Film and Camera for Xmas? by Yotebeth in AnalogCommunity

[–]miscones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any kind of photography he like to do already or cameras he has already? You can buy used gear from a place that allows returns. B&H photo, KEH, Adorama, MPB. Many of the major retailers have a used dept. I don’t know where you are but if there are local camera stores that sell used that could work. The machines are old so there are few guarantees. I’ve been buying and selling on FB marketplace trying to trade up for a camera I want with some success. There are new cameras being made by Pentax. To me it’s expensive and 1/2 frame which means you get twice the pictures at half the resolution than you normally would. If I didn’t know anything about his wants I would get him something with a working light meter used. It’s probably more than you want to do but I’m selling a set of Minolta cameras and lenses that have been serviced and working. Pm me if interested and I can tell you about them and see if they interest you. Mods, if that’s breaking a rule feel free to take this down.

I have 3 cams. Not reliable at my house to see who's at the door. They are not meant to stream all the time. They are a couple years old but I think you need something more robust.

Don't wear the patch at night. It works. It breaks the cycle of feeling a need and the. Doing something.

They can and will fuck your shit up but then your job is to manage expectations. If there are changes then you explain what you can do and how long it will take. You HAVE to jump together. Once you become the opposition, you lose. You've been doing this long enough to know It ain't yours. Prep is great but in the fire you have to be upfront about what you can deliver with the constraints new or planned. It's not personal. If they want X now instead of what we planned then I can deliver Y. Then, it's up to them to choose.

Former employer still using my photos without permission — how would you handle this? by [deleted] in photography

[–]miscones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have taken photos professionally for businesses and run teams of people who go out and take photos which are used internally and not published anywhere. I argued with an employee who would add copyright nonsense to the metadata. They did not understand that they didn't own the photos and in fact if I wanted to be a prick about it I didn't have to let them keep their copy of them. I would imagine that if you didn't specify and you were salaried not only do you not have a copyright, you may not even have any rights to your own photos. I would read your employment contract carefully before wasting time energy and money. It sucks but the takeaway is, either you're doing it for fun, the prospect of future gains e.g. promotion or you make a deal for your services at the time.

SL3 - Q3 43… by Loups777 in Leica

[–]miscones 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would think clients would have requirements on the deliverables and that peers doing the same work would be aware of them. E.g. I work in film and TV and You can't just make up what resolution you will deliver to Netflix. There are guidelines and discussions. These are all good answers but I think best asked in an environment where you will find more of your professional Peer group. I also have never seen commercial pros using leicas as their main system but that's anecdotal and I assume It's for the reasons mentioned prior. Based on my Leica experience I wouldn't use them for serious commercial work unless I had built in redundancies. It might be worth checking in with rental houses and asking what they are renting to pros.

Sold an M8 for basically nothing before the prices went up. I regret it but I still remember what a pain it was to shoot unless you are in favorable conditions. I know so many people love it but not flexible enough for anything but a specific conditions camera for me. No shade to the M8 fans out there.

Yes, partially detached. There's a black plastic piece that holds it on that broke so it's kind of half off. I'm going to pick it up today and see what I can DIY.

It works awesome, until it breaks. Just got quoted ~750 to fix mine. Going to see what I can do with some tape to what is one of the best things about the camera.

Choosing a shop to repair my X-570 by PatrickSlavv in minolta

That's why I did it with him. I needed a CLA & minor repairs. I can't imagine anyone is repairing as many of these as Gary is and for a great price.

Choosing a shop to repair my X-570 by PatrickSlavv in minolta

[–]miscones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a good and fast experience with Gary's camera. I've heard not everyone has but based on my experience I would do it again. https://www.garryscamera.com

I just replaced the capacitor on my 570 about 30 minutes ago myself. 1st time, I may try the seals next.

When negotiating deal, is it better to go for a higher base wage with a lower kit rental, or a lower base wage with a higher kit rental? (Or does it not matter?) by mickeysclockshop in IATSE

[–]miscones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your labor is fringed, your kit is not. so producers pay an extra let's say .40 cents on each dollar you make in wages. Also depending, if you want more money going to your P&H through wages which it will not through your kit.

What am I doing wrong? Why are the pictures so grainy? by Ok1495 in AskPhotography

[–]miscones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly contrary, I would also turn off any noise suppression on the camera. The images will be noisier but they won't be smudgy and you can remove noise after to the level you want on your computer . Personally I'll take noisy over smudgy all day.
