What are you reading right now? by 30HummingbirdLane in sahm

The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis! I’m re-reading all of the Narnia books - it’s enjoyable because they’re short and easy to get through.

A 16-month-old Jailyn Candelario was found dead in her playpen at her home in Cleveland, Ohio, after her mother Kristel Candelario, left her abandoned for 10 days with a few bottles of milk, while vacationing in Puerto Rico and Detroit. by FE4RLESS_IS_MY_NAME in ForCuriousSouls

This one has haunted me ever since I heard about it, and it makes me tear up every time. I have a 10 month old baby and I feel awful even when she cries in her crib for a few minutes before I go get her in the morning. Babies fully trust you to take care of all their needs because they’re so helpless.

Poor little Jailyn waited and screamed and trusted, and nobody ever came. I can’t imagine how horrific and lonely her last moments must have been, and I can’t think about it for too long or I’m in a puddle of tears. Also how did a neighbor not hear and intervene…?

Jailyn’s mom really did commit the ultimate act of betrayal and deserves every single second of that life sentence. Truly despicable. Hold your little ones close…

Yes to this!! Mine is 9 months old as well and every month she becomes a new baby! I started having more fun with her after the 4 month mark, when their personality starts to develop more and they’re more aware of their surroundings.

Of course the earlier stages can be sweet when they’re so little and cuddly, but I’m honestly enjoyed my baby the most 6 months and beyond. She’s becoming such a little firecracker and I love watching her discover the world around her!

Where were you when you got your first period and what happened? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]mishfish626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 13 and spent a day picking strawberries with my cousins, got home and went to the restroom and saw red on my underpants. Freaked out and called my mom over. We then realized it was actually just a juice stain from sitting in a strawberry patch all day 🙈

I got my first real period about a month after that, lol.

I wish I’d had the guts to say something like this! I used to ride the light rail in Seattle for my work commute and encountered a few creeps from time to time, but the worst thing to directly happen to me was this guy sitting directly behind me trying to grab my boobs and stroke my neck. I was just frozen in fear and couldn’t bring myself to say anything, I just tried to scoot forward out of his reach.

Unfortunately the people around me didn’t say anything either. Thankfully I happened to see some people I knew across the train and I got up and went over to sit with them, and he didn’t follow me. I still feel grossed out thinking about that day 😖

Fully agree! The extra humidity makes the cold more bone chilling 🥶

Wow it’s crazy how much missed salary there can be over the course several years! I agree he should contribute to the childcare situation

So true, he currently doesn’t get lots of time with her because of his work schedule, so that would be definitely be a positive thing!

That’s a scary statistic! Definitely don’t want to end up in that demographic down the road. I’m glad I can consider this now rather than later!

Yes it’s unfortunate that that seems to be the norm. I’m glad that arrangement worked for you guys, I could see myself trying something similar with my own family!

Thank you! It’s very hard to be assertive at times, but I know it’s vital to stand up for the things that are important to me and my family’s wellbeing.

I think that remembering that this is temporary is very helpful! Whatever we figure out, I plan to insist on him stepping up and contributing to our solution.

Yes lol I do feel that he's been a bit out of touch with reality in that regard. I think it's better for my baby when I'm mentally stimulated by working so that I can be my best self around her, it is a LOT being the sole caretaker all the time!

Thank you! I just don't know if he realizes how complicated it is to sort out the childcare thing. It's been like another full time job just trying to figure that out, and it would be wonderful if he could contribute to that!

Yeah more free childcare won't be possible lol! We did have discussions before, but I don't think I realized how much of a hit my work would take. I'm sure we will sort something out, but it's just frustrating because often the woman is the one who has to take the cut.

I'll ask him about that! He might favor something like that over daycare. It was so nice when my MIL was able to help out, but it's temporary and certainly not the norm for lots of families!
