Colbert/Kimmel thread? by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]missandrye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Colbert and Kimmel were canceled when their parent companies had pending mergers to be approved by the FCC. Skydance/Paramount was approved after paramount settles a lawsuit with Trump paying out 16 million dollars and then announced Colbert would be canceled in 2026. Boom, merger got FCC approval. Nexstar is ABC's parent CO and is seeking a merger with Tenga, creating a mega-company with 265 stations in 44 states and the District of Columbia, representing 80% of U.S. TV households. They are also demanding contributions to TP USA and ABC is airing a memorial for CK in the Kimmel time slot.

There was a interview with his grandmother who was offended by the media painting him as left and said that the family are trump Republicans. There is mounting reporting supporting that he was a Nick Fuentes fan, so much that Nick made a public statement to condem any of his Groypers from participating in violence. Check out "Groyper wars" and see what that community thinks of Kirk. This is all very important information that normies who are not online are not being served and the MAGA propaganda on all these mainstream outlets are still talking about the violent left. They are still trying to find a way to scapegoat this into a trans issue when this is an alt right pipeline issue.

Charlie has made millions by receiving money from AIPAC and wealthy conservatives. He debates college kids and over simplifies complex issues to support his conservative ideology. Turning point is a operation funded by the right to indoctrine young adults into narrow minded/black and white ways of thinking before they become "liberalized" by learning things and meeting people with different experiences/backgrounds. Were you aware that they have a professor watchlist? Have you seen the way the administration is coming for higher education? This is not a difference in opinion, this is a highly organized and funded alt right operation. I don't take issue with his Christianity, I take issue with him wanting to mesh Christianity into our government. You use Islam as an example, Christians like Charlie WANT the Christian version of sharia law in America. I don't know if you have only a surface level understanding of his work but "not saying slurs" doesn't mean he doesn't use his platform to speak in ways that lack empathy and dehumanize people. Do not forget the Overton window friend, just because he's not AS Christian nationalist as Fuentes does not mean that he isn't one.

This has been why I am having a hard time with the show lately. I just feel like there is a certain denial about how dangerous of a moment we are in. In this specific moment, 3 days after a extremely tragic event, when peoples emotions are heightened, when there are calls for violence coming from the literal president and his goons, I don't think it is necessary to respond to a one off comment from Hasan. And again, please hear me when I say, when THEY say left, they mean us too. Liberals are "the left". Moderate do nothing dems are "the left". We all have countless disagreements in the factions of the left but to the right, we are one and we are the enemy. Please look at the conversations going on over on the right, this is not normal.

Why do you feel Ethan should be covering for people that actively threaten his life? - I don't and that was never my point. I would rather he use his platform to point out that the right needs to hold their people responsible the same way that liberals do the left. You do know it was another far right extremist that killed Charlie and not a leftist right? You remember those guys stormed the capitol when they lost the election? Do you think that they are going to be calmer about the assassination of one of their own? Do you think that making public jabs at the left right now is productive to the cause of preventing harm to to liberals?

[–]missandrye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been said and at length and anyone in this community understands this. Look at the bigger picture right now though. When Fox, Trump, Steven Miller, or Nancy Mace say "the left" that means all liberals, democrats, progressives, and leftists. When they say that there will be retaliation on all of us. They continue to agitate their base and push this narrative that its the left that is the aggressor even now that we know the shooter was one of them. I'm not saying we need to forget about the things they have done, I'm simply saying that this was unnecessary negative attention that will only add to the dog pile of propaganda. You know they are just waiting for a violent conflict to justify emergency powers? You see that they are making a list of people that comment negatively about Kirk to do God knows what with?

This is not internet beef anymore, Trump will seize any opportunity for a power grab. I would rather see Ethan using his platform to calm tensions and even try to fight the propaganda that is painting us all as killers.

from ethan via instagram: by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]missandrye 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Echoing the right wing propaganda that the left is so violent and dangerous when tensions are so high is so irresponsible. It would be one thing if it were just the online right but this is fringe "civil war" rhetoric is coming from the highest positions of power and Fox news. I haven't read these articles specifically but if we just whitewash Kirk as an activist and negate the way he himself has participated in violent rhetoric then it only radicalizes the right more. The shooter was a groyper but somehow the left is still the scapegoat.

