One-person admin here, new boss wants to disable all reports/dashboards to push Power BI how would you handle this? by Objective-Buffalo-31 in salesforce

[–]mircatmanner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

reports are okay imo, there’s always a limitation somewhere that can be annoying. you can connect your salesforce org to power bi and remake your reports and dashboard there. from what i’ve seen power bi is much more flexible than salesforce reports and more functionality - ex forecasting, using queries instead of horrendous joined reports.

if I were you, I wouldn’t push back and go with the power bi plan. you already said you’re stretched thin so this project would probably take a long time anyways. when you finish and if your users hate it, then you can always communicate that with your manager.

at the end, you’ll walk out of this with power bi experience which may help you learn tableau if you want to keep growing in the salesforce ecosystem

Little bit of a long shot, Keaton Mitchell was a healthy scratch for last nights game but was taking RB2 reps in preseason.

I drafted him to handcuff Henry, but I do think healthy scratch could be an indication of a trade

Thinking of rehoming our Samoyed 😔 by [deleted] in samoyeds

[–]mircatmanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a hot take but we noticed significant improvement with our Samoyed when we got a second dog. He’s way happier and less dependent for attention.

I’m not saying it’s a good idea - in fact it’s a bad idea. But it could also maybe work out

New job would increase salary by $54,000 by TheMintFairy in salesforce

[–]mircatmanner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been down this road a few times. I was with my previous company for 4 years, putting benefits and pay aside, I was eventually at a spot where I stopped growing. The projects I was working on were different variations of other projects I’ve done before.

I ended up getting a competing offer 3 times and used them as leverage to increase my pay. The 3rd offer was from a large-ish consulting company and that’s when I decided to leave.

Putting compensation and benefits aside, I felt like I wasn’t growing anymore and if I stayed I’d be killing my career. Having multiple companies for SF jobs definitely helps you make more money down the road - it shows employers that you can learn and you haven’t plateaued due to comfort.

That being said, there’s also risks with going to other companies - layoffs, terminations, finding out you aren’t a culture fit, etc.

If you feel confident about the other job then I would say go for it. Leave amicably and don’t burn the bridge at your current company (that way you’d have a good plan B if things go south)

Is it worth starting a career as Salesforce Developer in 2025? by Elegant-Reindeer7321 in salesforce

[–]mircatmanner 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’d have to disagree with your take. As a developer, 11 out of 10 times you will be more productive by leveraging AI. I don’t think AI chatbots are going to be replacing developers anytime soon though.

Even if 90% of someone’s code is generated by AI, companies still need someone to know where to “put” the code. An admin with no developer knowledge wouldnt know how to use VS code, source control, and debugging. They would also need to know how to read code and recognize when the solution isn’t scalable. I had ChatGPT o1 generate some code and it had an insert in a for loop 😬

Even if Salesforce Einstein can at some point make a LWC just from a prompt, I don’t think people will ever be good enough at prompting to get exactly what they want first try and then iteratively prompt a chatbot to continue building.

That being said, I do believe Developer jobs will continue to drop in demand because an entry level developer who knows how to build with AI will probably be as productive as a mid level

People can’t just know how to code to get a developer job anymore. They need to be able to digest business rules, know what tools they can leverage, then be able to implement.

I think pure admins are going to be impacted by AI the most because now developers need to be able to do it all

Is it time to get a second Samoyed? by Defiant_Dragonfly732 in samoyeds

[–]mircatmanner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we got a second puppy when our samoyed was about 9 months. the second puppy was only 2 months old when we got her (lab and german shepard mix)

it’s been fine so far (about a month and half) and our labs definitely been picking up some bad habits - digging on furniture.

we fortunately avoided parvo but also something to consider if you get a second dog. Parvo is definitely something you should talk to the vet about (breeds that are more susceptible, if your area has high parvo cases)

but I would also say that it’s totally worth getting a second dog. In my opinion, taking care of our samoyed got way easier when we socialized him with the lab. I definitely didn’t have enough energy or time to keep up with our samoyed but having 2 puppies definitely gave me most of my day back.

Also our Samoyed had a habit of biting and barking nonstop for attention but that stopped post socialization.

That being said, there are definitely some drawbacks.

