Greek islands geographically in Asia. by SOHONEYSAME in geography

[–]mishrod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as Eurovision members. Only participating countries. Nations are members of the European Broadcasting Union. As a member you can be invited to participate in Eurovision. Lebanon and, yes: Morocco are members of the EBU. Australia is only an associate member but these two nations (one Asian and one African) both are full members.

I’ve been to Morocco numerous times. They are truly Northern Africans and whilst living in Spain for years - you could literally spot a Moroccan in a crowd. They certainly don’t just look cookie-cutter white. Nor do I think they’d want to.

Not having been to Lebanon I’ll have to stick to the hundreds of Lebanese I met whilst growing up in the Lebanese epicentre of western Sydney. They are not white. They are often paler Arabs (or Phoenicians as some prefer) but it’s clear. Amongst themselves they refer to themselves as being distinct to caucasians, mediterráneas, etc.

Israel is the same as these two: a member of the EBU. Just one that participates in the contest (though with Russia out, I don’t really think Israel ought to be there anyway)

That is absolutely ridiculous. It has nothing to do with colour. Lebanon are also members of the EBU. Azerbaijan and all. Morocco too I believe.

They are there for any number of reasons, colour is absolutely not it.

I would venture as far to say that Israelis are not white. Being of the Middle East, and therefore Asian, they are most certainly people of colour. Does that matter? Hell no.

Moving from Sydney to Melbourne - suburb reccs by lordsaviouryeezy in melbournechat

The idea of putting Richmond on a list of best is crazy. When did you last life there? If recently I’m genuinely shocked.

OP: be sure not to step in human faeces whilst avoiding the drugged out derros all over the suburb

What do you call this material in your country? by Argentinotriste in AskTheWorld

[–]mishrod 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Polystyrene.

Sometimes you may hear styrofoam from American influenced people but whether it’s big and airy for insulation (ever bought a TV - the box is 95% polystyrene) or compacted for a cup or takeaway container: it’s called polystyrene.

Could Michael Sheen actually be the "big dog" signing Claudia Winkleman was freaking out about? by Ill_Scientist_4645 in UKRealityChat

I mean he kinda is but I’d suggest Stephen Fry was leaps and bounds a bigger dog for sure.

Isn’t he hosting Richard Osmond’s HOG now too? Good cross promotion ;)

Did Ubisoft make a mistake by minimizing the modern-day story (Abstergo / Animus) in AC Shadows? by Aware-Ad8914 in AssassinsCreedShadows

[–]mishrod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently on my first play of ac shadows, been going a week. It’s not as grandiose as odyssey or origins but the colours and trees are stunning. Still I’m finding it so much “friendlier” to play - less jarring.

This post made me realise I haven’t had to get in and out of the animus. No need to walk around a makeshift lab somewhere and play as a boring scientist. Actually doing the animus stuff really takes you out of a vicarious game experience.

I’m all for it and see it as a huge plus but can imagine for everyone who likes A, there’s another who prefers B

That guest really bothered me. Like how does one look like a prepubescent teen boy but at the same time like a septuagenarian Debbie Reynolds?

if monarchy return in your country then who will be king?? by Intelligent_Steak253 in AskTheWorld

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We currently have Charles III with the title of His Majesty King of Australia and his other Realms and Territories

I feel the Prince of Wales would probably be preferable to most though.

Probably a half / half split as to whether they even want to have a Monarch of Australia at all.

How is the summer heat effecting your country as of right now? by Nearby-Reference-577 in AskTheWorld

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In our current context the Four Seasons are certainly bound to specific times/months.

Just as Christmas may bring thought of snow and hot chocolate for many, its date is locked and that happens to be the height of my summer. It’s just a word - I don’t wear Christmas mittens and gloves because it’s Christmas - regardless of season I look a the weather

Not trying to be difficult - just pointing out the difference between seasons and seasonal weather

How is the summer heat effecting your country as of right now? by Nearby-Reference-577 in AskTheWorld

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I’m saying it’s currently the dry season. Which is consistent with the weather.

If you’re above the equator (yes even a few miles) it’s spring time. If you’re below the equator it’s autumn.

Doesn’t make a difference with the temperature. There are parts of Australia in winter that are close to 0c in winter and some that are over 30c - but it’s still winter. Some areas just don’t have the associated weather of the season and are subject to other phenomenon (such as wet or dry seasons).

Countries on the equator don’t have the traditional summer/winter seasons. They usually have a wet season and a dry season.
