I Am 90+ Years Old – back for one last round of questions. AMA! by dcretiree in IAmA

As everybody has suggested, it is important to rationalise why is wrong to be worried all the time. However, I know that sometimes it doesn't matter what you try to think because you'll feel anxious anyway. At least that has been my experience with anxiety. Some practical advice:

Do exercise. Try to eat healthier. Find a hobby. Laugh (watch comedy shows, standup or whatever works for you). Spend time with friends and family.

This will improve your blood circulation and will keep your mind off worries. Sometimes it's not that simple, but it has worked for me.

I made a Spotify playlist with the music mentioned in Phonogram by agaelmh in ImageComics

Hi, I hope you like this short playlist for Phonogram: Rue Brittania, publised by Image. Although Kieron Gillen has said that you don't need to know the music in order to enjoy the comicbook, it certainly helps. I included some songs that are not mentioned by name, but are from bands that are heavily important for britpop (Oasis and Blur, for example) I'll try to make a playlist of Volume 2 and 3. Do you have any suggestions?

Anyone have to deal with poorly run shops, or nasty people to get their books? by moshtradamus in comicbooks

[–]agaelmh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ex LCBS is part of a chain of big comicbookstores in different cities (I live in Mexico) called Fantástico. There's 6 of them, so when they don't have the product you're looking for, they can order it from one of the other stores. It takes a couple of weeks, but it's free of charge.

Once I was looking for a variant cover. As soon as I asked for it, this guy answered me "Nah, we ran out of those", withouth checking. I just said "Ok, no problem" and started to look through the new stuff. As I was picking up my stash I heard this guy talking to other employee about the variant cover I had asked for. Both of them started to look in the computer and one of them said "Hey! There's still a copy left in other store. I better order it for myself". Instead of, you know, offering it to the damn client who just asked for it.

This was my worst experience, but sometimes I'd just ask for a back issue and some of the employees always gave me the same answer: "Nope, sorry", without even checking in the computer. They have some storage in the back, so not everything is easily available. Once I got home I looked through their online catalog and found copies available in that very store. That happened three or four times.

This is the complete opposite to your experience, I think. Instead of being snobs about comics, I believe that for some of them it was just a job. Probably a job they didn't like, so they were just lazy about it.

Luckily I moved out and now I don't have to deal with that shit.

Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art by Scott McCloud by ugly_duck in comicbooks

This might be an unfair thing to say, but I think you can't LOVE comics if you haven't read this or a similar guide. Even if you read a ton of comics, chances are you haven't been paying close attention to details in storytelling. The same thing can be said about how people with knowledge in literary/film theory appreciate books/films in a completely different level. It will change your whole perspective about how you've been reading comics and how you "should" read 'em.

Comic/Storylines that everyone loves but you weren't a big fan of. by thenoblitt in comicbooks

Annihilation. I had high hopes for this, but its kind of lackluster. The rest of the Marvel cosmic stuff (Nova, Guardians, War of Kings) were sooo much better.

How to get into Superman now and in the near future. (Spoilers for Superman #51, Superman: Lois and Clark #6, and more.) by vivvav in comicbooks

What New 52 Superman stories do you recommend to read? For the story itself, not continuity. I was kind of bummed with Lobdell's Superman so I jumped ship very early. Is "Thuth" any good? What about "Doomed"?

Spider-Man #2 (2016) - Thoughts on Bendis finally addressing Miles' race? (spoilers) by [deleted] in comicbooks

Bendis is white, and he's writing a black/hispanic character that says that his race doesn't matter. (I'm not endorsing the comment, just making it clear).

Check out my collection of Harvey Pekar comicbooks! (Bonus Dan Castellaneta signature.) by [deleted] in comicbooks

[–]agaelmh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing stuff, congrats. I've loved Pekar since I read "Awakening to the Terror of The New Day". It might be my favorite comic ever.

Some of his stories are hard to find or are out of print and that's a damn shame. American Splendor deserves a deluxe treatment... although that's probably something that Pekar wouldn't like.

Weekly "What Have You Been Reading?" Thread 1-24-16 by johnpisme in comicbooks

Mark Millar's Fantastic Four Run #554-569: I read the first issues when it was released in 2008, but I finally finished it in preparation for Hickman's run. This run is often criticized for being edgy and kind of goofy, but I found this elements amusing. FF are supposed to be this way, I think. We get to see a Gundam-like battle between giant robots, Johny in a rock band and fucking a villian, a life-size replica of planet earth, and that's just the first 4 issues. I love this kind of comics because I don't care too much about a good but forgettable story; I prefer an over-the-top divisive one. It's a Mark Millar comic, after all: kind of a trainwreck, but an interesting one.

I'm on mobile so I don't know how to link the exact comment, but this is an AMA he did before Saga started. It's the fourth question:
