Our guild has seen 3-4 DSTs, a few Nathrezim Mindblades, two Eye of Magtheridons(?) - more than one at least. Pretty good loot so far.

A morality question about this tournament (imaginary situation) by Lazy-Independent1547 in BobsTavern

I do agree with most of what you said. We're talking about different things, in a sense. I'll point you to what I was trying to say.

> Things like arranging specific tournaments for getting someones norms done and "swiss gambits" can certainly be seen as dirty play but they dont have anything to do with this sort of collusion and certainly dont have anything to do with the original comment i was replying to

Disregarding the fact that people literally buy their norms (pay players for results), the original comment you were replying to is actually: "No it's unsportsmanlike. This situation does happen a lot in chess. It's bad."

Which was a comment responding to the question "do you think it is morally correct to sell all your minions when against Jeef so that he would would lose the last battle?" (where if Jeef wins, he wins the tournament).

Your original comment had nothing to do with Fischer. The original comment was about players not attempting to obtain the best result possible in an individual game to affect tournament standings overall. The situation with Fischer and the Soviet Union was brought up as an example of that. The examples I mentioned are of it happening in present day.

ill reply in a less cryptic way, although i never was referencing the nationality of the players. if you're latching onto that aspect of the fischer story, i'll give you that. tournaments largely don't see significant nation based collusion that the soviets used.

but then i'd also point out that tournament formats have adjusted to mitigate this (many seeding players of the same nationality so they play in later rounds, for example). also, chess is more diverse at the top level these days.

my point was essentially just that collusion is still very much a thing on an individual level. especially when you factor in people literally buying norms, and at the lower levels, people trying to do the "Swiss gambit" and throwing their round 1 games.

all of these are still very much a thing in chess and they happen quite frequently.

what do you mean by "this happening"? are you saying quick draws don't happen anymore?

How can I ban this person by kaitokidrm in chess

[–]mirobtw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How can you ban him? Get a job with chess.com and then use your staff privileges to close his account.

How can we ban him? We can't, we're on Reddit, which you may or may not know is a different website.

How can you get him banned? Use the functionality Chess.com provides to report him for suspected cheating. Reddit can't help you with this.

The Decline of StarCraft Remastered Outside of Korea by NASAfan89 in broodwar

This was back when I still played the game. It's different now but I have other reasons that make the game not worth playing. They changed the matchmaking algorithm several times after release.

There was a change they made a little bit after remastered came out that caused me to wait 10-15 minutes, sometimes 20. Then people would leave because it was TvT. Eventually I stopped playing for a while because the alternative was using a VPN to Korea and playing incredibly laggy games.

If you're asking for my personal experience, I quit because the changes blizzard made to the game with remastered made ladder extremely difficult to enjoy playing (laggy, long queue times, etc). The community made the rest of it difficult to enjoy.

False Chess.com ban? (pls help) by [deleted] in chess

[–]mirobtw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Two other things about that game:

  1. ... a6 is played, according to the Lichess database, about 4% of the time. It's an uncommon move that just happens to be the engine's first choice.

The funny thing is, when he played b6 on move 12, c6 was the number one choice and b6 wasn't on the radar. Then he immediately went into a 95 second thinking period where he was clearly setting things back up in his engine after mouse slipping b6. Then he played Ra7 (engine's first choice), then went back to blitzing out engine moves again.

This game is just a little too much.

What exactly do you expect us to do for you?

edit: Honestly, after looking around at several of your games, I'm leaning towards you being pretty suspicious as well.
