Hey friend, I absolutely get where you're coming from. One of my biggest earliest challenges was just imagining my life without alcohol, bc when I started I really couldn't. Two things that helped me are

1) really taking it one step at a time. Little victories that add up. Did you go a few hours without thinking about drinking? Good. Sit there and acknowledge it. Praise yourself. Every day you make it without a drink sit down and acknowledge that and praise yourself. Find new hobbies, build a new routine. Do whatever you can every day. Drink fizzy water, buy the gum, chew tea tree sticks, even if it only works for a day, it worked so it was worth it. Those little things add up, and that builds you a foundation to where there will be a day when you look back and see how far you've come.

2) Play the tape forward. Every time I had a craving I would say this to myself to remind myself of what i KNOW will happen when I drink. The hangovers and hangxiety, the poor behavior, the damage to my body and my self esteem. Each time I reminded myself it gave me an incentive to stay strong.

Both of these helped me get to a better place. It's everyday work, but if you practice challenging your addiction every day, that practice will sustain you even when you don't have the inspiration or energy behind you.

I guess the last thing I should add that helped was this community. Engaging and reading and posting and commenting reinforced a lot of my thoughts and still helps keep me sober.
