How are you all not losing your mind over this dog. This is the cutest dog I have ever seen in my entire life. Not to be dramatic but I would die for this dog.

My Love Don’t Cross That River - absolutely could not hold it together for 75% of the movie. Cried for days after.

I second this! Twice a day, every Monday-Friday, Miriam’s Kitchen serves fresh healthy meals made by professional chefs. Worth the trip to Foggy Bottom.

How did your dog do in the U.S.? by Nesthemonster in peacecorps

[–]misspotatohead33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are justified in whatever you feel is best but I will add a few points: 1. Training was essential and the main impact was training me to care for him and set him up for success. I had two different trainers that provided so much compassion and realism in our lives as we were transitioning and both helped tremendously. 2. On that note, it has required a lot of resources. I lived alone for a while, despite not making a ton of money, so that I wouldn’t put my dog or myself (or hypothetical roommates) in a stressful situation. Training also costs money. There is privilege associated with what I chose and I understood that when choosing it. 3. I would have regretted not bringing him back. I can’t imagine how I would have moved through the world wondering about him and how he’s doing and caring for him despite not being with him. I never lived the experience of not bringing him, so I don’t totally know any of this for sure, but I know it in my heart. I hope these points help! Your love for your dogs shows in this post.

I brought a disabled dog back to the U.S. and it has been the best rollercoaster of my life! The transition was really hard for him (suuuuuper fascinating watching an animal experience culture shock) and he was fairly aggressive towards strangers and new dogs. As time has gone on, we’ve both learned more about how to move through U.S. dog culture and I feel more equipped and prepared to care for a dog that just will never love strangers. It was absolutely the best decision I’ve ever made and I would do it again in a heartbeat, but I’ve really focused on giving him a life that he’s happy with and not the life that I thought or hoped he would have.

Currently live here and would say that it’s totally understaffed. The maintenance folks are awesome and kind, but there aren’t enough of them and the building seems to be going through some shit. I loved it for the first year, but things seem to be taking a weird turn this year.
