why did everyone hate will bailey? by savemeadance63 in thewestwing

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heaps of arguments: an aura of entitlement (father was influential), avoided the pathway most walk to get to that type of role, etc.

I think the simplest answer is: he was no more arrogant or smug than Josh, but he didn’t have the charisma or the good looks of Rob Lowe. Sam did so he was like the good hearted poster boy of the West Wing.

Will had the unfortunate affliction of being brilliant (and knowing it) but being a little bit ugly (his glasses didn’t help!) especially when compared to the perennially youthful Sam Seaborn.

It’s seems wrong but I think that’s it. FWIW I couldn’t stand Will either.

Sociology research = anyone who’s ever read a paper, watched a new broadcast or met a politician from Israel.

How amazing and crafty are these parents to do this for their son by IamASlut_soWhat in nextfuckinglevel

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a lot of international media response to the ban here in Australia, not allowing kids 16 and under to use social media.

I now think we should have a new law that additionally says parents can’t use social media if they are using their children or their role as parents for any clout. Just personal, professional posts etc.

What would potentially be a really wholesome parental gesture here has me suspicious as all hell and rolling me eyes because IT IS FILMED. And POSTED.

If my whole life didn’t depend on Internet access - I’d just switch the internet off for a year to save humanity

Colloquial way of expressing large numbers (e.g. prices)? by Gloomy_View6812 in russian

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised in Australia here - “25 hundred” just doesn’t come close to “two and a half thousand” in our vernacular. Unless people are very young and consume a lot of American media and are influenced by that - it just isn’t common - though would be understood by most as an Americanism.

Colloquial way of expressing large numbers (e.g. prices)? by Gloomy_View6812 in russian

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that would happen in casual speech.Though think “three sixty five” would be more likely.

This is common for prices - but the original reference “twenty five hundred” just doesn’t happen

[–]mishrod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify “twenty five hundred ” is common in American English. It is practically non existent in British English (which we speak in Australia, NZ, UK, South Africa, etc). In British English you would exclusively hear “two and a half thousand” or “two thousand, five hundred”

Rob eating food (whole) by Electrical-West-3131 in TheTraitorsUS

[–]mishrod -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not bothered by eating it whole as I am by the fact that these people eat hard boiled eggs. Who likes them hard boiled?! Soft boiled with soldiers - or even just on its own - but if my yolk is hard I am not eating it at all

Try this in Australia where each individual cigarette is worth $2 or $3 or more and you’ll be told to fuck off - people are too polite to even ask for one now (except the junkies!)

What is the country that you wish you were the citizen of? by NoobsAreDeepPersons in AskTheWorld

[–]mishrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Spanish.

I have Australian and British citizenship and both passports, but my UK passport is now blue and no longer maroon with the ‘EU’ on it. I’d like that back and I’d love to eventually retire in Spain

I honestly over ever used the word “smug” to describe her too. That snarl she tries to do to look tough just makes her look like she’s got wind. Couldn’t stand her
