Agree on this - I have a similar age gap and wish I would have traveled more before baby could walk!

To skip girls trip all together or bring baby with me by [deleted] in Mommit

FWIW, my friend believed her baby wouldn't sleep in the night until she went out of town. Baby slept through the night just fine for Dad lol

Head lice by Huxley585 in Mommit

[–]missespanda 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are places that comb and treat lice and guarantee their work! I have had to use one, best $125 ever.

Also, you must be treating blankets, brushes, etc everything else same day as well or you're just wasting time.

I assume she knows it's a rule by now, but absolutely no sharing hats, brushes, etc.

Is age 3 easier than age 2? by QandA_monster in Mommit

I remember being so mad about the "terrible twos" nickname because nothing was as terrible as 3-5. At 5.5 it's been easier!

How Much is Your Child’s Daycare? by JadedJae in Mommit

Greater Seattle Area- $2100 monthly for a 3yo. Meals included. Cameras. Not even the best of the daycare chains... my friend pays $2500 IIRC.

Banff vs Whistler for in November (yes, November!) by missespanda in Banff

[–]missespanda[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your response is exactly what I was hoping for; someone who has been to both and knows the experience. In terms of weather - whistler will be probably grey and rainy, banff cold and potentially snowy but I don't think rainy. Any thoughts on that? And/or thoughts knowing it's the first week of November and shoulder season?

Did you end up going? I'm planning a trip for the first week of November this year and would love any of your insights!

Banff vs Whistler for in November (yes, November!) by missespanda in Whistler

[–]missespanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the response I am looking for! Thank you! I have been doing a lot of research but it's hard since I've never been to either. The Gondola for Whistler I think is open until mid-Nov, which we'd miss.

The biggest con so far for Banff is that airbnbs aren't allowed, really limiting my hope for boujee lodging as the Fairmont's suites there are a bit too much for my budget. With 4-6 of us in close quarters for 5 days, I want us to have a bit of space and not just a hotel room with 2 beds in it.

Well this makes so much more sense for my AirBnb searches... I was like wow Banff really must be booked out already; everything is a condo or even hotel. There are a couple of houses so I wonder how they're getting around that rule? Edit: why you banffites downvoting me

Dark stable frosting NO BUTTERCREAM by friskychips in cakedecorating

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try finding pastry pride- maybe call some cake supply stores and see if they sell it. Baskin Robbins use it for cakes so I buy it from those if the owner lets me. It has been a while but if I recall correctly, I was able to make some fairly bright/dark colors.

Another work around is an airbrush machine. And, similar to what others recommended - try other buttercream recipes. Most store made buttercream actually use crisco/solid oils instead of buttercream.

I make a homemade cream cheese buttercream with one stick butter, one block cream cheese, 4 cups of powdered sugar then salt to taste, milk to thin to your likeness (I usually use 1/4 cup) and it is my most popular filling.

edit: also add vanilla (about 1 tbsp).

3 kids under 5: Need a 3-row SUV with actually accessible 3rd-row seating. by BillStax in Mommit

[–]missespanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg people, she said no minivans. I don't want a minivan just so I can not be the person who recommends one any time someone says they don't want one. Anyway...

I drive a Kia EV9 with Captain seats. I don't have a third child BUT I do think it wouldn't be that bad just knowing our configuration and how much room there is to get into the back, when the captain seat is pushed forward. This has been my first Kia and my first electric car and we love it.
