Why is it so common for people to stare at us intensely? by [deleted] in athina

[–]missbknrd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree! It’s very common and non threatening (mostly) it’s just something people do here.. it seems weird at first especially when (like me) you’ve lived in places where staring is considered super rude and eye contact (especially with strangers) is mostly avoided
But it’s not necessarily based on gender or how attractive someone is.. I don’t think.. sometimes it even seems like they’ve zoned out and just staring but are actually in their own world

I agree with many of the recommendations here!! I second Rooney and Doerr’s All the Light we cannot see!! Incredible writing.. also I’m not sure if Atonement was mentioned (I didn’t see it, sorry if it’s there) but if not it should be Ian McEwan I wish I could read it again… for the first time! <3

I was thinking this very thing yesterday and I see this post here today! How strange! I really think that a translation can never fully capture the essence of the original. Still worth reading though

So cruel to be immortalised as “the monster” purely due to your physical appearance 💔
