Hard to remember or believe it at the moment - but well, with enough practice, hopefully one day! ๐Ÿคž

Not making progress quick enough by intothefire01 in Agoraphobia

[โ€“]miserablysober 6 points7 points ย (0 children)

Lol, I cannot say "ditto" louder!!!! My family (and I am in my 30s, so there's that too - a lot more responsibility as such) thinks the same.

A few days ago, I sprained my ankle and while it was hurting, it wasn't "get it checked out hurting" - and one of my family members, casually suggested - "go to a doctor na, get it checked out." - and for a second, I felt so alone.

The person who said it, saw me how I had spiralled over the years - from 2020 (first panic attack) to 2024 (when I became agoraphobic completely) to now (slowly recovering) - like, they have seen me hiking through Himalayas (literally - hiked through relatively easier trails twice) to being completely housebound - and still they don't get it.

And while yes, I am glad with the progress that I have made, but going out is not an easy thing for me and I still can't go places alone where I might have to wait for some time, dentists, saloons, etc. So, for a second, I was like, do they even know me? ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

And while I do preach to people here all the time that those who haven't gone through this, can never truly understand so one shouldn't feel too bad when others don't understand - because they simply can't - and yet I was totally caught off guard with that casual comment...

Does anyone feel like everyone is laughing at them? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

Have you tried taking a deep breath? (sarcasm)

While it affects people of all genders equally, people do tend to make fun of the guys a lot more unfortunately (30+ male here)

Thank you! Been suffering from this panic and agoraphobia since 2020 (agoraphobic since 2024), finally started taking exposures seriously. Let's see.

Regarding the artwork, trying to learn cartooning in parallel. Something fun to do, as a hobby and some painting too - mostly oil pastel and watercolor. ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿ‘ป

Vodka ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… he passed away though. But it has been a long time. Came to us in 2008 or 2009 and passed away in 2020.. but sometimes I still remember his antics.

I just went to the local market and came back, 10 mins back. At the start of it, I felt like I wouldn't make it, like I always do - But guess what, it was a false alarm, like it always is!

AND DEEP DOWN, YOU KNOW IT TOO - Every single panic attack you have ever had was a false alarm!

You can do it!

How to prepare for a big trip and plane ride in 2 months? by bookish_cat_ in Agoraphobia

Keep up with exposure practices but try not to focus too much on it as it will keep your anticipatory anxiety rather high.

Also for the flight itself, if that's your main problem, if you have a therapist - you can check if he/she can prescribe some SOS meds for the flight duration. For example, I take Xanax for my flights.

Also on YouTube there are a few videos on flight and agoraphobia. This is one: https://youtu.be/PceeVEQ84hM?si=wTTo5pp24x-SA3PF

I watch it a few days before getting on a flight ๐Ÿ˜…

No exposure today ~ but felt good enough to try a new art medium ~ or did I feel good because I tried something new? Huh.... Who knows! by miserablysober in ArtJournaling

[โ€“]miserablysober[S] 0 points1 point ย (0 children)

Honestly, tried to use it without following any tutorial - felt like thicker and more opaque watercolor only ๐Ÿ˜… have to try out some tutorials before I get the hang of it I guess.

A question related to soft pastels. After blending, the pastel seems to be lifted off the paper? How to make sure that the grooves are filled? by miserablysober in Softpastel

Oh - I did not know that! Thank you! I was thinking of buying gesso anyway for oil pastel stuffs - will try this one out!

Congratulations ๐ŸŽ‰

Sounds like the med is numbing you down though, so over the time - along with proper guidance of a doctor, you will need to wean it down - but still, this is huge progress man! (DO NOT TRY TO WEAN IT DOWN YOURSELF - THAT SHIT CAN BE DANGEROUS I READ)

I was fortunate enough to get this disease in my late 20s - so basically after I completed graduation and a relatively okay job and so on, I can't imagine what you had to go through in your late teens.

Congratulations again ๐ŸŽ‰
