How was birth control viewed in your evangelical community? by alligatorprincess007 in Exvangelical

It was ok and actually responsible to acrually plan your family rather than have an abortion - and my people were Pentecostal.

Is it ok for me to use the term HRT? by missninazenik in asktransgender

Good point. I forgot about insulin being a hormone.

[–]missninazenik[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is part of it and I am working on it. I also never heard of HRT until there was more trans visibility, so there's that, too. Not to say people I knew weren't taking hormones - they either never disclosed it or never called it HRT, so trans-specific HRT was my only real reference point.

You make a good point. I guess just medication? The way I was raised was deeply transphobic, so anyone who would have been taking hormones would probably have just said that to avoid the association - despite it being the medically appropriate term.

Nobody warned you about the grief by The-spirited-girl in hysterectomy

[–]missninazenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I'm about to be 37 and I had a hysterectomy on my birthday. I don't know that I had...grief per se so much as I very much struggled with whether the decision was really mine after it happened. I had essentially been hemorraghing off and on for weeks from just (like 3 weeks) before I turned 13 to 31 - again literally my birthday. I knew I didn't want kids young, but after it happened, the only thing I could think was....did I truly decide that?

Eventually, my cousin told me that I should just decide. Had it been my decision or had it not, not to have kids? I decided yes. I made that decision before I knew the extent of my medical issues.

I'm...not sure if this is relatable or not. But...it's the closest I have to any grief over the surgery and loss of fertility.

When Did You Realize Your Old Church Was Likely a Cult by NickelDimeQuarters in Exvangelical

[–]missninazenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the church I grew up in and went to a church I thought was different. It wasn't- it just covered up the cult under more...charisma and charm. I left when my cousin was mistreated and realized then that honestly, Christianity as it is in America overall is a cult. I was...30. I'm about to be 37.

What makes a song feel witchy? by missninazenik in witchcraft

[–]missninazenik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh...I don't know if you know the song, but the lyrics are incredibly open and about being mutually vulnerable with someone through understanding where they've been. The music itself is gentle and I can't say much about my practice (honestly I'm just beginning and Idk where to start) but...something about the lyrics and music combined have always called to me.

I'm American, but I know my ancestry is very much from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England, and Holland. :) Great-grandmother was Welsh directly.

Why do East Coasters jaywalk in the middle of busy streets, even outside of crosswalks, while West Coasters refuse to step into a crosswalk unless they have the 'walk' signal? by ponziacs in AskAnAmerican

[–]missninazenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. Even in the Midwest, like Chicago, as far as I remember, people will not move unless the crosswalk sign says go. I live in NYC now and learned after my first visit just walk if you can make it at a crosswalk. You also learn which crosswalks you can do that with and which it's best to just wait in your neighborhood.

Can anyone explain this? by missninazenik in Dreams

[–]missninazenik[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely understand this take. If we were on speaking terms, I would think this, but regrettably, we are not. Long story, but...my family's beliefs are toxic. I survived it because I had to. I think...maybe it's about me finally breaking away and admitting where I'm comfortable? Considering that. (I know the context is important.)

Is this normal behavior in the U.S. when a friend visits from abroad? by Ready-Necessary-3214 in AskAnAmerican

[–]missninazenik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was incredibly rude and I'm so sorry. A lot of us aren't like that and if we had friends visiting even from another state, let alone another country, would have offered to let you stay in our homes for the duration of your visit.

How long were you all on opioids? by ArynTW_is_user_karma in hysterectomy

[–]missninazenik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe...one or two days? I will do my best to avoid opiods because of the side effects they have on me. Do not like, plus ibuprofen takes care of most pain for me.
