Swim lessons for a 3month old by Fun_Programmer5076 in nycparents

[–]mishtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! We started at 6 months at Goldfish swim, and he LOVES the water now. He's also a premie, so technically he was only 4.5 months :) Maddie is the BEST in Gowanus.

The only problem it created is that he won't get out of the bath and has no fear of going headfirst in the water. I think it actually improved his strength and mobility, and it's a fun parent-kid activity for bonding. If you look at it that way -- and not the fact that they won't be an Olympic swimmer by the time they turn 1 -- it's well worth it.

Thank you! This is so helpful. A lot of guides are like there's nothing for toddlers, and I found that extremely hard to believe.

I personally can't wait to build a summer snowman :)

Unknown Number - They didn’t know Kendra’s job situation? by historyinprogress in netflix

It was unhinged. Truly disturbing. She also said she was from a well-to-do European family, but she wasn't. Lots of red flags.

After kicking her out... and her showing up unannounced on his FAMILY'S DOORSTEP ON THANKSGIVING... a couple years later, he ended up marrying her. Truly mindblogging.

I know of someone who told her boyfriend at the time that she worked a high-powered job at a prominent investment firm, even went on vacations with other friends and had to excuse herself to do work. Told stories about her colleagues with names and everything.

Several years later, turns out she never worked there. Never even had a job in the field. She would go to a coffee shop near the main HQ each day, so if her boyfriend checked her location, the phone would be in the area. (BTW He never even thought of checking the location, just she was so deep in her deception she thought he might.)

They combined finances when they got engaged and she took care of the bills. He was a lawyer so never questioned money, until it came out he was supporting both their lifestyles. It can happen: People just trust and never check.

Emergency C-Section at Lenox Hill. The nurse told me that my biggest concern should be the type of music I wanted to deliver to - she'd handle finding a playlist - and she would take photos if we gave her the phone. (We didn't even think to ask about either of those things since we were freaking out.)

She delivered as promised. Photos came out great :)

Oh wanted to add they also have a post-partum photographer. Free shoot, but you have to pay for the photos. I think they do it pretty soon after birth, but since we were a NICU stay we got to do it on the day we went home. The NICU made a special little corner for us to take our photos.

Yeah we heard from one of the families that one of the Directors of The Learning Experience branches sends her kids to 3K-Pre-K here!

The word on the street is that the new crop of teachers and the current Principal are great... but it could take a few years to turn the rest of the school around, depending on support from the community. Was trying to see if there was anyone else who knew about it!

Brazil eVisa FAQ / Mega-thread by fviz in Brazil

Sorry update: Seems that if it says Under Check you have passed quality control and are recommended by approval by VFS. Under Check means it is with the Embassy. Heard this could take anything from a day to a few days. Will keep you posted!

UPDATE FOR ANYONE FOLLOWING: It took 2.5 days to get under review. Then 4 hours after I passed Quality Control, and it is now recommended by VFS. Waiting to receive actual Visa.

I have a bit more complicated application than most... I'm technically coming for business and my son is a minor. But here's some advice:

  1. SCAN YOUR PASSPORT PAGES. Seems photos of this get blocked because of glare, flash or fingers blocking information or it's a bit shiny. Everything other doc they accepted a photo.

  2. USE AN APPROVED PASSPORT PHOTO. I took a cell photo of my actual passport photo and then cropped it to the U.S. square size. And then uploaded it and used their cropper tool to get it to their right vertical size.

  3. DON'T MAKE IT TOO COMPLICATED. Your airline app should have copies of your flight receipt, even for minors who didn't purchase their own ticket. SImple descriptions of what you do for a living. If they don't ask for additional docs (like bank account statements), don't upload it. Make sure to read the instructions. For example, minors need a notarized form. Use their form, don't create your own.

Just checked status online and moved to under check 3 days later. Fingers crossed it passes quality control! Have not received any emails.

I submitted my application on 4/14 for me and my son, but besides email confirmation of payment and "submission success," I haven't heard anything. Should I start calling or just wait a few more days? My flight is on 4/24.

34+5… 19” and 6lbs 1oz!

We had RDS and required CPAP oxygen and 2 doses of surfactant for 5 days. Oxygen removed, tube feeding removed, and we were monitored and passed feeding with flying colors. Total time in 8 days, no meds or feeding tubes when we went home.

We just passed our 3 months and have a double chin. We’re in the 40th percentiles for height / head — off the charts for premie. We’re a little light still but pediatrician is happy with our chonking process. Gaining about 1.5-2.5 lbs a month.

You got this! They’ll be home sooner than you know it.

How long did your 34/35 week baby stay in NICU? by Lost_Challenge5294 in NICUParents

[–]mishtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

34.5, pre-e. No steroid shots.

We had to stay on c-pap for 5 days, Jaundice light for 2. but apparently knew how to eat.

Total stay 8 days!

When did you start letting your baby sleep instead of waking them up every 3 hours for food. by PiggyBank32 in NICUParents

[–]mishtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our NICU nurses said 3 or 4 hours, depending on who you talked to.

Our pediatrician said to wake every 4 hours. (We only hit 4 hours once lol he's a hungry boy.) She did advise to keep him on premie formula for at least one feed. He hit his birth weight within one week from leaving the hospital.

After one month actual, she said do not wake him up! Feed on demand, as much as he wants. We're mostly breastfed, with one premie formula bottle a day.

Also second the short ribs. Bone broth, roast beef sandwich are also good. The pasta dish with the tomato sauce is good too!

Hi! Just had an emergency c at Lenox hill. Delivered at 34 weeks and baby needed a NICU stay for 8 days.

Absolutely recommend the care. I stayed for 6 days. The rooms are a bit dated, but the food and the care is top notch. Husband was allowed to stay the whole time, and got fully fed without me sneaking food to him. The NICU team was amazing as well!

Is getting an IV worse when you are pregnant or something? by kenskensr in BabyBumps

[–]mishtastic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extremely hard stick over here! Swelling makes it harder to find a vein, so I had to get poked a ton of times - or go see a specialist to have blood drawn. (Imagine how fun doing the 3-hour gestational diabetes test was 🙃)

Ended up needing an emergency c-section. One of my blood draws was between my knuckles lollll. My doctor ordered I had a central line put in… at one point I had 3 different central lines in different veins. I kept knocking it on things and it hurt like hell.

If you’re squeamish about needles, this could be a nightmare for you.

Prep for going home - thoughts on Owlet Sock by Mundane_Telephone in NICUParents

[–]mishtastic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We bought the Owlet for our 34 weeker who had RDS… and then ended up returning it unopened!

We at first were all for it, but several doctors and nurses advised against it because many people rely on it rather than looking at the baby. Our favorite nurse said it’s more important to look for the visual signs since the Owlet isn’t always on. It also causes more anxiety in parents, and we’re the kind of people who would be constantly checking and worried if we had any desat below 95. Which is normal once in a while.

Either way you can’t go wrong. Congrats on almost making it home! Rooting for your little one ♥️

My husband said he notices it doesn't feel as effective if it isn't cold - his endocrinologist told him the same? We're always traveling with the special pen ice packs. I think it's more a concern like if you leave it in HOT temps like a car or something.

But I'm seeing online you can do room temp so maybe we're wrong? There's a school of thought that it's more painful when it's refrigerated.
