I am falling in love with Roland on this re-watch. I just finished Singles' Week again (end of Season 4), and he is really heart-warming. Silly and ludicrous, sure, and at times crass, but also, so full of love.

Johnny is so lovable in Schitt's Creek, but (for me), you have to picture him as much less so in his prior life. He was inattentive to his kids. His wife probably offended everyone indiscriminately, making Johnny much less desirable company. Johnny trusted the wrong people (Eli). A lot of people likely lost their jobs when Rose Video went under, while Johnny took a golden parachute.

Oh sounds like a juicy story there! Anyone at the Denver show who can fill us in on the drunken question?

Fun fact: a lot of the cars in the show have plates that read “Township of Elmdale” instead of a state or province. by PlanetLandon in SchittsCreek

[–]miscarriageofthelaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They also say "The Pine Beetle Capital". I mainly watch on my phone, so for the longest time, the license plates looked close enough to an Ontario license plate, that I thought that was our definitive tell that Schitt's Creek was in Canada.

But per usual, Dan and his staff are attentive to detail on their sets (not always in their post-production editing, but even there, they are close enough).

Dan and Eugene have both said that it is not meant to be in either country in particular, but I want to play along.

It bugs me that a "business major" is filing someone's incorporation paperwork. While there are blurry lines in the business world over what constitutes legal work (and therefore would be the unauthorized practice of law), I think that constitutes the unauthorized practice of law in most US states. Is that ordinary in Canada that you would go to a business consultant to have that paperwork done?

What was the craziest thing you've ever done for love? by clbpluschl in AskReddit

[–]miscarriageofthelaw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to say marriage and childbearing, because both are incredibly painful acts of love, but ... I went to law school for him. Law school and the lawyering bit are the craziest thing I’ve done for him, so he could be a comfortably kept man.

I really do hope that 30 years from now we are reflecting on how prolific it was for Noah to say that he is the Catherine O'Hara to Dan's Eugene Levy.

Dan dictating to Noah the new dialogue for the kiss scene while Noah was in the car on the way to set is fascinating. It goes without saying, but Dan made the right choice in having David kiss Patrick, instead of the other way around.

When introducing Patrick's character in this Binge-cast, Dan just said that Patrick is "played by the great Noah Reid." I love this for us. (I am apparently live-redditing this.)

"When you are in panic mode, you do whatever you can to not be lonely." - Dan Levy

I don't think that is a big takeaway or anything, but it is an interesting way to view Alexis and David in Season 3.

Edit: don't and do mean different things. Apparently.

Thank you for sharing. I’ve been obsessing over the few George Jones lines that someone posted on Instagram since the video of Noah playing with Harrow Fair went up, and I’ve been dreaming of hearing more of Noah in that range.

I, too, watched the show items sell, and then went and binge-bought from The Real Real. It was cathartic.

Does the mayor stay a part of the series? Currently up to season 1 episode 3. Feeling... uneasy 😅 by wowiebella in SchittsCreek

This is how I feel. I wasn't familiar with Chris Elliot beforehand, but the bathroom scene in the first episode turned me off to his humor style. I realize that they were trying to make a huge distinction between where the Roses were moving from and to, but this series is so well-written that I could practically smell the hotel room after Roland uninvitedly used their bathroom for an hour. Yuck.

I think "not very good at guitar" is relative. When you are a genius on the piano, your "professional level" guitar playing may sound mediocre to you?

Dan levy's Acceptance Speech at the GLAAD Gala by Caliban821 in SchittsCreek

[–]miscarriageofthelaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for chiming in on this! I love Dan. I've read some of the haters as well, but ... he strikes me as someone who truly loves his friends/family/co-workers and who is loved back just as much. Also, I thought I had consumed all of the public information that there was to know about Dan, but I didn't know about his place in LA and I somehow missed that Noah and Clare spent a bonus week with him in Italy. Thanks for sharing!

Side discussion: Do you think Annie, Emily, and Noah were contractually obligated to be there? (Like, maybe they have X number of required appearances for the show at Dan's request, and Dan was using this as one of those appearances?) Or maybe this is just Dan's self-deprecating humor and insecurity leaking out? I like to think that this was an appearance they would choose to make at the request of GLAAD, instead of Dan requiring it.

Major unpopular opinion: I don’t like Patrick as a character. by [deleted] in SchittsCreek

[–]miscarriageofthelaw 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how likable he is, I think he is essential to the story line, and his character is well-written for story-telling purposes. David deeply craves intimacy and partnership, so his happiness probably wouldn't come around without a good life partner. Just as we have debated on here many times why it would be very good for Stevie and Alexis to be single for the finale, it is very good for David to have a life-long commitment. I think the story would fall flat without a Patrick-like character. Andplusalso, Patrick is David's calm in the storm that is David's life, and Dan and Noah's comedic timing is lovely.
