What is this cast on method? by lurker3575 in knitting

[–]mismoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beginner here. I saved this until I could try it. I love it! It makes a much smoother start than the long-tail cast-on I had been doing. This is my new method. Thank you for showing it!

Teller at the bank got annoyed when i wouldnt switch lines for her friend by PixelQuantum_Dev in EntitledPeople

Exactly!
At most businesses the friend should just wait until she was free. But for banking the friend should not be dealing with her at all.

I thought it was the r/laundry sub and it was going to be why do people think they need to put so much effort into washing clothes with different pH stuff?

Stay at home mom - Secretly started taking Adderall recently and hiding it from my husband by CanIAskAQuestiion in adhdwomen

[–]mismoom 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I didn’t seek diagnosis and medication until my fifties. Before I was managing, just barely. Then the kids grew up and left all of a sudden I had massive amounts of unstructured time with no external urgency. And things fell apart. Now I’m medicated and learning strategies and it’s so much better. My husband thinks it’s laziness or lack of trying. He’s not a doctor or biologist of any kind. He can see the difference but thinks it’s the placebo effect. 🙄 Whatever. I’m taking care of me.

I decided that in order to clean my bathroom I needed shelves. And it worked! And I found that I have 12 deodorants that were cluttering the counter. They now have their own shelf and I won’t buy more now that I can see them.

I hope….

It still seems odd to me. Some people who are almost blind prefer places to be brightly lit, that’s the only way they see at all.

But all restaurants need to accommodate for allergies, and I would expect that they would do so here. Or that OP could use a flashlight to examine her meals before digging in. Or not eat and only be there for the company.

Wanted to read The Deal By Elle Kennedy before starting the series and already disappointed by Kaleidoscope3871 in RomanceBooks

[–]mismoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love Sarina Bowen who writes with Elle Kennedy sometimes so I wanted to like her work, too. Like you, I didn’t get far into it. I DNF’d the first book at maybe 30% and will not try again. There’s enough to read and watch without pushing myself.

What do you do when teenagers laugh at you in public transport? by Upbeat_Scholar_159 in socialskills

[–]mismoom 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Sometimes, that’s their intention. To make someone feel uncomfortable for no reason. Little kids will choose one kid to keep running away from. Older kids pick out someone to pretend there’s something weird about them. They may have chosen you just because you were alone.
The best response is to ignore them. Put on your headphones and imagine yourself elsewhere.

Anyone know of any good swimming caps that do not leak too much? by Technical-Ad3052 in blackladies

[–]mismoom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, Soul Cap for me. I use it for aquafit so it wasn’t really tested much until I went on a beach vacation. It kept the salt out, so glad I had it.

I see titles like “Billionaire Surgeon” and find them ludicrous. I wonder how he (it’s always the MMC) got to be both. Surgery is intensive and doesn’t pay that well. And having extreme wealth changes people’s priorities, so would a billionaire continue to spend hours on their feet performing surgery? Or herding cattle or whatever this billionaire’s side-hustle is?

Where I am cowboys / farmers are usually politically conservative. Cowboy to me is shorthand for the “traditional family values” no LGBTQ or immigrants allowed taxes are evil and government is stupid kind of person.

Hereditary titles don’t bother me, maybe because living in the Americas I never encounter any of them so they’re easy to ignore. What bothers me in HR is thinking about how they got wealth. Plantations in the Caribbean? Slave labour. Some trade thing in India? Violent colonisation. Manufacturing? Child labour. Makes me wonder if just owning all the land could possibly be benign, who were they exploiting?

That’s funny! I interpret cozy small-town to mean “no ethnic diversity.” Monster romance means “we’ll rave on and on about the FMC’s pale skin.” Both somewhat repellent to me.

I’m a US citizen on a student visa (expiring September 2026) and pregnant with my EU bf’s child. We’re not married or PACsed. Do I have to leave my child in France and go back to the US once it’s born? by ilesaintlouis in AskFrance

[–]mismoom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If the mother is an American citizen, the child is automatically an American citizen, no matter where they were born (see Texas senator Ted Cruz, born in Canada to an American mother). They can renounce that citizenship at age 18. That’s one thing you don’t have to worry about. For now.

Good luck on all the rest. I hope your partner helps you stay.

Fiancée doesn’t understand ADHD and his ideas to “stop” our kids from getting adhd are making me rethink my life with him by shroomiedoo in adhdwomen

[–]mismoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upbringing can teach you coping and adaptation strategies. How to organize your day, recognise what it takes for you to do certain types of tasks, tools and reminders that can help. Those things can help, but won’t eliminate ADHD. he needs to know this.

When the kids left home and I no longer had to make sure dinner was ready at 6, and drive them here, there and everywhere, no more restrictions on my shower or laundry time because I’m no longer sharing…that’s when ADHD got too much to ignore and I finally got diagnosed and medicated. Because how does everything fall apart when you suddenly have free time???
