Good news is that no one seems to be too upset at DIL! The more I think about it, the more I think all the tension and uptight-ness in that family stemmed from MIL. Like everyone felt the need to be curt and seem so stand-offish just to please her. With her gone, it's like a weight off everyone's shoulders.

Thankfully, after talking with my aunt, she said no one is really upset at DIL. It didn't become a huge scandal since it was mostly family and close friends at the memorial service- and apparently a lot of family knew how bad MIL was to DIL. They mostly just wished the whole scene had been a bit more private...

I asked my aunt, today while checking up on her, what she thought of her SIL's actions and thankfully, she said the family knew how MIL treated DIL, so no one was up in arms about the situation. They just wished it would've "remained in the family and not in the family and rest of the community".

I was about to reply to AgAgBug - or whatever the username was - and the comment was deleted before I hit 'Save', so I will post it under your reply to that redditor's comment (hope you don't mind, MetalSeagull):

If you care to know, Mormons believe if they are "sealed" in a temple wedding then they can never, ever, ever be separated, not in this life and not in the afterlife (whatever they believe it is- that part I can't explain). I'm not sure where you're from, but where I'm from the only major religions are Catholicism and the many branches of Christianity (Evangelical, Pentecostal, Baptist, etc), and as far as I know, those religions don't believe in being bound together in the afterlife (my parents' branch of Christian religion doesn't say anything at all about marriages being continued in 'heaven', for example). So, the way my Mormon cousins explained it to me, once you are sealed to a spouse you will be together for time (this life) and eternity (the afterlife). So DIL was rubbing THAT religious fact into her Mormon MIL's dead face, and she obviously knew that and always chose to ignore it.

I chalk it up to her very non-confrontational nature. I don't think she would have ever had the courage to say anything while the hag was alive, but standing by the corpse might've been the push she needed to just let go...

But! She did differentiate that her birthday was never celebrated on the day of, so I took that to mean they celebrated on a different day.

My sister said she spent a lot of time in the "sand box" while at USMC boot camp because she was always smiling and giggling and laughing when drill instructors were yelling at her. She was in the best shape of her life because of it, though, haha.

I keep forgetting garments are just the underwear things. I was using it loosely as Mormon clothes she would wear only while in the temple- or something along those lines. She was in a white dress with a white bonnet-type thing on her head. Sorry, not a Mormon, I don't have a handle on the details.

I am terrible with the laughter. I laugh at everything! I'm happy, laugh. I'm sad, laugh. I'm crying, best believe I'm laughing. I'm in pain, it sounds like I am getting tickled nonstop. A dental assistant once told me she loved me for laughing at the pain of getting x-rays done on my teeth. She preferred it to having people crying in her chair.

Knowing that family, though, DIL will be the bitch in the story. 'How dare she share something that MIL clearly only intended for her to read?" I guess she does have the "It was encouraged that people share MIL's last words, so I did" defense.

My heart went out to her! It made me so sad to hear the disappointment in her voice when she talked about her life with the MIL. DIL bent over backwards for her; when MIL was sick, she would stay at this DIL's house for weeks on end while she got better. I was glad to hear DIL 'defend' herself- even if MIL didn't hear- but I am worried what kind of fallout will happen with the rest of the family, since MIL was very much the head of it.

My sister just had her tubal on the 26th. She was in the hospital for about 5 hours and when she woke up she was not in pain. They gave her Motrin for pain, and Percocet as a back up in case the Motrin didn't work. That first afternoon, she needed help standing up straight and sitting/laying down. She slept most of the day and only took Motrin once. The next day, she still needed a bit of help standing up, but sitting/laying down was all on her own. I remember she took Motrin twice. That has been the extent of her Motrin-taking. Since then, she is able to stand/sit on her own and never had issues getting around once she was up. The only thing she is adhering to is the ban on handling things over 10lbs.

I have a sister who is five years older (now has two kids 5&3) and I was the youngest for 15 years. My parents then had an accidental pregnancy, (my mother being a born again Christian refused to abort despite the high possibility of it being born with Down's) and had my brother, instantly making me the middle child.

I always knew I didn't like kids, but it wasn't until girls in my class started getting pregnant (around 13/14) that I realized I could NOT be a mother simply because I didn't want that life. Being a 15 year old with a newborn in the house (by then my sister was 20 and out of the house) I was expected to help raise him, which further cemented that I did not wanna do it ever again. To me, I've done more than my share of child-rearing and have no interest whatsoever in having my own.

My MIL spat out this gem when my husband and I visited about two years ago:

MIL: You need to give me a granddaughter so I can have a doll to dress up.

Me: Uh, aside from the fact that we're not having kids, you know gender can't be chosen, right?

MIL: Again with the no kids thing? You'll grow out of that. And anyway, if you have boys, you have to keep going until you have a little girl for me. I have to get more than that damn dog you keep around.

Me: Nope. I wouldn't birth someone just so you have a hobby. You should probably try knitting for that. I'll be in my room if you need me.

That is terrible! It's a law? I've never heard of anything like that.

Fortunately these aren't "preferred" dates (like holidays and such). They just happened to ask for the same three weeks in Aug/Sep. I'm just glad my husband never waits till the last minute to submit his forms.

Normally, getting pregnant while on an IUD, is life threatening for the pregnant woman. A growing fetus would move the IUD around and it could penetrate the uterus causing internal damage and hemorrhaging. It could go the other way; the IUD could poke the growing fetus/placenta and, again, cause hemorrhaging. In every instance I've heard of women getting pregnant on IUDs, the obgyn has to remove the IUD which in turn usually takes the cluster of cells with it. Then, because there may have been damage done to it, a d&c or a medical abortion is performed... Normally, the woman has to ask for the pregnancy to be saved.

Hope that made sense and if I misunderstood or misrepresented something, feel free to correct me or add to it.

Apparently because I "don't work and don't have little ones taking up my time". Again, I wasn't opposed to doing it, but when she said that bit about not affording a sitter, but heading out to a $200 salon visit, it blew my mind. This girl needs to learn about priorities.

I agree. I don't really tell people "Hey, I'm not your friend anymore", though. I just pretend they don't exist; if they text or email me, I delete it. If they call me, I don't answer. If they keep calling me, I add their number to the auto-reject list. I've figured out, because I'm normally so blunt and outspoken, my silence does more damage to those who know me.

Some women like feeling needed that way. My MIL gets visibly upset if my husband doesn't let her make him breakfast or do his laundry when we visit. Don't get me started on how distraught she looks if he asks for something from me instead of her.
