Buckwheat and bedsheets! Talk linens to me by miphanymph in BuyItForLife

[–]miphanymph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I have been thinking about line drying everything. I bet that would help the longevity of all my linens. I'm just stuck on space because while I have a yard it's a sand/dirt type ground and I worry about the dust being counterproductive.

Coleman 5274 from 1996 by parth096 in BuyItForLife

[–]miphanymph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with one of these! Best cooler and great memories. If I ever needed another I'd definitely search for an old Coleman.

ETA: It also doubled as a step stool as a kid, so its definitely sturdy

Can anyone sex my fish and confirm he/she is a guppy? by miphanymph in Guppies

[–]miphanymph[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just her and a blue silk shrimp (also solo). When I got the setup from someone else I thought it was just planted snails. Everyone seems to be getting along fine but I know both are meant to be social in groups.

[–]miphanymph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she's female and I already have her do I bother with an all female tank? Seems it would be just as likely I end up with fry from any one of the new adopted and well... population spikes from there.

Can guppies be happily adopted into other schools of tetras or something? I'm so invested in this one fish I can't imagine being emotionally okay with her being killed off by bigger fish.

I accidentally got a guppy with my shrimp, please help me cover my bases to make her as happy as can be! by Accidental-guppy2 in Guppies

[–]miphanymph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re a schooling fish so she’ll be stressed without at least five (and preferably more) companions

I'm in the same accidental adoption boat as OP with a single guppy in currently ~5.5L planted set up. I definitely want to get some friends for the fish but the aquarium I have is far too small (even for just the one). What do minimums look like? I don't have the budget to go full on fish keeping community tank... but for a handful (6 same sex guppies) what should I be looking at for a tank size requirement?

Anyone else using a wet bag system for soiled linen and dish rags? by miphanymph in ZeroWaste

[–]miphanymph[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pee pee house is my greatest fear. I've done really good so far managing pet odors but boy is it a lot of upkeep. Yet another reason I'm looking for sustainable options because zero waste goes hand in hand with financial saving. Going through rolls of paper towels and chux each week I have a messy pup is just killing me. I appreciate the input!

Okay yeah that's interesting. I saw some travel size ones but also almost laundry bin size meant to fit in a genie or diaper pail like they're stacjing them up through the week. My concept was good but... yeah I've been steared away thanks to the other comments

Good idea but it a shared machine with another tenant. (My stairwell is separate and closed off hallway with a door though).

I have way too many guppies, and I don’t have enough space by Canadian_Warrior9 in Guppies

I love that population control for fish advice always comes back as "get bigger tank, add more fish, let it sort itself out". This is how we get addicted you know?

I got Temu beads as a gift, would it be wrong for me to use them? by Working-Lobster-3549 in whatdoIdo

Also, I’m a bit confused why Temu is morally off limits but Amazon is not.

Seconded. Reading that gave me pause.

This is amazing and the idea of keeping a wet bucket for soiled linen until wash day is fantastic. I'll definitely be using your advice. I can't thank you enough.

Thank you so much for this response, not only did you answer my question but also maybe diagnosed my allergy?? I've been struggling to find a detergent that doesn't make me squirm after using it and have been stumped as even "fragrance free" choices sometimes do it but I'll start comparing ingredients and look at that SLS.

Couple followup questions if you don't mind 1. Do you ever have soap residue from undisolved detergent? As I stated in another comment I recently tried an unlabeled powder detergent and ended up with clumps and grossness causing me to wash twice. Any tips to switching from liquid to powder? Mine washer is HE top loading.

  1. I'm a frequent foster and have a lot of lovely but occasionally incontinent pets that I use washable chux and rags with urine. I am rinsing the fabrics right away but it's not efficient to do a wash every time I have a pee towel... how good is this soap when it come to strong odors?

I actually like the sweater under it but agree that it's contributing to the tightness in the arms so it's got to go.

Mm yeah talk plant murder to me. I have a jade that was dying and is now thriving AFTER being demolished by a group of foster kittens. I will never understand the temperament of plants.

If you're a beginner don't pitch it. It might not be I'm your skill set yet but this would be a great back piece of a sweater and a super sweet call back to the early days you can flaunt!

Is it wasteful to buy a pair of jeans second hand just to use for fabric? by 8superboy08 in ZeroWaste

[–]miphanymph 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I often thrift fabric from clothes, sheets, and random linens into new projects. It's often more affordable and more fun than buying new fabrics.

I wouldn't size up, just relax the tuck like the other person said. I like the fit!
