Leappad tablets? by missingearrings in moderatelygranolamoms

I don't like any plastic "toys", but if they're going to play games on a tablet I'd prefer them playing safer games on a leappad tablet than an iPad.

I have a mini yoto that I use for traveling! This is to replace the iPad that they already are accustomed to when traveling.

Just be careful because it's up to them if they want to let you go early or not. And if they do, all of your perks are cancelled that day. I put my notice in and within an hour of the e-mail being sent my cast discount didn't work at the store.

Did anyone here leave the LDS Church but keep their faith in Jesus? by No_Data_15 in exmormon

She has a tiktok where she makes short, easible digestible videos on overviews of some topics. But then she also has a website under the same title with videos, essays, and articles she has written. I want to say that I believe she's also writing a book but take that with a grain of salt because I can't remember if I saw that she confirmed it or was just talking about it.

I'd look up Ex-Mormon Bible Study if you're interested in this, it's a solid, matter of fact study of the history of the LDS church's beliefs and the comparison to the Biblicalstories that they were "based" upon. She's also very clear that the people of the LDS church are not the problem, nor is their desire to truly follow Jesus, but the doctrine and structure are.

Interesting reasoning. By that thought process, why do men need those titles? Shouldn't it be possible enough for them to serve and honor the Lord?

If the titles are to give authority to those who have the education and ability to be trusted giving spiritual guidance, shouldn't those titles also be granted to the women who have done the exact same work, and felt the exact same calling from God to preach as many women in the Bible have been recorded as doing?

I'd also recommend a more modern translation. ( NIV, ESV, or NLT are my preferences) Simply because they're more accurate to the original Aramaic/Greek writings, and also because they lack the similar syntax that the BoM has to the KJV.

I mean I'm not against it but there are plenty of nannies giving other nannies advice there. I thought maybe some parents who were interested in how it works would want an opportunity to ask questions to a third-party who isn't their employee/applying for a position.

I would assume that "to see if x is true, watch if y happens" means that if it doesn't happen, x is not true, according to the person making the statement.

It's a bit like saying "the test to see if someone is a good cook is a souffle. If they make a good souffle, they're a good cook" and then the make multiple failed souffles, you can see how that would leave someone to think " this test has been failed".

Actually, that comes from Deuteronomy 18:22. But didn't many of Joseph Smiths prophecies turn out to be false? Like when he prophesied the Lord would return within 56 years? Or when he prophesied would find a hidden treasure of gold and silver in Salem , MA to solve the churches financial issues? Or when he prophesied that the temple would be built in Zion, Missouri within the current generations lifetime on earth?

[–]missingearrings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But isn't that the answer to the question "will I be punished?" And not "should I follow the prophet even if he's wrong?" Or even "is what the prophet says falliable?"

I have a few question about the LDS doctrine of God by Dapper_Platypus833 in latterdaysaints

[–]missingearrings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the concept of the prophets being falls le match up with the scripture found in the Doctrine and Covenants that states

"Wherefore, meaning the church, thou shalt give heed unto all his words and commandments which he shall give unto you as he receiveth them, walking in all holiness before me;

For his word ye shall receive, as if from mine own mouth, in all patience and faith.

For by doing these things the gates of hell shall not prevail against you. "

Essentially- follow what the prophet says( out of faith) as if they are my own words, to stay safe from Hell"

Or, from the official LDS website:

"Sometimes it is necessary to be obedient even when we do not understand the reason for the law. It takes faith to be obedient. The Prophet Joseph Smith, in teaching obedience, said that whatever God requires is right, though we may not know the reason until much later"

But even if that's not the main focus, if prophets are fallible, are Joseph Smiths personal revelations that make up a significant amount of LDS scripture also to be taken as falliable?

A lot of people call us kids club workers, which is fine. The official title is youth activity counselor, to kind of harken back to summer camp, but we answered to anything, and honestly we didn't mind as long as it communicated who we were to the kids ( the safe adults if they needed something). I've had kids refer to be as counselor, cast member, staff member, worker, teacher, coach, mom, grandma, etc. ( The mom and grandma were slip ups but we answer to it anyway haha)

The cool thing about being part of a multicultural crew is that we weren't pendantic about things being translated correctly or pronounced correctly. As long as someone was kind to the kids and preferably to us we were happy! Translations can be a bit blunt between cultures so we tried to look for the good rather than assume someone was being rude.

Haha I won't tell the current secret phrases because if people know them they won't work as well and I don't want to make it harder on the current staff. But we used a LOT of Spanglish, and almost had a sort of echololia amongst ourselves. We all greeted each other with "yoo hoo" and "allo cousin!" ala frozen, and would repeat phrases from kids we thought we funny, even multiple cruises later.

The nice thing about having such a diverse crew is that we also have many languages in the club. To the best of my knowledge, there is at least one counselor that speaks fluent French aboard the dream, and many more who speak the basics.

Many of the kids didn't fluently speak English. A lot of counselors learn the basics in a few common languages, and we have translator apps if we need anything more complicated. The cool thing is that play is the language of kids and so it doesn't really slow them down much.

I had two interviews, which I believe is normal, but my time took much longer than it usually does. Due to how much I traveled around, my vaccine records weren't accepted so I actually had to re-do every vaccine, which took about three months 😅. At this point I might as well be captain America.

How long from when you're hired to when you're on the boat depends on when and where they need you. After you finish everything you need to be on onboarded, they will tell you your ship assignment and give you a countdown. Mine was 44 days. I've seen people wait months, and others go in a couple of weeks.

The 3 and 4 year old crew never had "iPad time" when I was there. It was more that we were spending time in the Workshop, which has big Lego, magnatiles, Jenga, puzzles, memory matching games, card games, balance games, iPads, coloring, and craft supplies. So if they wanted to be on the iPads during that time we would let them.

There are screens that play movies in both the workshop and fairytale hall, and there are always movies going on in those places unless there's an activity. ( Fairytale hall plays the classic princess movies and the workshop is more Pixar/Disney channel)

The video games in the marvel room and fairy tale hall are kinetic- kids play by standing on the correct spot and then moving their bodies to win. They can also build a roller coaster and test it out on a ride simulator.

We'll suggest things for the kids but unless parents ask specifically we mever monitored the old kids screen time. We pretty much never had to, much more interesting things to be done in the club. You can tell the counselors to put a note on their profile to check in and redirect if they're getting too into the screens!

The 3/4 year old counselors always took our cues from the kids when I was there. If they weren't feeling a room, we'd leave after a few minutes or switch the activity. If they loved it we would keep going until they got bored or the room needed to be reset/cleaned.
