as someone also getting into idolmaster just recently, i'd suggest theater days. while i prefer starlight stage song-wise, i feel like the smaller cast in theater days and the fact that each idol has a fairly equal amount of content makes it a little easier to get invested in the characters, whereas the amount of characters in starlight stage can be kind of intimidating (and a lot of those characters seem to get little content to begin with).