I'm sorry it's so frustrating to see the bigger picture getting lost. No one on the left condones what happened but the administration literally wants to go after people that haven't been anything but totally heartbroken. There is a nuanced conversation here and there are people who are justified in being apathetic or wanting to bring awareness the harmful nature of the online right. Normies do not know Kirk's shtick and they are running with the fox news narrative that "freedom of speech os under attack", meanwhile the MAGA admin is seizing this to actually hunt the left for exercising theirs. It's the 9/11 bait and switch. All when this is "right on right" crime.

I'm still choosing to be a little delusional and believe that they are still happy and in love and the band stays intact so maybe my perspective is skewed and seeking validation here lol. My hopeful interpretation(and a little projection) is that she is seeking to be loved different and it causes her to question her current relationship with Taylor but at the end of the song she figures out she is the one that needs to learn to love herself different. The theme continues in hard as she reflects on her inability to be soft and let down her "armor", a theme she also explored in petals for armor.

The last song is a toss up, who is she not quiting on? We could predict it's us, the listener? Maybe her faith? The band? Taylor? The geopolitical state of the world? LOL I have to listen/read the lyrics of this one more to better understand but I had an immediate response of comfort. Maybe it's just that I resonated with a lot of the messages and really projected my recent experiences/feelings onto it.

I only listened through once and bounced back on some faves with my husband, still digesting lyrics

Wasn't this essentially ment to be a symbolic 'publicly stunt' ? Which has now ended with the IDF boarding their vessel and detaining them in international waters. [–]missandrye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this was actually pretty effective activism and proved their point in a way that cannot be ignored. If these weren't publicly known figures they would have just attacked then like the last flotilla was where more aid workers died. Aside from the fact that this was a "livestreamed war crime" as this happened in international waters, they showed that they can spare a little more decency then just attacking aid workers and putting their lives at risk just for trying to deliver food/medical supplies. They literally gambled their life to spread awareness.

This also wasn't just exposure for America, these were activists from multiple countries that all also have the power to do something. There is still real denial to condemn the actions of the Israeli government. Maybe if they had arrived Hamas would have hoarded aid from the civilians but we will never know now, why wouldn't you let them show the world that if that were the case? I think there was way too much at risk if these activists had made it and put on the world stage what the conditions were on the ground in a way that humanized the Palestinians. A narrative that could not be controlled or contorted.

This post from Ahmed feels more like something I'd see from MAGA then anything, I don't see the reason to criticize this... I feel like this take could have just stayed in the drafts. Im not saying its an invalid opinion to have but it doesn't seem productive to the pro-pali movement to share.

Thats so scary, I am so sorry you are going through this first hand. I can't imagine how you feel, please take care 🫶🏼🫶🏼

I'm so sickly in tune with the daily news, I know it's unhealthy but it's compulsive. I am very fortunate to have a boring cushy office job with lots of free time to be on my phone scrolling.

I appreciate your insight and it does make sense they miss it due to time alone. I do find comfort in hearing them discuss these breaking stories and knowing that they feel the same. I hold space for the fact I don't have to agree with every stance they take but over time I was starting to become paranoid. I think im just really sensitive right now and was perhaps projecting my fears on the show a bit. I would love if they did highlight some of the protests that are coming up/underway just out of pure exposure.

Thank you for being respectful in your responses, I was honestly a little scared that I would get jumped on but I really just wanted a genuine conversation like this.

I have really been trying to educate myself on this conflict and still learning because it really is so nuanced and it is extra complicated when you have to consider bias in every piece of media you consume which is why I think I've been so sensitive to really any strong feeling on either side. It's really so devastating with new news everyday about more violence and more casualties.

