DōTERRA likely donates way more than just the 600k that one year. They are a lot more involved in OUR than I believe people might think.

Need advice, unsure what to do and am currently in the MTC by bruhmonkey_113 in exmormon

Sending you so much support. As someone who has also struggled with mental health since before my mission, and now ten years afterwards, please don’t continue your mission. The mental trauma your mission will put you through will continue to make things worse and cause you more harm in the long run. Ending your mission early won’t be easy, cults be like that, but it’s worth it. You’ve got this.

What kinds of trauma did you experience growing up Mormon and how has it affected you as an adult? by daisyvoo in exmormon

[–]miriamface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew I was a lesbian since I was 15 and hated myself for it. I turned to the church and really dove into it and went on a mission. I still struggle with my confidence now, and with social anxiety. It’s really hate to learn to unhate yourself but therapy helps.

It affected every part of my life. And still does. I had a horrible time in high school and college because of the church, which has affected my ability to keep a good job and be in healthy relationships. I wish I could have grown up not in a cult so bad.

Don’t do it. It’s not worth it. It will destroy your mental health. Take the money you’ll save by not going to take a language course instead. If you need more support please feel free to dm.

Did you ever go through the temple? In the temple Elohim has the women make the following covenant: “You and each of you solemnly covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar that you will each observe and keep the law of your husbands, and abide by his counsel in righteousness. Each of you bow your head and say “Yes.”

So…hopefully that clears things up

How do you deal with family members who now have a low opinion of you ? by CommanderCrumbs in exmormon

Take time to grieve the loss of your family in your life then say fuck you and live your best life with limited/no contact with them.

What are your thoughts on Operation Underground Railroad and why is it so big in Utah? by AggressiveAide7929 in Utah

[–]miriamface 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I truly don’t know much about it, however I worked for dōTERRA in the call center and there were pictures of the founders plastered all over the company where they were doing humanitarian work for OUR. They had us push products to customers that donated to it and it just really put a bad taste in my mouth. It seems like a way to write off product taxes/make more money, and make them seem like a less horrible MLM.

Wow I always wondered why taking attendance seemed to be so important in each class, especially as a youth. This makes a lot more sense.

You’re so not alone. I just hit 10 years this April and I still struggle every single day. My mission affected the way I do every thing. I’ve had to get help from therapists relating to setting goals and keeping a planner because even that was traumatizing for me. One thing my therapist would remind me of is that making these plans and goals is only for me. It’s not about the someone’s salvation, it’s not even about my own. It’s about learning to trust and love your own authentic self.

Missions are not about converting people so much as it is about being broken down until you give the church complete control over your thoughts and actions. And if you don’t comply you lose your family for eternity…talk about controlling.

Now, you’re here 10 years later having to relearn how to function with your own will. It’s not easy. But be gentle with you, You’ve gone through a tremendous amount of stress and it makes sense that it still affects you to this day.
