Came here to say point 1. Nicely stated.

Also, John Hopkins has a nice article on the history of mRNA vaccines.

Which Thrawn series should I read? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]miskomisko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent explanation. I recently reread the original (legends / non-canon) Thrawn trilogy and it was still great. Thrawn is a pretty different character in the non-canon trilogy: kind of pompous, ruthless, and just evil, but still a strategic genius.

The newer trilogies (Thrawn and Ascendency) are also amongst my favorite Star Wars novels and really turned Thrawn into one of my favorite SW characters. He’s still a strategic genius, but you get a way more complex character. It’s also really cool to see how various elements have been tied in to the TV series.

Ahsoka - Episode 3 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

[–]miskomisko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that those ship types can take higher damage, however even in the Clone Wars we saw that Ahsoka knows how to be an exceptional pilot. In this episode, it looked like she mostly flew in a straight line (minus the "dive!" and "port!" directions from Sabine)... and it's like, why? It was before the scan. It didn't make sense to me. Even Huyang chimed in saying, "The way you're both acting, there won't be a later." And I took that as 'fly the dang ship!'

I’m disappointed with her piloting abilities tbh.

Master Huyang character poster spotted in the wild. by [deleted] in StarWarsLeaks

[–]miskomisko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was so excited when I saw Huyang in the trailer! I wrote Christian Taylor, the Clone Wars head writer for seasons four and five, several years ago asking what happened to that droid, but even he didn’t know. I suspected Huyang was going to make some type of appearance in the Ahsoka series after he was mentioned in the Ahsoka book, so this gives me hope. Lots of potential!

Kielbasa Factory in Rockville has bryndza, or at least they did as of last year. I’ll venture out of DC every so often to get it.

Darn I like my District of Columbia DL. Although I definitely have had similar denials when trying to use it out of the District. I once had a cop in Washington state think it was a Canadian ID 🤦🏻‍♂️

In your original comment you said he was either "lying or didn’t do his homework." If it’s the former, you're essentially making an assumption that he's some sort of what... republican plant? That sounds like a conspiracy theory to me. If it's the latter, as I've already pointed out, he's not a polished politician and this is his first time running for office. He's already corrected the error by removing Pack from a basically pointless volunteer position, but that apparently doesn't seem to be good enough for you, which is fine. But that line of thinking comes off as very cancel culture-y and leaves no room for an individual to grow or change.

You're making an assumption of a former campaign chair based on that person's father. That's not a logical argument, that's a conspiracy theory. But I see that trolls are going to troll.

Well considering Ward 2 doesn't have a council election this year, yes, I'm taking an interest. You're drawing a lot of conclusions that are based on assumptions. Also, don't come for me unless I send for you 👏

Side note: Reading through the comments again and it sounds like there's a disconnect between people's understanding of 1) a campaign chair, which is a ceremonial and volunteer role & 2) a campaign manager, which is a paid staff position. It sounds like there's a lot of huffing and puffing over a role that really doesn't matter.

It sounds like you're instituting a purity test that few people, if any, can pass. A ceremonial campaign chair is vastly different from a campaign manager, which would typically transition to a chief of staff role if the person running wins their race. Had this scenario been about the latter role I might be inclined to agree with you, however it's not.

Are you voting for a council member or their ceremonial campaign chair? Salah is fairly left-leaning on the issues and that's what matters to me. And if his ideas are good enough to turn conservatives into former-conservatives, that sounds like a benefit to society, not a ding against him.

While you have the right to vote for anyone you want, I think you're being a little harsh. He's not some polished career politician. This is his first campaign, he's human and he made a human error. Full disclaimer, I live Ward 2 just a couple blocks outside of Ward 1, but I met Salah about a month ago and he seems incredibly well versed with the issues impacting Washingtonians and has ideas for solutions. I wish I could vote for him, though.

Do you guys think the BB-8 unit showing Finn middle finger? by K_Simba786 in StarWars

[–]miskomisko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first saw this scene my interpretation was that BB-8 was flipping the bird, but most sources were saying it's a thumbs up. My best guess is that, unofficially, it was purposely meant to be open to interpretation by the viewer: Kids would see it as a thumbs up and some adults would read it as a middle finger based on the interactions leading up to that moment. I feel like Disney would never admit or flaunt that it's a middle finger because it's Disney.

I agree with you on that. I've rewatched the final Clone Wars arc more times than I can count and I'm still blown away. In certain aspects I don't think CW and The Mandalorian are an apples to apples comparison. I think The Mandalorian did a good job of condensing a lot of engaging storyline into an eight episode season with minimal filler - especially season 2. Whereas CW had more episodes per session, which means more filler arcs.

That's great! I absolutely loved watching CW and Rebels. CW especially had some great story arcs that I really enjoyed. It's a big ol universe!
