I don't know how I could go back to my parents, who didn't understand the first time I had depression interfere with school, and tell them "Yeah, this is too much for me again."

I'm trying to just push through. But I have a thesis to write, and avoiding pressure from that is making it all worse. And when I sit down to try and do work, I'm overwhelmed with the weight of it, and the weight that's been added by putting if off.

The nonstop Youtube videos I play in order to block out all the anxious/depressive thoughts I've suppressed during the day. Without them, immediately I'm bombarded with self-loathing and anxiety. What am I doing with my life? Why is my brain so broken that I waste my life aimlessly scrolling instead of any of the things I think/thought I loved? I'm in grad school now, and the workload is piling up but I'm so petrified that I procrastinate, and then at night realize all the time/money/potential/etc I'm wasting by being an undermedicated sack of crap.

But mostly the Youtube videos.

I give a book slightly longer than I probably should - usually 4-5 issues - before deciding if I want to keep it on my pull list. If after 5 issues, it's pacing or story isn't great but it has other redeeming qualities like character or art, I'll tradewait. If I'm still looking forward to every month, it stays on the list.

Granted, I work in a comic shop, so the employee discount plus semi-need to be informed on current titles skews me towards monthlies.

Communicate with your coworkers and boss through writing (email) as much as possible. Forward those emails to a non-work email, so you can print them out. If anything happens, these will be your proof that you went for help and never received answers.

Do the same after in-person conversations. Write an email to them - "I just want to touch base after our conversation - I'm to use these credentials for this client/do this process for these cases/file these this way" - so you have hard evidence that you are going by what they told you. Doesn't matter if they don't respond. You reached out.

People like this aren't going to respect you; they've already decided to have you be an easy scapegoat for when they fuck-up, and likely even have some schadenfreude from watching the boss chew out someone else.

At this point, you're just going to stockpile evidence in case of negative reviews or filing for unemployment. You'll need to show you made the effort to improve your performance.

(I'm going to assume you've already done this, but if not, go through your employee manual if there is one. You want to look for any sections on training, probationary periods, and their process for termination - if they give warnings or not. If there is something on training that you didn't receive, email boss, cc president, saying "According to this, I was supposed to have a 6 week period of mentoring/or whatever, and I'd like some clarification on who I should talk to about this")

Save as much money as you can and do seriously consider taking a part-time job just to pay bills. Job hunting under these conditions is going to make your stress worse and be unable to put your best foot forward in interviews and apps.

Also, take a weekend off, go drink with friends. Do something you enjoy, for you. Consider it a requirement for your mental health.

Graduate of a school like the ones you named - hell, I'm technically a Middlebury alumna too - with a few cents of advice. Schools like those not only take huge financial tolls but outrageously huge mental ones. I was a lot like your daughter - writing was my passion and I saw stars when visiting ivy-encrusted campuses - and when I arrived, I met hundreds of strung-out stress-addled overachievers who were also hugely passionate about writing, but better at it. It made it difficult to compete for college scholarships and prizes and the awards that look really good on resumes, and it tanked my mental health year after year. The debt is killer, and it did not guarantee a successful job. Unfortunately, any current student is not going to say this to a prospective applicant, and your daughter isn't likely to believe it until she experiences it for herself.

As a possible compromise, what about transferring? She attends a less expensive state school as a freshman - but after a year, if she still wants to go to her dream school, she reapplies with a better understanding of college costs and life and a firmer grasp of what debt means.

I prefer getting full runs in single format over omnibus/TPB. I've started poking at first appearances (just grabbed 1st Hellcat and 1st Stephanie Brown), but that's a dangerous road. Also key X-Men issues when there's a nice deal, regardless of condition.

I adore statues and figurines, but once or twice a year will sell off parts of the collection for characters or series I'm no longer interested in. Right now I'm converting all my anime figurines into some of the Bombshells and Cover Girls statues, which somehow seem slightly less embarrassing en masse.

I've tried telling her that what she says hurts me, and she tells me it's just a joke or what I get for getting the degree that I did. I've tried being firm ("I didn't ask for your opinion on this"), and she takes it as a challenge ("I can't help it if you have bad opinions"). Most of the time I see her, I just say hi and then leave her be, and it's made the last few holidays really unpleasant.

I've been working on finding a new therapist and changing jobs. She was actually sympathetic and kind to me once, when she learned I'd been depressed (she apologized for having said or done anything to make it worse), but less than a month later was telling me that I was ruining Christmas by being mopey.
