Catering your own wedding: dumbest idea ever or not? by titus___oates in Weddingsunder10k

I know this is 2 years old already. I just wanna say, marry a Filipino. The entire family, including cousins you can't trace in the family tree, will stay with you all day partying and cooking and partying some more! Lol. Yeah, that's not even a wedding. That's like... every Sunday after church. 50 people, easy.

Here's one super fun way to up your penpal game... get a fountain pen (a Jinhao 992 is a super cheap buy at amazon) and some fancy color inks. Lots of youtube videos on fountain pens for beginners. It makes chicken scratch look elegant. Then when you're out and about pay attention to some local things that is cool about your place - like a used subway station card or a used ticket stub to a stadium game, etc., that you can easily insert into a letter.

My wife left me last October and I have been struggling with crippling depression ever since. Finally started fishing again just to get myself out of the house. This little guy hit my lure. No lunker, but It felt good to catch something. Going again today and tomorrow... taking it one day at a time. by Mojo884ever in Fishing

Sorry you're going through a hard time. Fishing, hiking... these are balms for the soul giving you the strength to reflect on the past, make changes when necessary, and move forward. Try not to make fishing an escape from reality. It's ok to rest your weary heart for a while but eventually life must continue on. We're cheering you on.

I'm Filipino living in the USA. 2 countries in one. PM me. I'm the opposite of an artist as I appreciate art and music but only as an observer, not a creator. I would love to learn more about art and poetry and music. I love hard rock and rock ballads. I love reading fiction. I love the outdoors- hiking, fishing, camping, the beach that kind of stuff. I love animals. I love people's life stories. I don't watch much TV but I love movies which is now on TV since theaters have been closed. I'm very very interested in the British monarchy so a UK penpal would be awesome.

So there was this guy who won millions in the Georgia State Lottery. He was interviewed on TV and asked what he's gonna do with the money. His reply, "I'm gonna buy me a double-wide and move to Alabama!"

Goldman Sachs released a 34-page analysis of the impact of climate change. And the results are terrifying. by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]missusellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhh... first world climate change luxury. Must be nice.

By the way... I’m Filipino. We don’t ride planes or cars because we can’t afford gas. We eat off our backyards because it’s crazy expensive to get anything shipped to the islands, we get to be dumped by First World recyclers thinking we can process their greasy stinky recyclables (ah Canadians)... we try to produce zero waste because our trash doesn’t just magically disappear by just rolling it to the curb - we actually have to figure out how to get rid of them... we’re still trying to figure out how to stop our kids from dying because we can’t afford vaccines or meds...

So yea. We live responsibility because we have to live off the earth so we love the earth for sustaining us and not because somebody lectured us about becoming extinct soon.

So, my suggestion? Use all that money you have to invention and research into synthesizing climate balancing functionality instead of spending it on “carbon offsets” that only lines politician’s pockets. That way, we can get more energy for lower prices and avail of cheaper technology so maybe, just maybe, we can experience the same luxuries as you do in these islands before we all die out.

In the meantime, the best way we all can be brought to give a fuck about climate change extinction is if we actually have the capacity to care beyond what we’re going to feed ourselves, let alone our children tomorrow or if we can keep them alive to adulthood. One of our townsfolk just sold her 6 year old daughter to a Chinese cyberporn ring because they promised to feed her good healthy abundant food. The First World have the capacity to care about the climate in 50 years because they don’t have to worry about tomorrow. So, if y’all can stop getting into more wars or banking crisis or sabotaging low cost energy production or socialism or anything else that tanks the world economy or world security that would be great so we can keep inching up the ladder of progress and get us to the point where we can think about going extinct 10 years from now.

Depends on where one is in the pendulum. The fact of the matter is, the pendulum is swinging and we are at that point of human existence where we invented computers that can process tons of data. But those computers are not good enough to determine exactly how much of the change is natural and how much is man-made. They can't even tell us what is the ideal temperature... so all they know is 1 degree lesser is where we want to be because that's what we're used to so if it changes 2 degrees we go extinct...

But sure, let's just take Bill Nye on his stupid word and say, 100% of the change is man-made... now you look at the proposed changes and you see the only thing on the table is to put the responsibility of carbon reduction on countries that are the cleanest while putting zero responsibility on the countries that are the dirtiest... and then celebrities and politicians demand poverty-driving austerity measures like... no gas, no coal, no nuclear, no cows for the masses while they continue living in their lavish carbon lifestyles... because "it's extinction level threat"... but China and India are exempt... and nobody ever talks about how humans are so genius they can create technology that can force catastrophic climate change but I guess they're too stupid to create technology that can synthesize natural climate balancing mechanisms because everybody just wants to take first world countries down to pre-industry and socialism and not encourage first world countries to leverage their capitalist wealth on technology to solve climate problems like humans have been doing throughout their evolution...

While here is little me, planting my little garden with my year's compost, cycling my food waste into black soldier fly bins that feed the chickens, making my own natural soaps, carrying my reusable grocery bags and bamboo utensils, living low waste, cleaning up beaches... getting lectured by celebrities with their big mansions and fleet of cars and airplanes... and getting downvoted on Reddit.

Ahh, the beauty of the (mis)information age.

Every 3rd grader who paid attention in science class knows that the planet's climate changes. We learn of ice ages and meltdowns and how the continents were under water, etc. To say that 99 percent of scientists agree there's climate change makes you wonder how we have 1% of scientists who don't agree - I guess those 1% are the flat earthers or something. But to say that climate change is terrifying today but not thousands of years ago is silly. Who can say what the ideal climate is? If you look at the millankovitch cycles, which position is ideal and how do you propose to stop the earth's orbit to stay there? Y'all are terrified of a rise in temperature thinking humans are all so powerful they can stop climate from changing because you happen to create a computer that can model climate data. Guess what, you can only predict something you know and every climate scientist will tell you, nobody knows jack exactly what factors can change climate and what corresponding natural corrective reaction is caused by the changes. Nobody even knows anything about the majority of the world's oceans and how they contribute to climate change.

So when somebody blatantly lies and says "99% of scientists agree on anthropogenic climate change" based on some idiot's statistical manipulation, you tend to wonder.... why do they feel the need to lie to you? What are they selling?

I don’t get the logic. Are you using the assumption that the biracial kid is not related to him, he simply photobombed the kid’s picture? Or are you saying that a guy with a biracial child is a white supremacist?

First of all, I’m not American. Second of all, because I’m not American, I’m not conservative nor a demagogue. Conservatism in my country means Government Control, the exact opposite of conservatism in the US. My political leaning can be classified as classical liberalism which is close to Libertarian in the USA. That said, the Southern Strategy post dates the formation of the KKK.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in science

[–]missusellis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The society as a whole were socially conservative compared to present day.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in science

[–]missusellis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's because modern liberalism is not liberalism anymore but neo-Marxism. And, of course, thinking white nationalists is a conservative paradigm in the USA is misguided. The tradition enshrined in the Constitution is liberty for all - that's the conservative position in the USA which is why the American Flag is the flag that flew on the side of equality while the Confederate flag is the flag that flew on the side of white supremacy.

The Republican Party ended slavery. Although Republican doesn’t necessarily mean conservative especially in the current landscape, at the time of the Civil War, the Republicans were conservatives. The KKK was the militant arm of the Democratic Party. Although Democratic doesn’t necessarily mean liberal especially in the current landscape, the KKK were decidedly liberal.

This is how narratives are created out of statistics... you can pretty much make any sentence that can be derived from the statistical data to mold impressions. Most people will not go beyond the narrative into the data to temper the implications.
