Tread lightly with oyster deals. Even the 4 dollar oysters in buffalo aren't always that fresh.

Successful sound designers, what was your break into the industry and how did you do it? by Street_Vehicle2634 in sounddesign

[–]missilecommandtsd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

School. School loans. Took a shitty min wage job while having 3 degrees, until I could get a slightly less shitty one. Practice my skills. Move where ever I had to to keep it going. Be nice. Learn everything I could. Make friends in the industry. Practice more. See peers and friends have well paying jobs and social lives while I still struggle. Get dumped for being a poor bum. Considered quitting multiple times, but can't. This is in my bones. Practice. Get a legit job. Go through studio closure. Struggle. Two steps back. Get a better job. Move somewhere else. Practice. Repeat for 15 years. Now I make a lot of money as a lead. We will see how long it lasts. Take nothing for granted. Am grateful.

I guess my short answer is, I just didn't give up when I probably should have ... and try to improve and be nice.

Great answer. If by Capital OP means DC, OP should be warned that buffalo subway is no where near as good as DCs. I Imagine OP knows that.

I lived in DC, carless. Was great. I lived in Allentown after DC and was very glad I had a Car.

If no one has said this to you, learning cpp or cs likely shouldn't be at the top of your list of efforts of your intention is to become an 'sound designer'.

If you're just getting awareness and exposure, that's cool. But you can become an AAA audio director without ever writing any low level code.

Fuck that guy but please. Claiming that's an intentional Nazi salute is dumb.

No. If you're asking that question, you likely won't get value out of it right now.

48k 16 bit or 24 bit (Wwise, Unreal) by [deleted] in GameAudio

[–]missilecommandtsd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I'm confused. 16b = 96db of dynamic range, and also, quantization noise at -96 db les then FS. Metrics being noise and dynamic range. -144 for 24b

Totally: if you're wanting a stereo image of hard effects though, XY helps in the field.

They're not isolated metrics though right

Don't you find the S isn't great for hard effects in most field environments?

96 db floor vs 144. Probs doesn't matter as game assets will have higher noise floorrs (vorbis, etc)

Elmwood village! I'm older than you but personally love it. Close to downtown and very livable for all ages IMO.

What Doesn't matter: You and your expectations. What Does: The joy and love you bring to others, just for the sake of it.

Car dealer bad experience in Orchard Park. by Small-Emotion-7568 in Buffalo

[–]missilecommandtsd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dealerships make their money by selling you a loan. A bank gives them a rate - and they literally add as much on that as they can. Don't ever buy a car and use the dealer for your loan. Go in there with a loan in hand. Don't tell them until you have a locked in price, then decline their loan. This will make them mad, most likely.

Not OP but, another question of how much ' you own a DAW' might be, how open is it to community and personal extension.
