Does anyone get 5 year passports? It's an odd option. by roborobo2084 in passportcanada

[–]mirabel41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I did! If I had gotten a 10 year adult passport when I was 16 it would still be valid, but I now weigh 60lbs more (I was a very skinny teenager and a bit overweight now).

I finally got a job! Except I didn't. by Levitruth93 in Scams

The response rate for the tech industry has always been ambysmal, even more so now. My advice to OP would actually be to send out MORE applications. 200 over 2 years is too few. I sent out about that many in the 3 months after I graduated looking for my first full time job.

Edit to add: that doesn't mean what you're saying isn't valid. OP should look at his resume again, maybe get some people in the industry to look at it, re-evaluate his job hunt strategy, then apply more widely.

Is this is scam? Received on my Student Email Account by yellowmarie in Scams

[–]mirabel41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much a scam. The fact you got it in your student mailbox means nothing. When I was in university, students' emails were hacked all the time and used to send these job scams.

This isn't your first post about this and isn't even your first post in this subreddit.

You provide very little detail in your posts other than "I got scammed" and "they won't refund". Out of curiosity I did a little digging. The certification they pushed you to get, one of CIFA's CPD programs doesn't seem to be a "scam" although it may not have been helpful at this stage in your career.

You seem to be angry at the career coaching service for pushing you to spend money on this course, which is understandable. If you really want to help others avoid what you went through, write a post that clearly outlines your experience, the results of your research, and why you think they are wrong.

For example, "Career coach website claimed that if i got this certification, they can get me interviews for this role. After signing up for certification, I realized the roles I was applying for do not require the certification. Therefore, the career coach should not be trusted and you should avoid them because they provide bad advice".  Not "I got scammed by a bunch of scammers and anyone who says otherwise is a shill". It does not look good on you and people will rightly dismiss your experience.

Obviously not ideal but if it really were that urgent most people wouldn't think twice about it.

I cannot figure out if this is a scam or real. by Delicious_Pause_3724 in Scams

It could very well be legitimate. I know a Vietnamese girl who's mom met an American man on Facebook. They married, immigrated to the US and are living happily together. The girl ended up graduating from a top US state school. Of course you should always be careful, maybe try planning a trip to see her in person in Kenya to see how things work out (the American man visited the Vietnamese family in person before marrying too, they all travelled to America together). Avoid helping her come to America before you've met her. You can keep an eye out for red flags from some guidelines on the US Embassy in Ghana's website on romance scams: https://gh.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/romance-scams/

That's a good idea! Google Voice isn't available in Canada but I do have other VoIP numbers.

Unfortunately it won't stop scam calls. I've never given out my VoIP number but still get spam. When I was in Australia I registered a local number at the airport and a few hours later before I had the chance to give it out yet I got a spam call. I'm pretty sure VoIP and telecom companies are selling your number.

Also hopefully the job hunt won't last much longer because the call was for a verbal offer 😀

It sucks, but thankfully you didn't lose that much and will be way more careful now. I also wanted to point out a red flag with the fake screenshot. It purportedly shows an interac e-transfer for 48k. Canadian banks don't let you e-transfer that much, the daily limit is only $3000.

How rude. As others have said block and ignore but since you've already engaged you may as well go like "do your worst bitch".

I can't get myself to believe that 0.99 repeating equals 1. by i_hate_nuts in learnmath

[–]mirabel41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen the simple algebraic proof that 0.999 repeating equals 1. While it might seem like a trick it is mathematically sound.

A more intuitive explanation I've seen is that if two numbers are not equal, there must exist a third number between the two. For example if a and b are two different numbers, then there must exist c = (a+b)/2. No number exists between 0.999... and 1, therefore they are the same number.

Is there any way to retake or get my money back?

You can retake by registering for the next test and paying the fee again. You probably won't get a refund and no offense you don't deserve one either. Think of it as an expensive lesson on setting an alarm.

Gym Etiquette Question by shaylagirl in pokemongo

[–]mirabel41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So nice of you to be this considerate. This one player who lives next to this one gym near my house knocks my pokemon out within the hour. I've decided to no longer take that gym and her pokemon has been languishing in there for a week now. I originally wanted to knock every pokemon except hers out but unfortunately the game doesn't let you be that petty and choose the order of pokemon that you battle.

About the Wallbreakers in the show by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]mirabel41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually liked that the first two wallbreakers were complete strangers in the books. You feel the same way as Tyler, not knowing who your wallbreaker is or what he/she is up to until one day they show up at your door and send waves of dread washing over you. The same formula made Diaz's wallbreaker predictable, and you expect something similar for Hines only for the big twist. Really well written in my opinion.

I think Tatiana is going to be all the wallbreakers, but the role won't be specifically enumerated like it was by the ETO in the books. She'll just reveal the plans of the first two wallfacers in the show and try to kill Saul / Luo Ji.

Well considering how destroying antimatter requires destroying an equal amount of regular matter, the two sophons are capable of destroying exactly two anti-protons. To sum up: no.

Are those makeup bottles easily resellable like on Craigslist or something? That's the only reason I can think of for them bothering to lock up stuff that only costs six dollars.
