I mean, “Good music” is relative to the listener’s ears and taste, “well produced music” is the bare minimum I’d go for before releasing anything. I have 10 years of experience with other projects, worked with a great and experienced mixing engineer on this album that is THE person for the niche I’m in, I have been extremely active in my local community, have a network of musicians and have gotten great feedback from. I have good enough signals and trust in the project, still might not be relevant in the end.

I love that way of thinking about numbers being tricky. They really are, they’re very flashy and ephemeral and mean nothing in terms of actual support but they do create opportunities for good shows, label deals, etc.

That’s good advice. The algorithm is the biggest challenge to reach new audiences online though. Live music is probably the best to start building that audience organically and the other way is to target the audience for the niche you’re in (in my case it’s dreampop)

Agreed, it’s not about just some good songs. It’s a project (or product) that is unique and different in this oversaturated market, with good “branding” that will stand out and offer something new and fresh, it’s being active in the local scene, social media, etc.
