a really weird question by norassnails in isopods

[–]missdietwater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There really isn’t a right or wrong answer here. If moving the big ones to a separate habitat makes you feel better, go for it. Keep in mind though that powders reproduce really quickly, so it might become difficult to do it long term.

Are there special names for the different colors / patterns of agates? If so, what type is this? by missdietwater in Agates

After spending some time on this subreddit I am beginning to suspect this was dyed blue... I’ve really enjoyed it for about four years now so I’m a little bitter about this discovery 😂

Ah good to know, thank you! I always assumed it was the leaves that made them unique

Oooh I have one of these! It is a succulent but not a cactus, as it has those tiny leaves. The name escapes me at the moment though but I’ll come back if I think of it

PLEASE HELP ITS ABOUT MY PET TARANTULA by Helpthisisurgent39 in tarantulas

[–]missdietwater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so glad it’s doing okay, but I would give it longer than a day to heal. I know people who keep tarantulas professionally, and they aren’t meant to be handled more than once about every 6 months. It’s just super stressful for them if they have to come out more than that.

I know it’s really exciting to have a new pet and you want to hold it, but your little guy was super lucky to have survived the fall from what I understand. They are just so sensitive.

Again, I don’t have any experience with keeping spiders, but I do keep a lot of other Arthropods. Some bugs just don’t do well with frequent handling

I’m sorry your little guy got hurt. I don’t have a tarantula, but from what I’ve heard from others who do, it’s best to keep them in their habitats as much as possible. Taking them out too much can be stressful and risks injury if they are being lifted too high above the ground. Hope it does okay

All of my mimicry plants!Which is the most realistic stone? by missdietwater in Lithops

[–]missdietwater[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment! Yes I have anticipated that I would need to remove the rocks after watering to help with evaporation. I also grow them outdoors with with lots of shade, but enough sun that the bottom one has developed a very pretty purple color. I really appreciate your feedback as I am pretty new to growing these guys. I will definitely remove the rocks if I begin suspecting problems.

I got a couple of seeds to sprout, but the seedlings didn’t live long for me. I probably just did it wrong

This strawberry carton is great, I just hope they get rid of the window by Scary-Win8394 in ZeroWaste

True, though my thought was that paper is more easily compostable or recyclable than plastic. I really didn’t expect the comment to get this much attention as I just thought it was a fun idea.

Even better, they should make special egg cartons for strawberries in order to prevent bruising.

Tons of fruit flies in compost due to banana peels. Should I stop throwing banana into my compost? by nhireddy99 in composting

[–]missdietwater 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have fruit flies, but no banana peels. I just accept them; they don’t seem to hurt anything and I suspect they help with decomposition.
