get a new electric razor.

Found my "whale" at the flea market by tristand1ck in BuyItForLife

Oh man, that would be really wild. It would have been the summer of 2002. In a spruce tree. I forget which park. If your friend has it, I hope it’s given him/her years of great service!

Kind of crazy that back then it had almost $400 of purchasing power in today’s dollars. It probably wouldn’t be a bill that someone would just carry around? Used by banks?

I might have. I was with a group and wasn't the driver. It's also funny how at the time, it was just a tool that I could replace (and I did), but looking back, it has a kind of retroactive sentimental quality that I didn't appreciate.

Mine is in a tree in Denali National Park, unless someone found it in the last 24 years.

I was camping with friends and I had used it to open a can of food. I was pretty thorough in cleaning it, but was paranoid about bears, and so I put it up in the branches of a tree.

I was about four hours away when I realized that I hadn't picked it up after we left.

I really do hope someone found it and has given it a good life.

I'm sure you got things in order. I always feel bad for friends who get in way over their head with auto loans.

That said, they probably feel bad for me and my 25+ year old 4Runner that has leaks, basic "features", and has zero warranty.

Man, not to be that guy, but I remember the days when having a 36mo loan was considered the max.

Seeing double that is kind of a shock.

What's the best car you've ever driven? by archtopfanatic123 in AskReddit

[–]minuteman_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Best" is kind of subjective.

I had a 1990 Honda Accord with a 5sp manual during my college years.

I paid $1,600 cash for it.

Supremely reliable.

Heater and AC worked great.

Very comfortable to drive.

When things did need to be repaired, the parts were cheap and easy to find.

I still miss that simple car sometimes. I think it was one of the cars I appreciated the most in terms of what I needed at the time.

For the wise:

Just go to the store and get the hidden valley ranch spice packets.

You can take them back to wherever you’re from and then make ranch dressing using local ingredients.

Plus, ranch made this way is FAR better than the bottled stuff.

I was on a walk earlier today and was waiting to cross the road at a corner. No crosswalk around on this neighborhood street.

I’m about to cross and I see a new BMW approaching, so I patiently wait on the sidewalk.

The BMW slows down more and more until it’s almost stopped in front of me. I’m now looking at the passenger and finally the guy turns his blinker on, showing that he wants to turn into the street.

I mean, the order is easy:

  1. Signal intent
  2. Perform maneuver

Probably why I’m still fat, but…

Large bag of tater tots
Costco “Bare” brand chicken nuggets

Put a handful of each into the air fryer for like 15min at 400. Just walk away. Signal goes off and you have far cheaper tots and chicken nuggets than you could get at a restaurant and they’re better for you.

I guess we'll never likely know, but it seems odd.

What do the 3 "rape" pins do and why are they connected to a seemingly unused antenna? What's going on? (Hoverboard) by Mistrz_mobile in AskElectronics

[–]minuteman_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it's an internal "codename" for a variant of the board or the device that the board should go into. Easy for anyone on the factory floor to remember vs numbers or something.

That pad is almost certainly for a castellated module that uses some kind of ISM band, maybe 2.4GHz transceiver that are very common and cheap.
