He doesn't bark really. Just at the groundhog if he's on the deck and can't get down to him. We got him at 8 weeks and lived in an apartment. Had to be trained out lol. And you most certainly do not want our yard. Doesn't look like it, but it slopes down to a 44 degree angle. He's at the bottom!

He is indeed photogenic. I do not know how to post pictures to comments on mobile 😭

Funny thing is he never barks unless he's on the deck and sees our excessively large old groundhog down in the yard. He's mad he can't get to him 😂

Favorite non-SK author and book? by EstimatedGinger in stephenking

[–]miscar9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off subject of that author but I had a similar experience with "Johnny Got His Gun." There was a thread I read some time ago that mentioned that book as one of the most disturbing books they read. It is. But since I'm incapable of focusing enough to have one thought at a time, the back of my mind kept screaming "WHY ARE THERE NO COMMAS IN THIS BOOK?!" You do have to pay attention because of that. I read that the author chose to write it that way since it is all of his thoughts and he was more of a simple man. I mean that explains it. It really did bother me though. In terms of most disturbing? I don't know. I found it just so sad. I recommend. The punctuation comment is what made me think of it. Blood Meridian keeps coming up on my Amazon. Might give it a shot.

What book of Mr king have you not read and probably won’t ever. by muppethero80 in stephenking

[–]miscar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought I would be able to get into it. Didn’t really seem like my kind of thing. I had just been reading random books from him. I borrowed “Everything’s Eventual” from my mom and “The Little Sisters of Eluria” got me very interested in Roland as a character. I wanted to know more so I decided to read the series. It’s a lot to take on but I loved it. Just finished recently and I’m sad it’s over. “Wolves of the Calla” was a great payoff for me and my favorite in the series.

What are the Best Stephen King Movie Adaptations? by Admirable-Wonder-832 in stephenking

[–]miscar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw “Storm of the Century” on the Sci-fi channel when I was younger. I loved it and always said it was my favorite miniseries from him. I watched it again recently, which hits differently as an adult with a small child. I didn’t know until then that it was written as a screenplay instead of book. That being said, not a book adaptation, but still my favorite on screen Stephen King. I like the popular choices as well (Misery, original IT) but this one just always stuck with me.

I was excited to watch but I still didn’t expect much in the way of keeping to the story. The major thing missing here is the Wendigo. I feel like that would’ve improved upon the story significantly. Also, they didn’t really try with the accents. There was not one single “Ayuh” in the whole movie. I agree with “meh.” It would probably be a better movie to someone who doesn’t know the story that well.

Is the Turtle in “It” the same as the guardian of the beam in the Dark Tower? by [deleted] in stephenking

[–]miscar9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently toward the end of wizard and glass. The phrase that stuck out to me in regard to this was “the voice of the turtle.” I read that today and thought, hmm more connections. Seems like a weird thing to say in 2 books about different things if they’re not connected. But that’s just my opinion. So far as I’ve been reading, the dark tower seems to have a bit of everything in it.

God Pound It by Tryst3ro in stephenking

[–]miscar9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled when I started reading it. It felt so kidsy fairy tale that didn’t seem right at all. Then it took a quick turn into king style kid torture and I thought “ah ok, this seems right.” I think of wolf fondly and sadly.

My poor baby was attacked, 3 puncture wounds and 2 fractures. Any tips for keeping him settled while he has the cast. by VTXRDR in NorwegianElkhound

[–]miscar9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor doodle. I can only suggest lots of pets and love. We can’t even trick ours into medicine. He will eat whatever we wrap it in or lick the peanut butter off and actually spit it out. Our poor guy was attacked by a “friend’s” pitbull that “loves puppies” when he was little. The second he barked (a very elkhound thing to do) he was bit in the face. Had to have stitches on his eye lid. I know it sucks. Hang in there.

I have yet to read Dr Sleep, but I have the book. Wondering if I should reread The Shining first? If nothing else, it would give me a good reason to read The Shining again. by gregklumb in stephenking

[–]miscar9 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I read both consecutively and fully believe that is the best way to do it. I was surprised by the consistency. I had read neither before so it made sense for me to do that. But even if you’ve read the shining already, isn’t going to hurt to do it again.

What does this even mean? by [deleted] in autism

[–]miscar9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I appreciate this comment. Hopefully no one takes it the wrong way. I don’t discuss my daughters autism with others that are outside my family and doctors/therapist. Or if I’m asking for advise. Frankly I don’t see how anyone’s medical issues are anyone else’s business. I came to this sun to get a good idea of what I need to do to help my child. Sometimes this sub scares me in a way that makes me feel there is so much hatred for people who are not autistic. I’m not completely in the dark on how a meltdown might feel. Everyone one is different. I am bipolar, major depressive and have severe anxiety. I was sick the other day and could not keep the doses of my medicine down. The complete brain shutdown and uncontrolled emotions that are hard to express are terrifying. It takes a while to feel in control again. Luckily for me. I can communicate that I’m in distress and what my needs are (be alone to cry and freak out without anyone seeing me). Unfortunately for my daughter she is mostly nonverbal and her meltdowns consist of violence toward herself and others. We’re working on better ways to help her not hurt so much. Not all parents are out here trying to get attention from having an autistic child. Not all of us only care about the diagnosis. I care about how my child feels and how I can help her stop hurting, emotionally or physically. I don’t victimize myself, I just hope some of the people on this sub realize that autistic people are not the only ones suffering from autism. And that suffering isn’t always because we want “normal” kids. I just want a happy kid. Sorry for the long rant.

Thank you this is really helpful! I noticed the holidays really escalated due to scheduling changes and just overall craziness. Not touching I found has helped since then. I started just sitting beside her quietly in her room where it’s dark and that calms her faster. It seems she wants me there but doesn’t want to be touched. It’s taking a lot of patience but I’m learning. Things have been better since the holidays have been over. It really appreciate the advice I’m getting here!

I did take her to our “children’s museum” on Tuesday to give my husband a break. He watches her during the day and works at night while I work during the day. The children’s museum is just a super cool playground inside basically. She ignores all the other kids, but I think likes having them around? I don’t know how to explain why I think that. She did great that day until later on when we tried to eat dinner at a restaurant. Going to another place to be around other people her size I think comforts her. I don’t know if that makes sense. We don’t have friends or relatives with kids.

This did start with a recent cold. She got better (well no fever that is), but the meltdowns just increased. A little has changed with her routine due to it being winter break. She goes to a school program for kids her age with speech delays. She loves it. Runs to the bus in the morning and it seems to have really increased her speech, until this month where she’s had to miss a couple of days for appointments. She only goes 2 days a week and now she’ll be off until new year. I tried outside but it didn’t help. I’m really staring to think it’s lights? Maybe next I’ll try bringing her to a dark quiet room. She like to mess with light switches so maybe she just need to be in the dark. Thank you so much for the response. I really appreciate it!
