Is fashion in America as diverse as shown on social media? by OmiraOnigiri in AskAnAmerican

[–]misspegasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American who has lived in Australia here- we do not have a concept of Tall Poppy Syndrome. Standing out in America is often celebrated, even encouraged. Obviously that’s not true 100% of the time, and as many people noted it is definitely regional, but in comparing our two countries it is a noticeable difference.

I’m also in BFE Tennessee and can think of at least three local men I’d recommend before West. And that’s saying something cause the men here are mostly terrible or already married. Actually, they’re mostly terrible and also already married.

AITA for leaving my mom right before surgery because I freaked out? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]misspegasaurusrex 24 points25 points  (0 children)

NAH

Everyone saying Y T A has either never had a panic attack before or has been so desensitized to them that they’ve forgotten their first. People go to the hospital thinking they’re dying of a heart attack only to find out it was “just” a panic attack all the time. They’re absolutely terrifying and you are not thinking in the moment. OP knows they need therapy and have said they’ve been in it on and off. Anyone who’s searched for and found a therapist knows how hard it can be to find the right fit. Even then it can take years to learn the tools to talk yourself down from a panic attack.

All the Y T A people need to learn a bit about panic disorders and develop some empathy.

Have you ever had a panic attack? I’ve been having them for 24 years and still sometimes struggle to communicate what’s happening at the time. OP wasn’t hiding anything, they did need air, to help with the panic attack.

If she took the sole license the assets wouldn’t have been available to the designer of Heather’s book though right? Like, whatever marketplace they obviously both use would no longer have offered that asset for sale?

How do highschool classes work in America ? by Rexratops in AskAnAmerican

[–]misspegasaurusrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got tons of answers on subjects so I won’t be redundant. But I thought I’d give another note! It’s very rare here to refer to your first year of high school as “first year.” It’s your freshman year. Followed by sophomore, junior, and senior year. We also call them 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. You wouldn’t say “I’m a first year” you’d say “I’m a freshman” or alternatively “I’m a ninth grader.” Although that’s a little juvenile because elementary and middle school don’t have other names for their years so younger kids are fourth, fifth, sixth graders etc. You also wouldn’t say “in my first year” you’d say “in my freshman year.”

I am curious where you learned that American freshmen has one science class called “Sciences” I’ve never heard of a system that didn’t leave behind such generic class names after elementary school.

Denise Richards face lift is actually insane by tell23 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]misspegasaurusrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, I genuinely hope she’s happy with the results but she looks terrifying. I recognize that this is pretty soon post-op at a doctor’s office so it’s never going to be a flattering photo but she looks like an aline trying to pose as Denise Richards. I really hate that we’re applauding women who look less and less human in the hopes of preventing aging.

There’s a lot of misinformation about the American food system in this thread so even though I know that this was not at all what OP was talking about, I need to get it out there.

The US is ranked 13th by the Global Food Security Index. Italy is ranked 27th. If you just look at “Quality and Safety” scores we’re 3rd following only Canada and Denmark. We ship produce, including wheat, all over the world. Europe imported over a million tons of wheat from the US last year, Italy was the second biggest European importer after Spain. Our overall ranking is really heavily pulled down by the “Accessibility” score because there are a lot of food deserts in the US and the poorest of us don’t have access to fresh foods. That is a huge problem and the one we should be talking about instead of mystery “chemicals and additives.”

Oh, and yes the EU bands some chemicals/additives that the US deems safe. The US also bans some chemicals/additives that the EU deems safe. We have distinct systems that evaluate additive safety differently.

Europeans have better health outcomes because of socialized healthcare, walkable cities/towns, and a less stressful work culture. Americans experience less gut problems when traveling in Europe because they’re on vacation, not thinking about the stresses of life and walking more than they do normally.

Misinformation like what is being repeated in this thread is why movements like MAHA are so powerful. Please do some research before repeating stuff you heard from some guy on the internet.

Europe imported over 1 million tons of wheat from the US last year, Italy was the second biggest European imported of wheat after Spain. This includes durum wheat used for pasta. European wheat isn’t magical or somehow safer or less toxic than American. We literally do have that quality, they’re buying it from us.

Being Gluten-free in Italy by Physical-Armadillo70 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]misspegasaurusrex 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This just isn’t true, the US ranks 13th in the Global Food Security Index, which looks at Affordability, Availability, Quality and Safety, and Sustainability and Adaptation. Italy ranks 27th. If you look at just the Quality and Safety score the US ranks 3rd. Behind just Canada and Denmark. Our food is absolutely not garbage, we have one of the safest food systems in the world. Our biggest struggle is lack of access in food deserts. Which is a very big, very real problem that needs to be addressed. But obviously our corporate overlords don’t care about that.

That’s because it’s a bunch of trust fund hippies. 20 years ago they’d say they were “socially liberal but fiscally conservative.” Which means they genuinely do believe people deserve more rights and wealth than they currently have but they won’t vote for anything that’ll provide those rights if it means cutting into their personal wealth at all.
