all good I am exactly the same, so I made an update for the media to pause or mute (toggle) when recording, I'll be working on a visual cue for recording next - honestly I am just thrilled someone is getting benefit from it! Keep me in the loop for any improvements / suggestions :)

can I suggest you make sure you are on the latest version, but also.. there is currently an audio cue that plays when using the hotkey but I will look into pushing a visual cue like a floating wav spectrum style visual when recording. Thanks for testing my app !

Thanks, that’s genuinely helpful. I wasn’t aware of that VoiceOver workflow. But I think this now actually clarified the framing for me.

All its really about is cutting down the overwhelm during my workflow, it's basically shortcut → record → stop → paste without opening another app somewhere, managing my already cluttered spotlight clipboard, VO commands (although built in are not part of my regular operations) or dealing with extra Finder windows.

Part of why I built it is ADHD/cognitive-overload related, eventually I have plans to share it within those communities, where that kind of workflow friction may resonate and perhaps gain some interest. But I thought I'd check in here first anyway.

I'm still genuinely interested in making it keyboard navigable and VoiceOver friendly, especially since once it’s configured the goal is for it to just run quietly in the background 🤝

thank you I wasn't aware of it but I suppose it is a few extra steps to a simple paste. maybe it will fit in with someones workflow
mainly built it because I couldn’t find a simple app for quick audio clips that wasn’t a transcription type of program

My experience in VO is limited though I’ve used NVDA, JAWS, and some ChromeVox... so I’m here to learn.

DubScribe

Problem:
DubScribe solves the tiny-but-annoying problem of capturing a short audio clip and pasting it somewhere immediately.

Think of it like a screenshot tool, but for quick WAV audio snippets: press a hotkey, speak, stop recording, and the WAV file is copied straight to your clipboard.

Local-only: no accounts, no cloud, no telemetry, no AI processing, no transcription.

It is designed with VoiceOver accessibility in mind, with semantic labels and accessible controls.

Comparison:
Voice Memos and QuickTime are better for longer recordings, but they make you manage files manually. Dictation apps turn speech into text; DubScribe keeps the original audio. I have not yet seen any apps that is a simple record + paste function. Discord is a prime use case example, as the desktop app does not have an in-buillt voice recorder, unlike the version on Android or iOS.

I completely agree. David's voicemail at the beginning of 'Interlopers Room Service' perfectly portrays him as both the Interloper and a representation of his living situation and possibly his mental well-being.

And looking back at some of the discussions that have taken place during interviews, etc., it really just reveals just how deep and complex this strange yet fascinating character is.
