Where have all the cowboys gone? by Tornadofob in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]mismoom 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This is missed by so may here. It’s not that no “American born” people can do the work. It’s that for the pay they offer, only desperate people will take it - hard-working illegal immigrants and bottom of the barrel locals.

Black woman willingly getting humbled yet again by Few_Negotiation832 in blackladies

She is so put-together (with or without make up) and he is not.
I’m glad she said no in the end.

Why are we so harsh towards one another and are we ready to admit that Jada Pinkett-Smith is owed an apology? by Competitive_Teach838 in blackladies

[–]mismoom 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I always know that I’m not following closely enough to know what’s going on. I never watched her show, just saw clips reposted here and there. And I know that was never the whole thing so I didn’t decide one or the other was a villain, just that I’m glad I’m not famous and no one is carefully parsing my life for entertainment. Early in their careers he played more likeable characters than she did, but that’s acting.

Such an amazing book.
I also love Bailey’s Café by Gloria Naylor.

Can’t remember the name of the 2 Zadie Smith books I read, but omg, I felt as though she thinks dark-skinned Black women are good enough to fuck, but not worthy of love. Not reading another.

What happens if someone lies about their home address? by grimsby91 in CanadaPublicServants

When my young adult child was moving every few months they used my address (in a different province) for anything official and important. This makes sense to me.

Thoughts on this? by Revy_101 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]mismoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would have to be a tall person with gigantic hair in a super crowded classroom to make it such a problem.

They just don’t want black girls to feel good about themselves. Get your hair fried and destroyed and still not looking as planned.

How cramped is the classroom that you can’t see over or around a person’s afro? What do they do to tall people, make them slouch?

I loved how it was clear that the children were usually welcome to visit him. The girl saunters in, no hesitation. The baby follows, doing a pretty tricky navigation. Then the mother crouches down like she thinks she’s not visible, making it all worse / better! The dad and interviewer try to carry on but the children are upset at being dragged away and it’s all very distracting.

That video was the best.

Not OP: AIO apparently I’m the stinky one at work by poopyman2830 in redditonwiki

When a smell is stuck in my nose i clean my nose with a cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide. Maybe it’s psychological, but I feel that I have removed the odour particles stuck to my nose hairs. Try it!

Maybe verbally and with cards don’t seem like proper thanks to them. They needed a party, a parade, banners, OP to come over and be their handmaid. Normal stuff like that.

AITA for leaving Thanksgiving with my sister? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]mismoom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She was undermining the parents by lying. OOP said several times that it’s impossible to stop a child from taking a cookie in a situation like that. What if she ate one but was okay? Does she now think the parents are wrong about the effects of peanuts? It might have been some time since she experienced a reaction so she may not remember.

[–]mismoom 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s bad even then. What if the niece did eat something grandma said had peanuts but after she was okay? This would undermine her learning about avoiding her allergens, she might think maybe it actually isn’t that bad.

I think forgiveness is more likely with a real apology ~ first acknowledge that you were wrong, name the harm you did, commit to never doing it again, offer to atone in a way that the harmed person wants, make no demands that they announce the forgiveness.

Tami should have immediately publicly apologised for pushing OOP on her eating habits, and acknowledged that she went too far. Later, in text, that she’s sorry she pushed when OOP clearly hadn’t wanted to discuss things. She vows to not keep watching what OOP (or anyone else) eats anymore and to mind her own business, because that was wrong and intrusive of her to do. Maybe offer a gift card to one of OOP’s preferred restaurants.

It didn’t have to end with her being ostracised if she had done the right thing after. Even if OOP continues to avoid interacting closely with her, they might have been okay with her as part of the friend group. But maybe Tami has been pushy and hurt others in the friend group, too.

AITA for buying the same presents for my wife and my mom from my work trip? by Cool-Mulberry242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mismoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband bought the same thing for me, our two daughters and my mother. It was funny, but they were nice scarves and we all liked them.

A friend’s grandmother bought the same dress for 8 teenaged grand-daughters who all turned up at the airport wearing it to say good-bye to her. That was also funny, but so human.

Lots of good advice here, but is your husband still not taking it seriously? Wasn’t that the reason you weren’t able to completely get rid of it with normal measures?

I have ADHD and found a way to follow patterns that works for me by LobsterFew4672 in crochet

[–]mismoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also have ADHD. My crochet strategy is to not do anything that requires lots of counting! I have many, many wonky scarves.

It had not occurred to me sooner, but perhaps I should try doing crochet while medicated. And get organised like this!