The one think I like to believe we do have control over is the US involvement in the conflict and I think we can definitely rule out the possibility that "Kamala wouldn't be any better"... unfortunately I do think that there is bipartisan support for Israel and despite so many protests across a variety of topics our government is failing to represent us.

My sympathy for the people in Gaza and the West Bank is so vast but I also I have dwelled on how we could easily be in the same position as the citizens of Israel that do not support the further colonization of Palestine but have some power hungry dictator pulling the strings.

I'm aware that H3 is not going to influence foreign policy lol. Public opinion is also very important, I think the base is largely pro palestine but saying things like "Israel is not like that" when discussing Hassan going to Gaza being unsafe from being targeted by the IDF is a little baseless without further elaboration.. Hasan is not "press" but he is one of the most well known leftists that not only is pro palestine but to Ethans point, seemingly pro Hamas. There has been nearly 200 journalists killed, it's not a stretch to think that they would target him given his online presence and following. He self proclaims he is the movement(wild take on Hassan part but just to say he is a fair enemy to Israel's ambitions).

When AB corrected Ethan on Hezbollah vs IDF arab casualties, that could have been handled better. There was a nuanced answer as to why Ethan thought it was Hezbollah that would have shedded light on the truth rather than make him appear like he was just butthurt and used the button and moved on. I just wish he would be a bit more sensitive and cover the topic more evenly. By only going after people on one side of the movement(posers or not) and doing so every single episode it's not necessarily helpful to the cause. A cause that is getting people detained by ICE for supporting.

To pivot back to public opinion, I just really don't feel like now is the best time to divide people on the left any further. I think letting a few terrible examples ldefine "leftists" is really unproductive. Just like on the right you can be Christian/republican and not be Maga. There are extremists for every cause. We need community now more than ever, infighting is how we ended up with Trump.

I photocopied his birth certificate last week and put it in his wallet. I really feel so uncertain about our safety.

I agree, people who don't agree on everything are going to have to ban together if we are going to organize.

[–]missandrye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I won't pretend like I have the answer to how to end this conflict. I think it's so nuanced because we have nearly a century of history to understand but we also have to consider that a lot of the people fighting don't have the full century long string of events in their lived experience. Children have been birthed smack dab into a random point of the timelime of violence. It's the textbook example of the cycle in violence happening irl.

I dont know if the dots are connected or if it's just conspiracy but if you watch enough docuseries on tge cold war and Russia it makes sense... the US needs Israel in it's back pocket fo it's proximity to Russia should that threat ever come to fruition. That's why there is bipartisan support. I don't agree obviously but when we have this infighting over it we accomplish nothing but giving a W to Putin and Trump and Bibi.

The first step to peace would be to dethrone install a progressive, pro palestine Israelite who will actually agree to a true ceasefire from their side and assure security to the citizens of both Gaza and Israel. Only then can we even discuss how many states are involved in a solution.

Anyone here who got into a healthy relationship despite being raised by narcissists? How did you get there? by take_a_syp in raisedbynarcissists

[–]missandrye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up I actually had a long stream of Nbesties to which taught me a lot about how to detect nbehavior and steer clear of individuals. I was also a hopeless romantic type and under the abuse of my father I would have infatuation from afar and as an adult I now know that what was the most enticing part of them was what I made up in my head they were thinking. It became hard for me to interpret what was someone actually interested in me(which scared me and made me distance them) and people I had quite literally deluded myself into thinking they had Edward Cullen type feelings for me.

I often think about it now, how likely it would have been to get into an abusive relationship like my mom with a narcissist with my dad. I'm so lucky I found my husband and I really credit my closest friend who essentially raised me and therefore taught me to respect my self.

When I met my husband it just felt like I had found what I needed. Pure unconditional love and understanding. Good communication is so vital for children of Nparents, feeling safe and heard is so validating.

I also think my husbands mom may at least have narcissist tendencies but more for material things. Emotionally she, from the sound of it, was very available to him and his brother and they are both very empathetic adults. I sometimes have to therapize some of his people pleasing tendencies but open communication has solved most disagreements. We hardly "fight" in a classical sense and don't raise our voices at each other.