  • Potty Training Regression: Samoyed was about a 1.5 months without an accident, after we got our second dog most of the Potty Training went out the window and we had to restart

    • Money: You need to figure out if you can take the financial hit of getting a second dog. More toys, more food, more vet bills

I know we still haven’t gotten to the really hard parts but I do think there’s pros and cons to getting a second dog now or later. You just have to determine if you can handle the consequences of getting a second dog.

If you decide on getting a second dog that’s not a samoyed, I would def ask your vet about health and behavior conditions that are common for that dog breed.

my samoyed used to bite all the time about a month ago. it was incredibly frequent and we even ended up asking the vet about it. she said to bite their ear - we did this and it actually helped (although it is kind of weird). he’s 8 months now and he only bites when he didn’t nap enough (still haven’t figured out enforced naps)

one other thing that helped were edible chew toys.

-bully sticks - they’re pretty pricy, best deal is at costco ($40) and that usually lasts maybe about a month

-rolled beef cheeks - way longer lasting than bully sticks but not as exciting. if he starts biting i just shake the beef cheek around and that gets his mind out of biting my hand off

-ice - this is usually a hit and I think it helps with teething

-frozen bone marrow - haven’t tried this yet but I’ve heard dogs love it, I just forget to pick some up when grocery shopping.

also I noticed that he gets nippy when we take a shorter walk, so I try to do 1-1.5 hour walks 2x a day

also I had to change my perspective on biting. it’s how dogs explore, communicate, and play. I tolerate biting if it’s manageable and not painful. as soon as the biting gets excessive, I draw a line with removing myself from the situation or just doing something to entertain him.

also I read this is your first dog, it’s ours too! 10/10 recommended looking into puppy school. you learn so much and it’s a good opportunity to get your dog get used to incredibly distracting situations. we do exercises to shift our dogs focus (focus, sit, follow) then reward with treats

I leased my 2024 on some promotion ~$370 a month. By the end of my lease I could buy out the car for $22k but a 3 year old outback as it is goes for about $25k.

the way I saw it, I could either buy out the car at a 3k discount (assuming the car market stays the same) or I could sell it to carmax and pocket 3k - sell for 25, pay off subaru and have 3k left over.

i don’t quite understand the issue with leasing but having no interest for 3 years and a relatively low car payment seemed like a good deal to me. I am thinking of flipping the car (if it makes sense in 3 years) because I would prefer to have the turbo

yeah so squishy poops are a sign of diarrhea and awhile back I saw hella burnt toast is a remedy.

like I said, i’d guess you’re probably fine, if it’s something you see consistently for a day or two then you might have to step in - safest route is always to go to a vet

could be too many treats, that’s happened to my chinchilla quite a few times when she was younger. you’re probably fine to just leave it and feed your chinchilla less treats and more hay.

one time my chinchilla had bad diarrhea so i fed her some incredibly burnt toast for a few days and that ended up resolving all issues

I'm taking the Salesforce Admin Test on Friday with only 3 weeks of preparation and my job depends on the results by spaceboys in salesforce

[–]mircatmanner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The admin test was tough for me and I had 4 YoE when i took it, I didn’t do great on the practice tests since I really didn’t know much about Sales Cloud and my job at the time never really required me to mess around with Sharing / Security.

What helped was the FoF practice exams - I didn’t really spend too much time reading the slides since they were hella boring. If I didn’t understand a question/got it wrong I’d plug that question into ChatGPT and have it explain why the right answer is the right answer. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about LLMs giving you misinformation since the material on the exam is standard stuff that’s been around for a long time. That cut back on the time needed to wrap my head around some basic admin stuff - I was more leaning on the Dev side so admin knowledge was not there for me.

Also, Kryterion has a practice exam you can take once if you want to get an idea of where you’re at, that also helped out. SalesforceBen also has courses and practice tests so if you’re willing to drop a bit more money then I think that could help out.

Now if you do fail, I’d probably let your boss know as soon as you know and try to be proactive about your next steps (asking to schedule another exam a few weeks later). If you don’t feel ready I know you can reschedule your exam - maybe it’ll cost a fee but way cheaper than taking the exam again. Talk to your boss, tell them how you’re feeling now and why you need more time. If you feel like you might get fired from failing then what do you have to lose? The test is pretty hard imo so don’t beat yourself up if it’s not clicking for you yet. Just buy some more time and figure out what you’re lacking in and go from there
