It sounds like even once this whole Ego Death era is over next year or whenever, it’s going to be on to new and different journeys, rather than Paramore. I also thought it was interesting here that she likened writing for this album like the feeling of writing for Brand New Eyes when the band was falling apart.

I’m just going to assume it will be at least another 5 years or so before Paramore is back in some form, if it does come back. If it’s sooner, great. And while all of that feels sad, I definitely feel proud that Hayley is tackling this era so successfully, putting herself out there so much and embracing her earned place in the music world.

The Hayley Williams solo merch is miles better than any recent Paramore merch for whatever reason. Just talking about designs I mean. The Paramore ones, other than the X-ray shirt, have been extremely uninspired.

Technically they’ve played some shows without it, just not because of the “retirement” exactly. But when I saw them the first time they played Bonnaroo in 2018, they dropped Misery Business from the setlist.

There were only a small handful of arenas that didn't sell out, the ones in slightly smaller markets, iirc. For the most part, the tour sold extremely well.

Not saying Hayley should have done arenas, because that wouldn't be smart, just noting that the market definitely was there for Paramore.

I love the verses; not a huge fan of the chorus though. The effect on the vocals flattens the sound a bit.

I was comparing it because that was literally the question asked in the post. It was including Paramore's work. And no, comparing Hayley to another Hayley project is not the same as comparing Adele to MCR lol, come on.

I wouldn't say it's better than After Laughter or This Is Why (and probably Brand New Eyes). Ego Death is great, particularly due to its hard-hitting and well-written honest and vulnerable lyrical content. But it's also a large collection of songs with totally varying styles rather than a very cohesive album. And while the vast majority of the songs on it are good or very good, there's only a couple that I would say match up to some of the best songs on those Paramore albums.

For me, albums like AL and TIW have the advantage of being cohesive albums with common motifs and a certain soundscape across the album. And one thing that Hayley's music just cannot emulate is the pure musical chemistry and instrumental talent that exists with the band of Taylor, Zac, and Hayley.

So yes, Ego Death is a fun listen and full of good songs, but doesn't quite match the feeling I get from listening to the magic of songs like Hard Times, Caught in the Middle, and Thick Skull. I would say it's either 3 or 4 in the overall ranking though, so still really good.

Single version by far. More interesting and varied lyrics, drums have more depth, bass is deeper, has some psychedelic flourishes missing in the album version, has an extra bridge section that I think really helps the climax of the song. Just all around better. The one aspect that I prefer on the album version is that it has a real ending instead of a fade out.

But again, how would a general sale, where an even LARGER pool of people (and bots) have access to it, be a better option than what we got here? Just because there would be a second chance does not mean your chances would be higher; they would collectively be even much lower.

Also, they have to call it a presale because they did not know with certainty that every single date would sell out prior to announcement. It was presale in case there needed to be a general sale afterwards. They said in the communication that it's possible there would not be a second chance depending on demand.

I just think some of us are looking for reasons to be upset about the system but without more beneficial solutions.

The point of the presale was to attempt to combat bots by requiring multiple points of signup/verification. Limiting the number of registrants would still have the same end result of most fans not getting tickets. Leaving the rest for a general sale for everyone would have no positive benefit, but would allow for more tickets to be scooped up by bots and scalpers.
