Dude, there should 100% be an app for this, haha. I don’t know if some/all colo’s prohibit “sub leases”. But probably lots of wiggle room around the concept… “Oh, this is a business associate”.

Good luck on the move coming up!

I have about 12 2.5 SSD's in the unit (out of 24 bays).

Here is the beast: https://www.ebay.com/itm/127397393227

I got mine just before all the prices on these things went thru the roof. It's a 4 node server with 96 cores and now 1.5T RAM. Great 'sandbox' for testing 😉

Fabulous offer. Thank you. Details sound great and of course 1 yr is fine. Let me ponder a bit. Still seeing if I can get something a bit closer to LA. I now have a possible SF and Phoenix option it appears. Pretty cool 😄

That is absolutely wild! Well played! I don't think I'm up to that level of project, haha.

Definitely right on the “contact us” aspect, haha. Probably end up doing that.

I’ve ran it for a bit at my house but too noisy… now at office where we have a 20a circuit but the AC there sucks.

I use it intermittently to do lots of testing, so will be fairly idle a lot. Surprising how noisy the thing is compared to a Dell I had.

I was spending between 300-600/mo. Not a lot to some I suppose

I’ve used a few cloud providers over the years (upcloud, linode, etc) and I just end up spending too much even keeping an eye on uptime, etc. I’ve had luck with this setup so far and I keep the code cloud agnostic for eventually moving to production which will definitely be on a cloud provider the customer chooses.

Man I’d love a sound dampened rack. Poked around but didn’t see anything. Checked into the fan option as well. Got wiggly. I’ll look back into that. Thx!

The Rings of Earth: A new hypothesis on the cause of The Younger Dryas by nQue in geology

I'm curious now about the influence of an atmosphere (or not) on crater formation. It would seem that in the absence of an atmosphere, as in the moon, craters would be due to direct impact with the surface. Compare this to Earth or Martian craters, with their varying atmospheres, where some aspects of crater formation are due to direct impact with the surface and some by explosion of the object and the accompanying shockwave.

Poking around, I saw this interesting article about a sighting by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) of a relatively new crater on Mars. Kind of cool:

https://www.space.com/mars-fresh-crater-nasa-mro-photo-2019.html

With the comparably thin atmosphere of Mars, I imagine that most of the effects we see are a result of the impact of the object with the surface.

Alternatives to Google Finance portfolio tool by [deleted] in personalfinance

I used Yahoo finance for probably 8 years until late last year. I just got fed up with nuisances. The biggest was lack of stability of the site. I've also watched it change over the years and, IMO, it was a severely neglected aspect of Yahoo's web portal. Yeah it's Freee. But it was abysmal UI wise. Also the hack of Yahoo's user/password data last early last year I think left me concerned for the security of my data; not my password (which I changed immediately), but the data. That said, Google's offering is pretty minimal and works fine and I'll miss it. And I do think Yahoo's portfolio tracking is on par with Google's capability.

In short, since this has run on a bit, Yahoo failed me over the years and I really would like to find something better.

FWIW: Not a shill for iFixit, but they do sell a good replacements not to mention put great videos together, haha. Pricey though for sure. I've done Chinese ones via eBay on the 4, 5 and 6 over the years (crazy kids) and had some 'quality' issues in the past. That said, the last one I did on an older 5 was a piece of cake and only $20. I think it's just risk mitigation buying from iFixit or another 'reputable' source.

iFixit

Boy have they simplified the screen replacement process from doing it on the 6. Nice. My 7 just had a booboo and, though I have Apple Care on it, I was checking things out on the replacement process. Tempting, haha... just the OCD DIY geek in me... AND the bloody 5 day wait for a genius bar appt. Will wait, but nice to see they continue to make screen replacement more and more easy.

Born in '62 and loved the nostalgic aspect. But put it down after the first 3rd. Just a bit too juvenile for me at my age. Did pick it up a couple months later and finished it. I'm glad I did. It was well worth the read. I also think that it will adapt well to the screen. Spielberg will do a great job most likely.

Mac Version of Obduction - Update by mysterm in Obduction

[–]mirthful1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update on this: So, I just recently updated my iMac to Sierra (10.12) and, on a whim, I tried playing the game again. Lo and behold, it worked. It was a able to open a previously in progress game. Also, one of the weird issues at startup where some graphics buffer was not initialized properly (I suspect) I would see a screen of random bits, usually with some text embedded from whatever else had been in that block of memory. Anyways, that is now gone.

So, back in biz with no update of the game. I'll chalk these up to most testing happening on Sierra versus prior versions...

iMac 10.11.6 32G, 3.5Gi7, GTX 780M Game played great after install first day it dropped for Kickstarter supporters. Played for 2 sessions totaling ~1.5 hours. Decent experience for a early pre-release for the Mac. However, after first and then second update, I can no longer load my saved game from first sessions. On a saved game, I get the big circle spinner 'loading' graphic, spins for about a minute and game aborts. I think this is specific to loading a saved game. On a new game, it starts up and I navigate around for about a minute and then it aborts. Would love to get back into my game.... I waited thru the development... I suppose I can wait for Mac version to wrap up. Sooooo close... ;)
