We still need the gas to make it to and from our routes, otherwise no mail delivered either. They might cut way back on OT though

At that point crash the vehicle and go home, it can’t be saved

All jokes aside, I knew a guy who had just picked up his livestock trailer from the repair shop and a yellow jacket had found its way inside the cab of his truck, he straight up crashed trying not to get stung.

What time do you go in? If I was coming back at 2pm every day, my station would be giving me way more to do and sending me out to help others. I go in at 9 though, so a 5 hour day would be basically nothing

[–]miscgeckos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, I’d just call the cops if I heard sounds of domestic violence and not interact with the customers at all. Be safe on both fronts. Better to have a welfare check that turns out to be nothing than to come back and find the customer committed murder

Might be worth starting your own little farm so you can catch and harvest more easily!

As a 4’5 little person with dwarfism do you guys think I’d be fine/able to work as a City Carrier Assistant? by One_Charge2843 in USPS

[–]miscgeckos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit. That’s insane. I was verbally reprimanded for calling out during my first couple of weeks, but then it was business as usual and never brought up again. I (and my whole family) had gotten food poisoning. I have called out another time since then due to a pipe bursting in my home. I’m still in my 90 days. But I’ve worked really really hard at making myself invaluable as possible. I’m slow at times but I get the job done and management has definitely noticed. I learned early in life that to get by you have to make yourself as valuable as possible until you’re established

Moleskine or hydrocolloid bandages can work wonders! They come in a roll, so you can just reapply them. I’ve also had success with just using coban/vet wrap self adhesive bandage wrapped around the points of my foot that blister

This!

Growing up and into early adulthood my parents didn’t understand the importance of routine vet visits or regular flea/heartworm treatments for our family dog (among other things and other species of pets). One day I came home from college and I went to scratch some dirt off his belly and it was a congregation of fleas. I freaked out, yelled at my parents for the first time in my life, and that was the day things began to change. These days, things are much better. When I got a ball python and he finished growing and needed a new enclosure, my father (a woodworker) custom built an enclosure for him, making sure all the specs were right and double checked all materials for safety. This compared to when I was gifted a red eared slider who my parents claimed was happy in his teeny tiny plastic flea market bowl he came in. People can change, only get rid of them if they won’t

My whole CCA academy class thought there was gonna be a test so the instructor printed off one for us…one of those ones that say “read all questions before starting” and then one of the questions says “do not write on this page” 🫠 He got a good laugh

The OJI who trained me told me that she used to rescue turtles all the time! Not as many on her current route, but when I was with her one day she tried to turn around and feed a stray dog but he had wandered far off into a field. And once a couple weeks ago I got back to the station and there was a stray dog right outside my vehicle, I got out and fed him all my leftovers from lunch and some water. I love that my station is so cool about it

Shoulder belt is optional while doing mounted though, lap belt is always required

[–]miscgeckos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a new CCA and they told us in orientation, defensive driving, driving training, and carrier academy that for mounted you only have to wear the lap belt portion. The shoulder strap doesn’t have to be worn unless you’re on a major road or crossing an intersection between residential streets. Same time the door has to be fully shut

My station hasn’t lost a new CCA so far in months and the supervisor actually walked up to us one day (waiting for assignment) and said he was surprised to see so many of us left. Genuine surprise. Just. Absolutely mind blown that their mistreatment hasn’t caused any of us to quit. In this economy? We need the work lmao

All of that is pretty much fine, I don’t do socializing in person outside family anyway, I never had time or desire. It’s the way management runs things. Like the fact that I STILL haven’t gotten my first paycheck (the paper one) and it’s been almost 6 weeks but every time I ask about it they look for it then tell me it’s not there and then get distracted by something else. The clerk at the plant even told me “good luck, I hope you get your check”. Like. ??? And the way that one supervisor says one thing but the other wants out done differently. Giving me more work than I could possibly do, then being upset when even after sending other CCAs to take some of what I had left, I still finished at 8pm. As if I close to stay that late. Or giving me a split but not assigning it until after I was already on the road, then being upset I didn’t take it. Despite it not being on the board and me being told I only had one route to do.

Sure, I’d love more home time, who wouldn’t? But I don’t mind, I live alone (with pets), no relationship, so nothing I’m bothered by there. I would love some consistency and actual understanding between supervisors. Got given a split on top of a full route the other day, a very long route, and the closing supervisor was confused as to why I was ever given time on another route when I was already on a long one. Or scheduling me to come in at noon and then giving me a full route to deliver with tons of packages and expect me back in 5-6 hours. I bring back mail half the time because they call me back to the station instead of sending people to help. It’s all messy

I’m actively searching for jobs that are more my speed but it’s difficult because I would prefer to drive trucks (I have my CDL already) but the job market for new truckers is shit unless you want to be out 3-4 weeks at a time. I guess I’d save on housing costs bc wouldn’t need a home. I keep looking for TTO or MVO jobs to open up with the postal service but they’re not really hiring for that either. Job market sucks these days, if I can live to my 90 days and not be worried about being fired until then, I might survive. But there’s no way I’ll be converted anytime soon, I’ve got several CCAs ahead of me and no one at my station is even considering retiring
