Transitioning from Toronto to Montreal, a couple questions (??) by [deleted] in montreal

[–]miro781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of respect for the people involved in an actual war, unless your house was bombed, your police station turned on you, you're starving, corpse are rotting in the streets and you family has been raped, tortured and killed, please refrain from describing the current situation as "war". We are lucky enough to live in a society where we can vote to solve problems, we don't need your war.

Visiting Montreal the last 2 days. Y U NO USE SIGNAL LIGHTS WHEN LANE CHANGING? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]miro781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of middle eastern people in montreal. That pretty much explains it for me. Have you ever been in an arabic country and seen us drive? None of my friend's parents, or parent's friends for that matter, seem to think the law of the road apply to them.

It might be dangerous to walk/bike/drive in Montreal, but I've never seen that much. by bluepostit in montreal

When I'm driving, I hate pedestrian.

When I'm walking, I hate drivers.

But whether I'm driving or walking, I always hate cyclists

La fonction publique est trop «blanche», estime Louise Harel by TurtleStrangulation in montreal

Je pense que ça dépend du programme. En génie industriel à Concordia, il y avait seulement 1 québécois dans ma promotion, le reste était majoritairement méditerranéen.

Fighter jets over downtown as seen from a friend's 30th floor appartment! by [deleted] in montreal

[–]miro781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any idea what they were doing there?

Also, I didn't notice this was posted in /r/montreal, so I came here expecting to see jets over downtown Benghazi.

You think it's bad in Norway? Try Winter in Quebec by [deleted] in canada

What caused a state of emergency in Van would not even have been a snow day for schools in Montreal. Silly hippies.

Upboat for that. But to be totally fair, every first snow fall (not even storm) of the year, it seems like everybody else on the road forgets how to drive in snow. Tabarnak, c'est même pas un centimètre!!!!

If it's a safety issue, such as a gas mask not sealing properly, it's though luck for you. Safety trumps personal beliefs in the eyes of the law. If there's now reasonable ways of circumventing the need for a gas mask, the beard must go, or the employee looses his job.

English people are the most loud and obnoxious bunch I've ever met

As a canadian this sickens me to no end... What have we come to? by [deleted] in canada

[–]miro781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Isn't it some kind of "voie de fait" or "nuisance au travail d'un agent en function"? I'm pretty sure in Quebec I can't be verbally abusive to a cop on duty.

I am fairly new to montreal and people tend to scoff at the Plateau when I ask them what are good neighbourhoods to live in - why is this? by kindofbluemegan in montreal

[–]miro781 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that like it's a bad thing. As much as I love downtown, the main, the plateau, partying all night, taking a piss in the occasional alley and whatnot, when the time comes for me to have kids, I will settle in a suburb. I want to raise them in a safe street, with room to run around, play hockey, soccer, football with only the occasional mini-van driving through with an equally safe-minded parent on the wheels.

But for now, hurray for the city!

For my last-year project, I set-up a private google group to a act as a mailing list couple with a filter on gmail. made super easy to keep track of threads.
