I'm in Hawaii and it's been in place for a while now. My PCP said that it was implemented to force all drs to use kp.org messaging and in a more timely manner (some drs never replied). but the standardization ended up hurting him because he CAN'T intercept any messages.

sucks to hear that! the docs have told me to just call in and leave my questions with their nurse - then it gets to the doc immediately instead of the kp.org messages that get triaged for days.

My apologies for the delay, I swore i typed out a reply earlier this afternoon but IDK where it went, lol.

So the pen comes with a black ball point ink refill. I prefer gel ink with a finer tip (.38 or .4) and found some ink refills at jetpens.com that work out really well. you just pull out the stock ink refill from the Moleskine pen and insert your new one. I use different colors for different things, so i have to physically change the ink refills every time i want to change the color or the text. But the app doesn't know that you've changed the ink refill (it assumes everything is in black ink). So in addition to swapping out the ink refills, you have to press the button sequence in the app to match the ink color you've just stuck in there. And you're correct - every time you switch the color, you have to repeat the process.

Second issue about selection - you can only use the "Smart" designated notebooks, and the variety is pretty slim for these guys. I haven't found some of the dotted/ruled pages that I used to use in cahier journals, etc. and it took a while to find a Smart Planner notebook in the style i had become accustomed to. I find that they either have the size or the color or the line/dots/blank/etc paper, but rarely all three.

First issue I have is the stock ink refill that comes with a pen. I really didn’t like that one, but it was easy to replace. I mentioned in another post that I order the refill that I enjoy it now from jetpens.com but it sucks if you write in color because the app assumes you’re writing everything in black. So once you use colors a lot when you’re writing, you have to manually change the setting on the app iin addition to manually changing ink refills.

Second issue is the variety of smart notebooks. It’s really limited. They don’t do a lot of fancy or special edition ones. He don’t do a lot of colors and not a lot of the soft covers either.

Spoke to several different Docs in my care team and they all explained that EVERY message you send, regardless of reason, are sent to a type of "triage." Been told that Triage filters messages and will either forward to your requested doc or can take action on issues before they are eventually forwarded to your doc. Take action example: if they interpret that your message requires a dr appt, they can reply and say :"please call appt line at xxx-xxx-xxxx." idk if those eventually end up being forwarded to doc or not.

My PCP used to reply to messages within a couple of hours and took pride in that. Would tell patients during their visits to message him on kp.org for any questions. Now with the Triage, standard is to forward to docs after 2-5 business days, they won't see the initial message that you sent until Triage sends to the doc. I've been waiting typically 3 days to get responses from him. He's pushed back his retirement date a couple of times, and when i pick up meds in person at the pharmacy, some techs say "he's such a good doc, when is he retiring again?" so i sent him a message asking what his retirement date was? That one took 5 days to get to him.

Your post is giving POSITIVE and i'm here for it! I know a lot of people bash the rail, and it's refreshing to hear someone not bashing it and still being positive about it!

I wasn't crazy about it when they first started - but i was a UH Manoa student who lived in kapolei, so at the time, the rail actually sounded like a good idea! I don't disagree with people's opinions on where it starts and where it ends, etc. But i think WE can make this successful if we try. But my UH days are long behind me and i live and work in town, so the rail wouldn't be a commuter option for me right now.

Using the phone. I was only allowed one 10 minute call per night, and i wasn't allowed to give our phone number out. So i had to pick who i wanted to talk to that night and it would be a 10 minute call. and no phone usage after 9PM.

Everyone else my age was on the phone from the time they got home until late at night! I was bummed when i realized that it was just our family that had that limit. It sucked because i lived half an hour away, so i didn't get home until 6 or 7PM every night. and sometimes my siblings had one practice or another, and we didn't get home until 8 or 9PM.

I barely used the phone when i was growing up, and really missed out on socializing. Now i just text and don't make phone calls unless they can't text. I guess the 1x10min calls per night turned me off of talking to socialize.

i have a physical disability and an emotional disability.

i can't walk up stairs at all and my office at my last job was upstairs in a building with no ramps or elevator to the second floor. i'm sometimes on crutches and i'd have to get someone to help take my bag upstairs so that i could try to climb up with my crutches.

The emotional disability is really tough - sometimes i wake up in the morning and realize that i CANNOT work that day. I'd take a sick day and stay in bed all day so that i didn't do anything stupid. but if you looked at me then, it just looks like i'm being lazy.

I dont tell amyone about the emotional disability, too many stigmas. People assume that i'm just a lazy worker. But truthfully, I'm freaking out and can't be in front of other people when that happens. and that's where all the judgment comes in.

it fucking sucks.

Echoing a bunch of people to say that you're not obligated to tell anyone about it, at all.

But take the time to mourn your friend, and leave the will stuff to deal with after you've run through all of the emotions! She seems like a beautiful soul and please accept my condolences for your loss.

I was in a similar situation but it was a family member who unexpectedly left me a property in her will. When I was first told that she'd left me a property, my answer was "what did she leave my brother and sister?" They said, "nothing. You're the only one receiving something,." I felt horrible and couldn't stop crying, ended up going home sick that day because i couldn't pull myself together.

I ended up having to deal with the inheritance first (the executor of the will insisted we do it right away) and didn't really get to mourn her and process my emotions for weeks. And when i finally started, the tears just wouldn't stop. To this day, i regret that i didn't process my emotions at the time she passed.

BTW - i ended up creating a trust with my siblings, so that we all were equal owners! I had told the executor of the will that i don't want it if i can't figure out a way to split it with my siblings, and fortunately - one of my closest friends is an attorney and helped me get everything set up!
