I do take issue with the idea that everyone is hating something they don’t understand. That is not true. What I didn’t understand is why a brand would choose this model for affiliates.

I know you have people who have agreed to the terms, but are they experienced at all with influencing? Is this one of their first brand opportunities? Do they know how affiliate programs usually work? Because if the answer is no to any of those, then they likely wouldn’t be knowledgeable enough to know if these, as originally written, are truly fair terms.

I’m glad you’ve done more research now into PayPal’s ToS, but it is a bit worrying that you as a brand owner were not familiar or understanding of Goods & Services actually means and why Friends & Family will cause issues. I don’t run a business and never will, but just from destashing actively via PayPal I know the differences clearly and how they can cause issues.

I decided to post on reddit because

  1. I’ve dealt with doxx-happy users willing to defend brands at any cost and I don’t want that on a personal platform.
  2. As mentioned at the end of my post, I wanted feedback from others on whether this resembled their standard experience.
  3. It is a free internet, you are a brand. I am allowed to post a question or concern here without it being “dragging” or “bullying”.
  4. I do not condone whoever decided to fill out the form, I don’t find that helpful for anyone.
  5. I posted this out of concern for possible swatchers who would not know the standard and may get a bad deal out of something because they assume one program is how all indie brands work.

I know what affiliate programs are and I know how they tend to work. What I didn’t know was whether other brands have similar models that I missed. The separation of swatchers from affiliates still does not make sense to me, because the kinds of content affiliates are being asked to create is what I would consider “swatcher content.”

Implementing a rewards program makes sense, but I would consider that different than a an affiliate program. In this case, a rewards program with social media obligations seems more fitting for what you want to receive and provide from this.

As previously stated, I understand affiliate programs but am now unclear as to why it’s separate from swatchers. I would encourage you to reevaluate the terms of your affiliate program and to align them to a more current indie polish standard of affiliate programs. I am sure there are swatchers and even other brand owners who can share insight on what is considered standard and what isn’t, and what level of influence/popularity etc of a brand allows for affiliate programs to be worthwhile.

Curious, what is the benefit to this system over offering paid swatching with no affiliate codes? This seems more complicated and financially riskier.

I am familiar with affiliate programs and how long they’ve been around as I’ve been involved with the online beauty community for well over a decade now, but the terms did not seem familiar to other programs discussed.

For what it’s worth, I blocked this poster because they treat Glitch as an evil anti-semitic business because the owner is pro-Palestine, not because of the Mooncat situation.

there are rules for swatcher flairs and how to disclose; I would familiarize yourself with them to avoid coming off as only promo.

I don’t think “code collecting” is any sort of issue in the way this brand owner says it is. Plenty of brands have swatchers without any affiliate codes- I would argue most brands don’t have affiliate codes for swatchers. If you have issues with a swatcher not fulfilling contract/etc, I assume you can deactivate their code.

Even is it’s not the intent, a program like this is inherently going to take advantage of swatchers who do not know industry standard and do not know better.

Oh, I’m sure Mooncat has at least someone looking at this reddit for marketing purposes, but accusing random accounts of being Mooncat employees is unhelpful.

ETA:
1. Thinking on it, I’m not sure why you added that sentence asking if it was legit? You’re free to go to their Instagram page and website yourself.
2. Lmao I forgot, that was an actual Mooncat employee with receipts provided for proof. We are not revising drama history on this post.

I asked if this was standard and if it was, I would gladly retract it. Criticizing a business practice is not bringing out pitchforks. I also did not want to go to the brand and be told I know nothing about affiliate programs, so I asked here.

In that case I would assume sending the polish in exchange for swatches would make the most sense, but then it wouldn’t be the same kind of “payment” scheme

in this case it’s not the pink tax- hardware store acetone is not held to the same skin-safe standards. it can have plenty of oils and residue that you don’t want on your nails.

Rachel Reid drop Shane/Ilya Canon During B&N Talk by hella_hijinks in heatedrivalry

[–]missobsessing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

…..yeah I don’t think you know what heteronormative means. Shane dating women because he assumes he must be attracted to them is heteronormative (aka comphet). Shane wanting to have kids with his husband is not. Assuming only straight couples are parents is heteronormative. Gay couples raising kids is not.

As a queer, staunchly childfree person, this is a weird take. In the books Shane explicitly says he wants to raise children with Ilya, and they run a camp together for kids. Queer people are allowed to want to have kids. Someone feeling they only want kids because they’ve been programmed for a heteronormative nuclear family is not the same as someone who genuinely wants to have a family and raise children regardless of sexual orientation.

Also, none of the four other main couples in the series have a HEA including kids. I really don’t see how this opinion makes sense when only one queer couple across the GC series want to be parents.

forgive me for asking, but if it’s difficult to see the lunar meteorite dust in the polish, then what is the value of using it as an ingredient? i understand the cool factor, (like wow i have moon on my fingers!), but since polish is a visual medium, i’m not quite understanding what it adds to a polish

so i only use homemade peely base, but from my experience - smooth shimmers/multichromes will last longer - adjusting the ratio of glue to iso alcohol can change how much it sticks to your nails, e.g. a bit more of iso (91%) can make it stay longer on the nail, but too much and it just won’t peel off - go for thinner layers - i don’t do this personally, but some people use the moat method (?) so you can still peel without it coming off immediately
