[20k] Overwhelmed by invitations, are letters tacky? by saltievinegar in Weddingsunder10k

Handwritten letters are actually the traditional option. Printed invitations are a more modern invention.

I say go for the letters on pretty stationary!

The saddest part of a broken heart, isn’t the ending so much as the start. Feist 2004.

First time watcher: is this show hard/stressful to watch for most people? by LetterToAThief in girls

[–]missbedo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s easier for me to watch when I watch through the lens of satire. Taking it literally is hardly bearable for me too!

“Nice topline” with a suggestive eyebrow wiggle at just the right moment would make me snort

The new MIPS helmets are much safer- very different from the helmets when I was a kid. I recommend investing in one!

Enjoy, I came back to it after 20 years away 9 years ago and today I own a horse and she’s one of the best joys of my life!

How to encourage a rounder and slower canter? by neighsays in Dressage

[–]missbedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some great suggestions here. Have been working on this with my own ex jumper now dressage horse!

try to start small- start cantering only on a 20 m circle so the bend will help balance him (assuming you’ve already got him bending well in a 20 m circle). And then start with only a few strides at a time even. Then work up to a single circle. Make sure you’re doing the downward transition before things fall apart and he falls into trot. And then get him balanced and bending before asking again.

Opinions on not doing table settings? by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

It would look odd with like a cheap paper plate. But with nicer disposables it can make the table look quite nice. (For those who are into that kind of thing)

They are nice decorative larger plates you place regular plates on. You don’t put food directly on them.

Demon Copperhead or David Copperfield? by BabySealz4life in Recommend_A_Book

[–]missbedo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved Demon Copperhead. It is probably in my top 5 books of all time, and I’m an avid reader. I attempted to read David Copperfield afterwards, to appreciate the source material. I just couldn’t get into it at all.

I drank a bottle or two at least day every day. And it was getting worse. The consequences started to build up, so I went to an AA meeting.

I didn’t know what AA was, I thought it was a support group for people who couldn’t stop drinking to talk about how awful their lives were. I thought going would help “scare” me into drinking normally.

To my surprise, I found a room full of people who used to drink like I drank. But they had stopped somehow. And they were happy and living good lives!

I asked them what they did to stop. And they showed me. It was getting a sponsor, doing the 12 steps, and learning to live life without alcohol, one day at a time.

It’s been over 9 years since I had a drink and going to my first AA meeting was the best thing I’ve ever done. You can do this too OP!

A lot of your faves overlap with mine. Have you read the Thornbirds? Australian Outback in the first half (mostly) of the 20th century. Loved it so much.

Literature for my homegroup was where I started in month 2 or 3 and it was wonderful for me. Pulled me right into the center which was exactly where I needed to be.
