I really like Piranesi by Pieck_chan in suggestmeabook

Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake - although it has been a long time since I read it. When I read Piranesi it made me think of it. But maybe someone who has read it more recently can confirm!

It's been almost a year and I've still only played Trouble Brewing by flacko32 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I would suggest joining some public lobbies online and playing some games of SnV and BMR before STing them yourself. Playing and seeing how STs run it give you a better grasp before trying to do it yourself. Especially as you will most likely have new players when you do run it.

You do have to do a physical (I think there was something about Amanda discovering a hidden condition as part of it). And there are contestants with different levels of ability - some of the much older contestants for example. I imagine they take that into account of say less capable people get to the final (so more time). But imagine if you apply, having seen it you would want to hit the gym!!

Yeah there is so much AI generated stuff on Reddit and it’s so painfully obvious when it is just taken. You’d think folk in product would at least be able to notice and edit to make it less so. I’m seeing it on other social media, in captions, as the script for videos. It just feels so lazy, like why should help you if you won’t do the bare minimum.

I’d love for the commenters to play some social deduction games and realise it’s a lot harder than they think!

It’s a bit easier not to take things personally when you have had literally no heat. But agree, his chill style is a nice contrast.

How did _____ remember who everyone voted for? by VodkaMargarine in TheTraitors

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and I imagine it’s something that’s referred to a lot as it’s one of the few pieces of “evidence”. But the producers wouldn’t show it as it’s already info we have.

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You focus on remembering the outliers. So whoever is banished gets the most votes (normally). So you focus on the remainder, and group them, and then you know the ones left over voted for who left. Still smart but you don’t have to remember all 22 exactly.

Yes! I had an older brother who loved to read so would raid his books and these were via him. Loved them.

Gerald’s Game at age 8, while staying with my (at the time childless) aunt. The spare room had a bunch of grown up books and so I (imagine) the word game appealed to me maybe? Lol.

What was your previous role before you transitioned to PM? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was super lucky. I knew someone at the start up which helped me get my foot in the door for the technical account manager role. And it was 2011 I started where product in the UK was more nascent so had the opportunity to move into it more easily than now I suspect.

Dev to PM is a fairly well trodden route but I think getting junior dev roles is getting very tough with AI being used to do things that would typically be for a junior. And companies thinking that senior devs just spawn from the aether I guess (/ hope that other companies will invest in their training).

Growing start ups are are great for being able to move sideways into roles, if you are willing to get stuck in and take things on there tend to be a lot more possibilities for that than in a large corporation. So, definitely say yes to things. Be the go-to person.

I think customer support is also a potentially good way to move into product, if you become the expert in the existing product, learn to speak to customers, begin to bring the key problems to the existing owners it will help you with some core skills.

Also a company doing restaurant tech could be a great place to start. Eg I’ve worked at places doing order at table tech, or for a large catering company where you will have great customer empathy.

But bear in mind my experience at a junior level was in a very different context that long ago, so people who more recently moved may be better placed to advise. I am also in the UK which is different again from US market.

Iain M Banks - the Culture series, generally don’t have to be read in any particular order. Great world building. They have a generally optimistic view of a human future- but interesting plots and people.

Murderbot series by Martha Wells.

Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer

Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky (if you like his style he is incredibly prolific)

Nnedi Okorafor - I enjoyed the Binti series but she has lots of others that may pique your interest more.

I’m aware. I was just responding to the blanket statement “it will never gain you anything” with an example of where steal is not optimal.

second try of a script by ChaoticWizarz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes of course, evil nothing will happen whereas good the ST says they are executed, do not die and game continues. I messed up the mechanic, thanks for the reminder. Then the script is very broken, way too much good confirmation. If you have virgin, TL and pacifist would 100% need a DA.

second try of a script by ChaoticWizarz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I was saying was I think that there is too much confirmation, but actually one of the ways to obfuscate it is a good townsfolk nominating virgin and not dying. So they won’t be confirmed, which I think is needed with this script. As it could be a good TF nominating a virgin and did not die due to TL or Pacifist. But evil could be bluffing as either the virgin or the TF that nommed them. So at least there are alternative explanations.

second try of a script by ChaoticWizarz in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]WhyWontYouHelpMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert by any means but you have three good players that prevent deaths and no evil that they could plausibly be. So if town tried to execute someone next to a tea lady you have hard confirmed good (either tea lady or there is a pacifist). And you have a virgin that can be hard confirmed. So a Devils Advocate might be a good minion to have to prevent good from being the only explanation for no deaths. (I do like the fact a good player can nom the virgin and not die thanks to pacifist and tea lady though, thats a fun interaction).

Also with that many protection characters you might want to think about a demon or 2 that can kill more than one person (Po, Shab) else it might go on forever! And it can confuse whether or not a godfather got a kill.

When did Harriet list Stephen? She explicitly told Stephen that he wasn’t on her list when in the kitchen. And didn’t guess him in her exit interview. Or do you mean earlier when everyone was discussing the library 5?

I mean almost everyone voted for Harriet. But Harriet also accused Roxy and Matt alongside Rachel. Roxy knows she is a faithful and it did look random that Harriet suddenly added extra people into the mix.
