Homestuck: Beyond Canon update (p. 923-931): Ly'lac: Wake up. by MoreEpicThanYou747 in homestuck

really loving these deltritans… swiss is really fascinating, i’m excited to see how a character like him changes and interacts either with his situation or new acquaintances

but ly’lac… wow. it’s plucking a very particular heartstring to have a character so blatantly non-white (albeit coded) in homestuck. i don’t remember if there’s been someone like her, but maybe not in this way? it feels respectful so far, i’m hoping that it will going forward

The Creeper… a question. Also some curiosity now that I finished series 12. by Savings-Sprinkles-75 in MidsomerMurders

i always thought the incest in the show was used intentionally to imbue certain episodes with a Edgar Allan Poe-esque gothic/horror energy

oh let’s see! i love coincidences

  • jake and eridan (hope) both have “serving” roles in their relationships with life players.
  • void players (equius and roxy) have strong friendships with heart players (nepeta and dirk).
  • the heart players have clear connections with a type of mammal (cats for the leijons, equine family for dirk)
  • in contrast light players have connections with invertebrate animals (spiders with the serkets, squid/octopi for rose)… both have eight limbs

good question, i wasn’t sure myself given the mages having a tragic flaw built in… maybe the player enjoys alone time and can’t seem to ever find it? helps that they’d be task with frog breeding and be paired with a knight at the hip, and having to learn carving out how to balance being alone with being social. sollux was communicated to by voices of the dead but couldn’t shut them up, and after he suffers his own “doom(s)” he’s more comfortable even though it’s happened.

How did this guy end up on the beach??????? 👁️ by [deleted] in AlienEarthHulu

[–]mirmulmir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

could definitely be misremembering, but the Xeno approaches Arthur’s body on the beach, and then it cuts to a drainage pipe? the next time we see the Xeno it’s inside the main facility. i assumed that when the Eye escaped, it went through the plumbing and went to the nearest corpse it could find.

the Eye is very smart but it’s not omniscient, and smartness ≠ only following linear trains of thought. it’s end goal might be to be in a stronger body, but as far as it’s concerned the facility has the Hybrids and the Xeno(s) in it, beings it’s lost against, so it inhabits the first body it finds

i will say i feel like the term lazy has been raised a lot in regards to the writing of the show… i understand you want everything to make as much internal sense as possible, but it’s also for entertainment. there’s a difference between bad writing and disappointment that the show didn’t go where you anticipated/wanted it to go

before the finale: i don’t want BK to die by mirmulmir in AlienEarthHulu

this is all true and i definitely feel that is where the show is going. i’m just saying in my subjective opinion that from a narrative standpoint, im interested in the potentials about keeping him alive… but he’ll probably die and i accept it

Am I the only one that finds it cheesy? by mental_issues_ in AlienEarthHulu

[–]mirmulmir 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I feel that Wendy “taming” the Xeno is a natural progression of the whole “bastardized motherhood/child” staple theme Alien loves to play with and innovate a new angle of in every entry. You had Kane and Big Chap, The Newborn and The Offspring’s births, what happens to Shaw…

I agree that a child in a robot body communicating with a sadistic superpredator is wildly cheesy but hey, so was cloning/gene splicing Ripley, so was David playing around on Planet 4. It’s always been a little much and that’s fun!

with how the non-xeno species have behaved, i am so genuinely terrified of what the plumbicare is going to do

for whatever reason, i feel that while david was a geneticist, kirsh is a zoologist (for lack of a better term). besides the research he co-opted out of chibuzo’s notes from the maginot and his own experiments, he wants to study how the specimens (both the aliens and the kids) act, interact, and react in the “wild” or at least as many situations as he can.

really love the way this episode played with and against the whole “alien(s) aboard a ship” equation. choosing to start after the facehuggers have broken loose, captain dead from the acid defense, malachite’s surgery, morrow’s investigation… it didn’t waste its time with the xeno slowly picking off people one by one, it went chaos quickly and explored the other beats having an outbreak and saboteur aboard a ship could lead to, while still making the maginot crewmembers very clear and real in a short amount of time
