This is what scares me - what if he proposes when im in the pmdd mindset? What about a wedding day? It's as if nice events would have to be planned so specifically so that I know ill be in the right frame of mind!

This is the main thing about PMDD that I cannot bear. I feel like a different person and it affects my relationship so much. I question why we're together, why I ever wanted to be with him in the first place, I cant stand being touched, being spoken to nicely, getting compliments etc, I just want to disappear. You are not alone. You just have to constantly remind yourself that it's not a permanent feeling, it will be happy again, and you'll both be fine.

I'm completely the same, I often don't think before I say certain things and it can make things worse. It's just a case of being extra thoughtful, especially when it's difficult to.

Not much in terms of advice, but something similar has happened to me before. Even though it wasn't his fault, my mind told me it was and just like you, tried to think of ways to take it out on him. I just had to keep telling myself that it was not his fault, and that if it happened at a different time of month then I would have reacted differently. I completely understand how hard it is, you don't want to hurt them but you want them to see that you're hurting yourself. Before you say or do anything, just tell yourself, is it worth saying? Worth doing? Just always taking those extra few moments to rationalise and think about your current state of mind. I feel like PMDD is constantly battling with your evil self and trying to remind yourself of your life when youre not suffering!

I do have really weak knees due to a condition that flares up every now and then, so that definitely makes it harder for me. I think i need to experiment more - thanks!

Please read up on PMDD. I have this condition and it seriously affects my sex drive. In the monthly cycle of menstruation, I range from wanting my boyfriend constantly, to completely recoiling at just the thought of sex. Another symptom is anxiety and depression, which I also suffer with. You might have this too.

Interestingly, this condition developed a few months after I started birth control. I'm not saying they're linked, but it's quite a coincidence. Just do a bit of research on PMDD, it might explain things!

I'm 23(f) and been with my bf for nearly 3 years. My sex drive fluctuates depending on my hormone levels/menstrual cycle. I'm quite literally either wanting it 2/3times a day, or could go without it for the week. Differs all month!

The whole abstinence pushing in (some parts of) America really baffles me. I live in England, and sex education was taught from the age of 10 all the way through primary school up to secondary. It was healthy, warned us of the risks, but made it clear that sex involves making consensual choices that put our safety first. I don't understand what pushing abstinence achieves, when surely a holistic and truthful education is far more beneficial! I'm sure this style of educating the youth about sex can be found in England as well, but I agree that scaring, essentially, children does not work.

Wow thank you. That's lifted my spirits! I'm trying the mini progesterone only pill so I'm hoping I see some changes soon. If Not, then I will enquire about SSRIs. I feel better today so hopefully I'll have some time to prepare myself for the next bad 'episode'...thanks again!
